News Comments > Jane Jensen's Moebius Revealed
8. The Scarlet Furies Apr 23, 2012, 01:38 JediPunisher

It's almost worth pledging $250 to see The Scarlet Furies in concert at Jane Jensen's home.
Who are The Scarlet Furies, you ask? Well, Jane's husband Robert Holmes composes the music for her games, and Raleigh Smitten2 , her stunning daughter, sings. They front a local band called The Scarlet Furies. I never heard of them before yesterday, but now I'm a huge fan! Where is Simon Cowell when you need him? Raleigh is better than anyone on American Idol this season. They have a few videos on Youtube... http://youtu.be/UeyQgBiHArA -- http://youtu.be/DAvO1A7ElAY --http://youtu.be/2Lldd0ljt20 -- http://youtu.be/3GXIZCaxQ4w
And you can see more of Raleigh on the Moebius Kickstarter page; She hosts the intro video: http://kck.st/HejXwb

Right, because Brian Fargo appears to just be DYING to get in bed with a publisher. I'm going to have to disagree with you on that aspect.
It’s not that Fargo hates publishers, they are a necessary evil… it’s that they wouldn’t fund the projects he wanted to do.
Since Wasteland 2 is already funded, the publisher won’t get the chance to interfere with Brian’s vision for the game.
Besides, I doubt Brian Fargo wants to spend HALF of the pledges towards marketing, fulfillment, and product support. I’m sure you’ll agree, that money is better spent on game content.

I've been PC gaming since the '80s (Telengard, Ultima III, IV), but I must have missed Wasteland. Why is everyone so stoked on a modern take of this ancient game?
Why are we stoked? Here are two reasons…
Brian Fargo… the man responsible for many classic rpgs including The Bard’s Tale, Baldur’s Gate, Fallout and of course Wasteland.
Chris Avellone… the designer of one of the greatest crpgs of all time… Planescape: Torment.

BTW, I haven’t thought of Telenguard for decades… Wasn’t it similar to Temple of Apshi with random levels and musical puzzle chests?

The difference between all the other Kickstarter campaigns is Brian Fargo is a businessman and he knows how to stretch a dollar.
Yeah, and I’m guessing that to maximize odds for success, Fargo will put all $3M (minus fees and taxes) towards game development to the exclusion of all else, such as advertising, bonus items, etc. When the game nears completion, they can simply approach a publisher, such as Bethesda, and let them pick up the tab for playtesting, advertising, boxing, and distribution in exchange for a cut of retail sales.

I donated $250 to the project... That might not be the wisest investment, but I miss the old school tactical rpgs.
Besides, I could always place that signed collector's edition on eBay.

Hell Yes! I've been looking forward to this game for months. Boogie

For those who complain about the 10 hour length, grab some graph paper and play it in hardcore mode (no automap).

I’ve never been an Apple fan, but I’ve been needing a good PDF reader for a long time for my technical manuals, books and trade magazines… so I gave in and ordered the new iPad.
My netbook is slow & clunky and I’d really like to see more than half a page at a time. So, I bought a Kindle Fire, which is the perfect size, but its resolution of 1024x600 is far too low.
What I really need is a Kindle Fire with retina display. In the meantime an iPad 3 will have to do. Nice

@Prez: Who needs a keyboard when you have voice dictation?

I can not wait to play this game! I'm looking forward to it more than Diablo 3.
I was a big fan of those Dungeon Master/Eye of the Beholder games. Hopefully this game will be wildly successful and we'll see more dungeon crawls in the future.
I'll need to pick up a pad of graph paper, because I plan on playing in hardcore mode.

I can not wait for this game!
I'm looking forward to it almost as much as Diablo 3.

BTW, both Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder had real-time combat!

News Comments > New AMD/ATI Catalyst Reference Drivers
4. Re: New AMD/ATI Catalyst Reference Drivers Nov 1, 2011, 00:17 JediPunisher

These drivers have crossfire issues... when I boot Win7 to desktop, GPU1 is downclocked while GPU2 is running at full speed. When I first start Battlefield 3, both GPUs are at full speed, but after awhile, my frame rate take a nose dive and again GPU1 is downclocked while GPU2 is still at full speed.
So, it looks like I'll be rolling back to the 11.10 beta 2 drivers.

BTW, for those playing Rage, these drivers contain an older version of the opengl driver: atioglxx.dll
Cat 11.10 = 6.14.10.11161
Cat 11.10b2 = 6.14.10.11298 - I've had best luck with these.
Cat 11.10b3 = 6.14.10.11299

Sure, two iPhones were tied together for 3D filming, an iPad for editing, and a room full of Apple II's for the special effects.

... but John's view of the PC market, when he is one of the virtual pioneers of PC gaming, is disheartening.

Remember that Carmack's first successful PC game, Commander Keen, came about from his love of Nintendo and his desire to bring console games to the PC...
more specifically, he wanted to use his technical prowess to prove the PC was as powerful as a videogame console...

Well, he's done it again - My $3,000 i7-980x, 12GB, HD5850 xfire PC runs Rage just as well as my 6 year old XBox360... well, almost, other than the occasional framerate hitches. Wall

Should X-Com have stayed turn-based?

Only if your target audience was X-Com fans...
if not, then why the hell did you name it X-Com?

Great, a $50 credit to buy another used game... I mean, a new game that's been raided for goodies and rewrapped.

A very expensive mistake for Gamestop... but cheaper to bribe us than lose the inevitable class action lawsuit.

Been running these (albeit, the preview 11.8 drivers released with the 11.7's) for over a month, without any problems: installing, or running.

I've installed dozens of ATI drivers over the years, and I never had a problem until now. You are running the same 11.8 preview drivers I was, which seemed bug free, so you might want to skip these official 11.8's and avoid any headaches.

What's the problem? Just run the installer and it will upgrade your drivers, no reboot needed at all, works perfectly ...
You do know that you're supposed to uninstall the previous drivers first, don't you? While installing over previous drivers works, it will sometimes lead to problems (e.g. when the current drivers contain a file that is older than the one in the previous release).

In any case, the installer kept crashing... I ended up using the installer from the preview drivers... problem solved.

Driver hell... I'm still trying to get these damned drivers installed. Like always, I uninstalled all ATI software and rebooted before installing the new drivers... which crashed my PC with a black screen. The Install Manager freezes upon further attempts to either install or uninstall.

Previously, I was using the 11.8 Win7-64b preview build which might be at fault, since they were 50% larger than the current release; I'll try to reinstall these.

Word of warning... Make sure you have a current restore point before installing the Win7 version of these drivers. Unfortunately for me, all of my restore points have now vanished! Uhoh
