Much more psyched for DA:I now.

Kind of unusual for a publisher to allow a game to be reviewed (and for those reviews to be made public) so far in advance?

Wow, looking at their recommended settings, glad I upgraded from a 680 to a 970 recently.

Personally, I don't like how they lay out all the chapters up-front, with only the first one being unlocked.

I'd rather just start the game and progress naturally without being aware of all the chunks ahead of me.

Doesn't exactly make it feel "open worldish", even though I certainly don't expect anything like a Skyrim or Fallout.

I have a feeling AC:Unity is going to cause a lot of video card upgrades, even moves to SLI.

I just upgraded my 680 to a 970, but I still have some trepidation over the performance I'll experience in trying to max everything, especially since AC4 is the only game I currently have that can't hit 60fps with everything maxed.

Crisis averted, looks like they are back on Steam everywhere except the UK.

Yup, it's back.

Not a super huge deal...I would have purchased the games anyway. But nice to have most of my games installed under one roof regardless.

Been working on Metro: Last Light, and I've often thought how awesome it would be if the next Fallout looked that good.

Bethesda's "quality standards."

I guess The Evil Within was up to their standards? With a Metacritic of 67?

Well, at least there's hope Todd Howard is working diligently on ES6.

To be fair the 67 was only counting 13 critic reviews which is a poor sample. Most of the major review outlets reviewed it on the console. Meta for PS4 with 54 critics is 76, meta for XOne with 20 critics is 80.

Let's not pretend that Evil Within reviewed poorly. The PC version is a superior experience to the console version.

If I take the lowest 13 reviews of Skyrim on PC and average them, I get 88.

If not, it's damn close. It and Wolfstein are neck and neck for me...

Interesting you should say that. I just picked up SoM and Wolfenstein in the past week. Have not played much of Wolf yet, but SoM is really well done. I remember there was that controversy about the publisher making demands of people who were allowed early review copies...but ultimately, they didn't have enough faith in their game because it's pretty darn good.

I don't understand either. What are the downsides to just having an Origin account? Looking forward to DA: Inquisition, btw.

But on a more serious note, while the speed of the 680 is decent, having only 2GB VRAM is becoming a serious handicap.

Are you gaming at 2560x1440 or 4k perhaps? Unless you are running one of these resoltions or are a fan or downsmpling there is no need to have more than 2G VRAM. I got a 4GB gfx card and its serious overkill for my 1080p monitor. Maybe at some point I will get a better/bigger monitor and be thankful for the ram, but by that point Ill probably need to buy another card anyway.

I do use supersampling (now DSR) with my 1680x1050 monitor sometimes, but the bigger issue is the texture memory. In Watch Dogs, I wanted to be able to use Ultra textures because their "High" textures were comparatively horrible. In Skyrim, I wanted to be able to pack on the high res texture mods. Etc etc. Especially with open-world type games with large vistas and draw distances, texture memory is a problem.

Minimum 680GTX? Wha...?

So either your engine is a terrifying piece of shit, or you're just putting up ridiculous requirements to hopefully stop it from running like a terrible piece of shit.

Yeah WTF? the 680GTX is a damn solid card. A "flagship" card when it was first released. This is crazy, just crazy weird. I guess they want to make sure they can just straight up port the game and screw the optimizations or the PC pirates.

Whew! Good thing I just replace my ancient, creaky old 680 with a Strix 970.

But on a more serious note, while the speed of the 680 is decent, having only 2GB VRAM is becoming a serious handicap.

Here's hoping we see a lot of met or exceeded expectations next month with Far Cry 4, AC Unity, and DA:Inquisition.

Re: Watch an intense new trailer for Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'

I keep seeing these trailer plugs for this movie pushing it as the greatest, most intense, movie ever and I just don't get it. Nothing I've seen moves me the least little bit. Right now it falls on my Redbox list when I have a free, or nearly free, code to use.

I'm guessing Nolan has a few twists and surprises in store that will ultimately make people see the movie in a much different light. The studio wants to build up as much hype as possible, but of course Nolan has to balance that with not making the trailer be a total cliffs notes version of the movie.

Until the day comes that they can make an MMO that is not just another rehash of "Go fetch X of Y and return to Z" and that truly creates a dynamic, believable world, I have zero interest in the genre. Naturally, I'll probably be long dead by then. But there may be hope for my 8 year old son.

I run at 1080p with at least 2xAA with a 570 but don't get 60fps in newer titles.
You're suggesting the 970 is an overkill upgrade?

Also, my MSI 570 OC runs pretty quiet until intense load. Might have to grab from MSI again

Well I mean its up to you of course but you can get 60fps from a lesser card in most titles, especially if you back off Ultra settings/detail maxes. There are of course outlier titles so its hard to account for everything. In general 1080p isn't very demanding and I'm sure there will be a 960 at some point too for 1080p configs. This kind of card is better for a 1440p+ type setup IMO.

Some people prefer to spend a bundle up front and not have to worry about it for 4 years though so to each his own. I'm grabbing a 970 to OC and drive a 1440p config but if it was just my old 24" 1080p Dell then I would just wait a bit and see what else pops up.

My biggest problem is a GTX 680 that only has 2GB VRAM. Honestly, 4GB will probably be an issue in a year or two as well. They should have released the cards with at least 6GB. I would be much better off if I had waited to purchase a 4GB 680, so perhaps my best course of action is to wait for a 6GB+ version of the 970 or 980.

I feel the same way about my GTX 680. Feels like I just got it and it was the best thing out at the time.

I'm waiting for the Maxwell based "Titan" level of card though, since I need good compute as well as graphics for some of my own projects.

I've had my GTX 680 for over 2 years now. Great investment, but unfortunately I have the 2GB version, so it puts up a fight when I want to pile on the texture detail (e.g. uber-modded Skyrim, Watch_Dogs).

So I'm seriously considering the GTX 980. $550 every two years isn't too bad.

Not even if the subscription was 50% off would I touch this epic turd of a game.

Basically done with MMO's. Each new one is just a re-heated version of the same leftovers. No innovation. No imagination. Go to X and kill Y of Z....devolving into a never-ending arms race. Same formula. Nothing to show for it but all the wasted time that could have been spent on much more worthy pursuits. How many will look back on their lives and say: "You know, if only I spent more time playing MMOs..."?
