Er, didn't G4 or something just have an "awful" awards where gamers (not editors) voted on the worst games? It was one of the big sites. Anyways, Shenmue was #2 on the shit list. This thing's gonna tank if it makes it to release.

Probably my favorite game of the year, I get giddy when I leave work in anticipation of playing it. I picked up the Euro version when it came out. It's just freaking awesome.
I think the "oooh" moment was when I had a machinegunner covering the front of a building with an MG34 while covered by a stone entrance. Got an interupt because of a Nazi bastid walking past a window on the 2nd floor. Turned the gun to full auto and watched the better part of 75 rounds rip through the window and an incredible animation followed. Glass fell, rounds bounced off metal surfaces, blood marks on the bad dude and the wall, paper and wood flying everywhere. Was just like controlling an old war movie.
This is like Jagged Alliance in WWII, woohoo
Edit: I forgot to add that I generally hate strategy games. I don't think I could imagine there being anyone who is a Call of Duty/etc. fan and not liking this.

A realism mod for BF1942? That's like taking the blood out of SOF2. What's the point?
On another note, why the hell did they leave the Garand out of the game yet put in something like the MP18? Bassackwards.
On another note, the expansion pack adds the Breda which was the Italian piece of the Garand. Same internals, just a different stock with a pistol grip and collapsable stock. Very cool and very collectable. Replacement parts were made by BMB and Beretta (BMB inferior to the Beretta). My Springfield Garand has a BMB bolt and a lot of Beretta replacements. First time I can think of that the Breda will be in a game.

Halo for the PC is anything but Vaporware at this point. It's officialy being done by Gearbox and adds Internet support.
BTW, does anyone know how long Halo is? I just rescued the captain and have stole the enemy drop ship.

GTA3 vs. Halo sales is moot. One system had more than a year more of sales. Comparing sales for a system with 30 million systems sold vs. one with 3 million sold is a huge difference.
I doubt that either GTAs have sold 10x more than Halo.
I bought an Xbox and a Gamecube within a week of each other at the end of November. 10 games for each. Halo is a fun game, and has a good wow factor. Not as fun as GTA3 imo, but still a good game.
Higher sales to system ratio than GTA3.
And exclusives are a huge problem for the Xbox. Lets look at the decent games I have:
Halo-to the PC Splinter Cell- PC/PS2/GC MGS2- PS2, PC Rallisport Challenge- PC Moto GP- PC
Lets look at the GC Metroid - None Luigi (bite me, I liked it) - None Mario - None Pikmin - None Eternal Darkness - None Resident Evil - None (unless you count PS1)
I run a P4 2.4ghz with a Ti4600, and IMO, the games look better on it. I got a steal on an Xbox, $105 with the 2 games (and a bit of deal working).
And with Zelda, Fzero, and Mario Kart, I'm suprised the GC isn't selling tons more. Guess it's the kiddy image.

Whoa, I've noticed that about Xcom also. All the freaking time.
The one that comes to mind is the tire commercial where the guy is stopped and the control panel comes out of the ground asking him to select a road. He presses it and it makes an Xcom sound and the world in front of him flips over.

Yes, but I doubt the poster can read German and/or installed the demo and tested it. There are a lot of foreign demos that end up being in English also.
There is an English website for the game, nothing under downloads though
Was wanting to know how the game worked exactly. It looks like Baulder's Gate in that you move from screen to screen, but looks like you can zoom in and out. That's what I was asking about, not really what genre.

Another patch? While a lot of folks may not like the game itself, you have to give it to the devs for keeping up with the support. EA could learn a lesson here.
The devs post frequently on the message boards. These guys and 1C (IL2 makers) have got to be some of the best devs out there as far as commitment to the community.

Badass
Haven't played online yet but just the look and feel is already impressive. I'm not let down one bit so far.
Tear gas and flashbang effects are the best in any game yet. The muzzle flashes are a bit odd on some of the weapons. The weapon models themselves are the best out. Basically 2 frames of animation when shooting.
Like on the M14 the bolt doesn't come back and eject the brass, you just see it fly through the air. Same goes on the pistols, no real animation. It's certainly passable though as you won't really be paying attention.
I knew going into it that it wouldn't have an iron sights view like Operation Flashpoint, that's about all I really wanted that wasn't included.
Just hope All Seeing Eye has support later tonight.
