it hits 90 degrees in mid April and stays somewhere between there and 110 until September. Yesterday the heat index was 109 or something. The point, I feel your pain. Thanks god for A/C.

Good post Halsy. I must say, I agree with you 100%. In the run up to the 2000 elections, I remember reading several articles which posed the question, "Do We Really Want an Egghead In the White House". What kind of question is that? Anyway, the conservative consensus was that the majority of US citizens were turned off by a political figure that came across as "too smart". Hmmm, I guess I like to think that the man, although he may simply be a figurehead, at the top of our government is highly intelligent. Well, if what the country wanted was someone who comes across as a simple everyday guy, I guess they nailed it with the Shrub. I'm not trying to start a flame war here at all, but IMO the guy is something of an embarrassment.

No matter how you cut it, playing the same level over and over because of no in mission saves is frikkin boring and a definite reason for not finishing a game. Limited mission saves suck just as bad a la Splinter Cell which I got in January, and have to this day not completed due to only be able to save at check points which generally come after a difficult part has been finished. SOF2 actally had it right. If you wanted you could limit yourself to 5 saves per level, or you could have as many as you wanted.

The game will |

definitely be released for PC. Xbox seems likely to be the only console capable of running the game correctly. To me, half of what makes this game cool is how great the Id artist are. Very nice work. I actually think I am going to buy this for my xbox and not my pc.

I got the alpha to run on my machine at the default resolution w/ gf3ti200 and only 256 mb ram at between 20 and 30 fps. Now I've got 640 mb ram and my gf3 is overclocked. I wonder what kind of results I'll get. I couldn't get into any of the reviews. I for one, won't upgrade just to play this game.

Good post. I totally agree. I think this game will be very solid and memorable. It doesn't have to reinvent the wheel, in terms of gameplay, to be good. I'm an artist, and from a purely artistic view, the game already has so much to offer. The detailed textures and beautiful lighting are very impressive. Also, I don't think enough people are hitting on how important the sound in this game will be. I feel it will be just as important in completing a level of immersion as the graphics. I have a feeling this will be a game I spend a lot of time playing levels over just to look around and take everything in. Half Life 2 is going to be great as well. I can't wait to see the multiplayer component. All in all, 2003 is going to be a great year for gamers.

I thought the shotgun from the alpha was great, but didn't care much for the machine gun. Is Doom 3 going to have deformable environments? Also, why aren't there more games with bump mapped and pixel shaded graphics? It adds so much to the look of things.

Need some advice. |

This is the second game this week (first being EVE)that requires DirectX 9. I wasn't going to install it since I have a Geforce 3 ti200 which is not a DirectX 9 card, and since you can't uninstall the DirectX version. Has anyone had problems on a similar card with your other games not working? I don't feel like having to reinstall my OS. Please advise. Thanks.

but rather download the Steam client and wait with bated breath for the release. Does anyone care to speculate as to whether or not this will be a game that gets distributed on Steam?

that the prices for the 9700 will possibly drop soon? I really want to get my hands on one of these cards, but can't justify the 300 + dollar price tag.
oops

I'm really impressed with this engine. It looks a lot like Doom III. It ran super smooth on my machine. p4 1.6 g3ti200. Very nice.

Thank you both for the reply. I've been wondering about this for a while now, especially when I installed Limewire, and I had to d/l some Java environment program. I couldn't remember ever having to do this for anything else, and I thought it was strange that a Windows based program needed a separate JAVA program to work.
