News Comments > New Epic IP Reveal Saturday
10. Re: New Epic IP Reveal Saturday Dec 6, 2011, 00:17 Tanto Edge
Ahh, I see Cliffy is finally going to just box copies of his penis and ship those.
It's about time. He's been pretty much doing it for years anyhow, I'm surprised they're going to unleash it as such now.
Don't know how fresh an IP that is... but whatever, it's Epic, right?
Maybe they can get Mark to put some shine on that.

Angry emo dev uses white whine. It's not very effective.
Intahnetz uses world class embarrassment. It's super effective.

I don't patch Bethesda games.
I'll expand them and enjoy the patches that have seen some proper playtesting.

I sincerely wish Bethesda all the best in maintaining three platforms worth of software.
I'd buy another copy of the game if I thought it would help

Maybe if PCs were as accessible in hardware, then we wouldn't have this issue.
Given a console is effectively a computer, just with a predetermined hardware/software spec.
Make a modular console and everybody would be happy.
Square one? No, square 1.1
We've been following the same fucking concept in terms of hardware model since the nineteen seventies when atari, coleco, intellivision and the rest were duking it out.
But fuck that, let's rewind a little further and watch as Apple, IBM, Xerox and a fuck load of other assholes all develop their own standards and bend the market over.

People need to realize that arguing over DRM is fucking idiotic.
Piracy never killed PC gaming. Accessibility is all it has ever been about.
There are more 360 torrents now than PC. PS3 is creeping and will eventually outdo PC altogether as well. Just a matter of how many people give a shit about the online service.
Games still work after all.

The whole conversation is moot until somebody addresses the real issue, and it's never been piracy, never been DRM, never been whether or not all consumers can afford the hardware to run it well.
It's always been about accessibility. (People tone back graphics, or upgrade hardware, because PC games are scalable. Always have been.)
With every little failure that PC suffered, up to and including the recent Rage debacle, the platform has been backed into a corner and kicked in the nuts.

Until the accessibility of the PC platform is properly addressed (online services is kind of a step in the right direction) nothing is going to evolve. Origin and Steam and the billion other services, are doing it 'right', but we as a consumer base cannot be expected to suffer multiple fucking spyware networks (I speak of Origin specifically) crammed into our hard drive.

What if these companies developed better solutions in accessibility?
Steam's driver auto updates are a great idea.. if they work properly.

I know hardware companies aren't going to start playing nice with each other. That would be ludicrous I suppose. However, there's nothing stopping a company like Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo from developing the console to accept multiple upgrade modules. What a concept. Like a PC, but not.
What if software was ubiquitous because developers or operating systems supported wrappers? Play your console title on the PC for a better experience, or play it on your special custom console..

Ugh, whatever.
Skyrim is great. Here's hoping the next one doesn't whittle even more. Strangely, I refuse to patch because then I'd have to run the Steam service in the background. Fuck achievements.

@Kitkoan Don't mind the captain.
Sometimes I swear Bluesnews pays him to troll.

What you're saying is true though. The iPad and other tablets, with Siri etc aren't anything special but just a mini-MS Surface linked to an online Dragon Naturally Speaking server..

Y'know something, if the iPad supported stuff like this:
Then maybe I would give a damn.

41. Re: I Am Alive PC Follow-up Nov 25, 2011, 14:49 Tanto Edge
Wtf kind of discussion is this?
The games not coming to PC right away and it will be a port when it does.
Not interested.

Piracy? It's a copyright thing, not a theft thing. It can't be theft unless someones missing it. If I took it and you don't have it, I stole it. If I have it and you have it, nothing's been stolen.
Can't have murder without a body, can't have theft without.. a theft.

Insofar as piracy, legality and morales.
I always try before I buy. Deus Ex proved that this works extremely well. I always buy what I play although yes, sometimes I'll just wait until it's on sale. Especially in cases where it would mean owning multiple copies of stuff.

For example, did you know you could 'pirate' Left 4 Dead for LAN play? It's true. Throw the systems into offline mode and they'll connect and play. Won't now, but two years ago, no problem.
Did Valve lose money when I did that? Did Gabe lose weight from starving while I and my cohorts LAN'ed using a single copy between three machines? No.
Nobody cared. Nobody lost sleep. Nobody was hurt.

Skyrim alone has been pir8d so hard Bethesda's should receive an award.
Still made record sales. Record sales that completely wiped anything EA or any other 'Major Label' had, off the ledger.

Piracy? Copyright? Patents? Intellectual Property?
How much does it cost to file a copyright? A patent? To sue to ensure security of your trademarks?
What's the point in this shit existing if it can only help those with the scads of resources it takes to employ the methods of enforcement.

Arguing about what piracy is, is pointless. Arguing that it's causing the death of anything PC related is retarded. Go look at a torrent board. It's covered in console titles.

Big business makes rules and excuses to do as they please and trounce the little guy where applicable.

Y'know something though? If anything, in recent years I've felt that OpenSource and free market community supported systems are falling and failing. There's even been talk of Linux biting ass.

Who gives a fuck if some second rate developer who managed to hit upon one concept isn't bringing their title to PC? I don't expect Uncharted on PC and this doesn't resemble anything I'd expect on PC.
A studio wants to prove their balls, let them. If they fuck it up, we'll see them back on PC before tanking completely and blaming piracy anyhow, so wtf does it matter?

This game looked like Uncharted on steroids.
This tool actually thinks it'd be an issue to sell this game on digital distro?
What an abject moron.

I trust Steam to provide me this service simply because it's obvious how and why Valve operate.
Forum activity should never mean result in the inability to use your own purchased software.
Regardless of the posting, regardless of the activity.

I've never used any online cheats and frankly don't see the point but I understand that if you're banned from VAC for cheating, you can still play on non-VAC servers or games without issue.

I can't remember the last EA game I bought, and frankly with every new release of titles, I'm finding less and less EA titles are catching my interest, save for a few scathing remarks.

EA. We're in your Ass.

13. Re: More on DOOM 3 Source Release Nov 17, 2011, 00:26 Tanto Edge
@SirKnight You are absolutely correct.
That's why.. Let me see if I understand this:
Carmack is going to write new code that effectively does what his old code does, just not in the way it did it when he originally shipped D3.
So in effect, he's writing new code for the masses so the company doesn't lose money on OOOOOLLLDD software that nobody would use to make a game today.

Okay, I can see how that makes sense coming from a company that released Rage and then instead of releasing a patch they released this statement: 'Wellp... Worked on our machines..'

[VG]Reagle wrote on Nov 16, 2011, 21:48:
God Carmack is cranking it to our buttholes daily. The day he quits yapping his trap is the day gaming gets better.

Oh yeah. Well... at least he's not Molyneaux
Seriously. He could be Molyneaux.
