Rockstar confirms GTA Online characters can't be restored if lost
Is it due to being a console save system or is GTAO just so crappy you can't save your character from session to session?

As I understand it, the character loss was largely caused by people creating and saving a character and then if they tried to connect when the servers were down, it would show that they had no characters saved. So if they tried to create a new character in the same slot the previous one was in, that one got overwritten on the servers when they came back up. I think the latest patch for the game fixed this particular issue and at least GTA Online seems relatively stable now.

I really used to like Alexander's writing. Her general talent is undeniable. But it's unfortunate that every article she writes now seems to have become about how gaming is reinforcing all the bad tropes in society and apparently holding back our advancement as a people. For someone who claims to love gaming so much, she sure seems to hate it now.

She makes a number of good points sometimes, it's just a shame that she takes any disagreement as "arming our enemies" (see the dialogue she had with Shawn Elliott about sexism in the actual industry workplace side of gaming) and seems to think that social issues regarding games are black and white and that you're either wholly with one side or against it. I also stopped taking her quite as seriously when she not once but twice appeared on the Giant Bombcast completely hammered, made an ass of herself both times and then said everyone who complained about how it ruined the shows (and it did) were just sexists who hated that a woman was on.

I've no problem with people who want to talk about societal issues when it comes to games but she needs to do so without being such on a high horse.

30 grand and he'll own the rights and sell 1000s of copies for millions.

And anyone who is smart enough to get into this will know that and is OK with it. Saying you designed a ship for Star Citizen looks pretty good on a game industry resume too. It's not like the artists who get paid a yearly salary at a big developer that sells a game for millions get a cut of that.

This game was criminally underappreciated and was a pleasant surprise for me. I highly recommend it if you like Uncharted-like titles.

Seriously. Even worse, the dog in Ghosts is named Riley, same as my year old Burnese/Golden Retriever. They wouldn't dare...actually, they probably would. Once this game comes out, if no review mentions it, doesthedogdie.com will.

It amazes me that a company like Valve can squander their flagship title that made them into what they are today. I think their heads are clouded up with Steam.

I can't remember where I read it but apparently Valve makes more off DOTA 2 in like a month than they ever made off their other games. Much as I also want Half-Life 3, I think they know where their bread is buttered now. And this doesn't even count what they make from Steam.

Heh.

For starters, I'll eat my hat (though I don't normally wear a hat...) if that's an actual Valve employee. Secondly, even if it is, they seriously can't get live streaming working in Steam? Then how come a bunch of games (including poorly optimised ones like The Showdown Effect) have it built in and it works with no severe performance drop? The Steam client is slow and bloated, always has been. That's not a Windows problem, that's a Valve problem. Others can get live streaming working in-game just fine so once again, if Valve can't do it in Steam, that's a Valve problem and not a Windows problem.

I frankly welcome SteamOS as I think Windows needs competition on this front but honestly, I think Steam on Windows would be a lot better if they put the same amount of effort into that client that they seem to be putting into this OS. That and the fact that the reason Gabe hates Windows 8 isn't because it's "closed" (it is as open as Windows 7 aside from the Microsoft Store which is 100% optional), it's because it's competition. It's only a closed off walled garden if it isn't HIS closed off walled garden.

I think there are older Battlefield titles than this that are still online so it's probably just a glitch. EA always announces when stuff's going away and I think on their boxes, it says they have to provide 60 days notice.

Before, iOS was just ugly and dated and looked like the Windows 3.1 of mobile. Now it's all of those things with less defined buttons so it's even harder to use.

You're the first person I've seen quote in a long time, surprised he even bothers anymore.

Anyways Apple seems to be mired in complacency and stagnating. Cook has been good at keeping the gravy train going but not so good at actually introducing new concepts and products.

And that's only going to carry him so far. The iPhone 5S has a fingerprint scanner (which I give odds people will use for about a week before it annoys them), a spec bump and somehow, they managed to make iOS even uglier with v7. And with the iPhone 5C, Apple's officially joined the race to the bottom they thought themselves better than. Except they haven't really of course because despite the 5C being made of materials Apple took the piss out of others for using barely a year ago, it's still over $500 without a contract. Yet this phone's supposed to get Apple into emerging markets? Clueless. Android isn't the unstable, battery sucking mess it used to be and it's rapidly eclipsing iOS in terms of features and iteration speed. Windows Phone may not have many good apps but it's a fantastic mobile OS. Apple can only ride this fashion trend so far and given the "meh" response I largely saw the other day, I hope they have something big in the pipe. Actually I don't because I think Apple (and particularly, their obnoxious fan base) needs to be cut down several pegs.

There was an excellent version of RCR for the PC-Engine. Exactly like the NES version but with more colors and a CD audio soundtrack. Was great.

Is that so? I don't know how I missed that before! I'll have to go looking for that.

This particular title was announced as having a Kickstarter coming a while ago but it didn't launch until today. They were actually waiting until Canada became officially supported by Kickstarter which is just did. The developer also recently had to rebrand due to trademark issues. I imagine there have been other 8-bit brawlers that have attempted Kickstarters as well by now.

Nolan Bushnell's contributions to the beginning of video games are huge but seriously dude, Nintendo's having issues but they're a 100+ year old company that was profitable for it's entire life until a couple of years ago and who by the way, saved the console industry after the Atari-led crash. Meanwhile, after running Atari into the ground (though not alone by any means), Bushnell has a string of failed companies since, including a couple like Chuck E. Cheese which managed to bring themselves back to prosperity after his exit. His commentary on business is not perhaps the best gospel.

The guy who is the public face of this game is a regular on a forum I hang out on and he says this is doing well on Greenlight but every little bit helps. This is a game that definitely deserves to get through that broken system.

This is about the fourth time he's apologised. Maybe if he's keep his mouth shut and stop doubling down on the stupid, people would actually think he's sorry. That's the funny part, this keeps getting reignited not because other people keep bringing it up but because Krahulik keeps talking abotu it and sticking his foot further in his mouth. He needs to shut up.

Was really hoping for more story focused DLC like a lot of other titles have been doing lately. This pack and the last one basically only amount to challenge modes which isn't what Metro Last Light is about to me. I so hope that like Clash In the Clouds for BioShock Infinite, this is just a holdover while they work on the bigger stuff.

Naw, that's mobile titles. This is more like the pro wrestling of video games. It's getting notably worse every year and having to amp up the insanity to justify itself but people keep buying it because it's what they know.

I kind of liked the idea but between the lack of assets, the growing number of Kickstarter disappointments and just Kickstarter fatigue in general, it was a tough road. I grew up on the old Sierra games and love them to death but most of these Sierra designers haven't done much of note in recent years (with the exception of one of the SpaceVenture guys who mostly did work at a shovelware developer) and I think a lot of people are questioning if their era of design chops can hold up in today's industry. I would have liked to have seen this at least get a shot though.
