if you think mario and luigi for the DS sounds awesome you should also nab it for the GBA. it's on player's choice pricing right now and it has really good graphics for the GBA as well.
for the mario kart, the DS version seems to go back to its roots in gameplay style rather than the GCN title.
oh if you want to try some of these games out you might want to try the download station in an EB games.. they have free downloadable demos you can try out until you turn off your DS

What other games are must haves? Alright, my turn.
I recently read something about Phoenix Wright being produced again due to its sudden popularity. Run a google search for more details before you spend too much on Ebay.
Dan's Essentials for DS:
Mario & Luigi Partners in Time - awesome RPG w/ comedy and length (currently at around 13 hours and i've only collected 3 shards)
Metroid Prime Hunters - for the multiplayer alone, also you can play a game with bots
Metroid Prime Pinball - easy game to pick up and play for a few minutes and also most interesting pinball game I've ever played. Comes with the rumble pack.
Tetris DS - another game that's easy to pick up and play if you only have a few minutes and it also has online multiplayer
Mario Kart - pretty fun game whether you like racing or not.. that is until you've cleared the circuits which will take some time. also has online multiplayer
New SMB - A mixture of the original super mario bros, mario 3, and world with a couple tiny elements from the 64 series. Can't go wrong. Only issue is that you can only save after 3 or 4 levels.
Some other games that are good but not necessarily essentials are Trauma Centre (surgery with your stylus, oh snap!) and Kirby Canvas Curse (stylus only, unique gameplay).
I've also heard really good thing about the Castlevania DS game but haven't had much time with it to recommend it. From what I've seen so far it has a lot of depth to it and maybe more seriousness than other games.
Thats it for me for now.

I preordered it and just finished it after the patch fixed my difficulty issue. I don't regret the buy. It was actually something I had the patience enough to finish. Also there's going to be a multiplayer component that sounds fun.

Also, if you miss an on-screen command you can be just wandering around clueless - I missed the command for melee attack and it wasn't at all clear where I had to go. I also was stuck for half a minute with the car because I was trying to get in the wrong side (there was no way to tell). I find it amusing how you never checked the controls before playing and you couldn't figure out what side of the car to get in and it's the game's fault. Haha. I will agree how the objectives aren't all that clear (especially right in the intro). I remember in Sin 1 the tab key brought up objectives. Maybe I should re-check the controls myself.

I had a lot of fun with Sin. I had some issues with the difficulty though. As soon as I hit the outside of the Sintek building the difficulty ramped up to frustrating levels (fucking squadrons of minigun guys are NOT fun!). Apparently it's a bug that they're fixing and it has to do with the difficulty system catching up too fast because I played the game to quickly. Honestly, if you're going to buy it, I'd wait to play until that patch is released.
As for the length... it's too hard to finish right now but it seems to have a good length so far. I'm part way up the Sintek building. Not sure how much more I have left but I think I'm close to being done. Once the free multiplayer addon for it comes out I think it will be well worth the 17 dollars I paid for it... not saying the single player isn't worth anything.. it's pretty good but I don't really like buying single player only games.
As for the weapons... I really like the pistol weapon and how it has some nice power. Also the iron sights were really nice addition too along with the rail gun alt fire. My favourite experience with the pistol was when I killed 2 guys in line with a single regular shot of a pistol, haha. The shotgun is pretty bad ass once you start getting a good amount of ammo for it. Reload is slow and it only holds I think 6 shots but I guess it's ok for balance. There's a type of machine gun that's ok. Grenade launcher alt fire and a sniper scope on it let you take those damned minigun guys out at a distance with minimal ammo (still good luck close up without scope :(). THose are the only ones I've got so far.
So in summation it's a pretty fun game up to a point but will return being fun after the patch they're already testing.

Although I had some time (about nine months) to accept this, the reality is finally sinking in, and I am freaking the fuck out.

And my god, can you imagine what your frame rate would look like, through a remote connection? Oh yeah, that will kill your remote desktop session as soon as you click to play. I just meant logging on to start the decryption and final downloading.
