How about focusing on already-released games with broken SLI, nVidia?

Why in the hell would anyone want to torture themselves by playing on Nightmare mode? I played it on easy on my first run through to get all of the collectables, but Easy mode in this game is NOT easy. I just finished it again on Hard, which should be renamed Unfair Mode. Anyways, I squeezed every last achievement out of it including the One Shot (do not die) achievement.

Just started the game, and now I'm glad I chose easy.

The max difficulty I usually go through games on is Normal. Life's too short. I want to experience the content in the game, not spend countless hours slogging through the same things over and over again.

People might want to hold off patching for now. Unlike Steam, you can set Origin not to auto-update...

You can tell Steam to not update on a game-by-game basis.

can we stop getting out panties in a twist for games that actually push graphical requirements forward?

to imply that their coders are lazy or untalented, is really missing the point. that because of high requirements it is somehow a garbage port? pretty sure that a garbage port would be an identical copy of the 4GB max that the consoles have to play with. bumping that up with extra quality for PC is a GOOD THING. in fact it's THE reason to game on a PC in the first place. if you want something that runs fine on old hardware, then go buy a console.

do you even PC?

oculus support sounds great though, vorpx is garbage. if it's not native, it's not worth it.

^ Yes, this ^

Every time I sigh at how fucking terrible the US is getting, I think to myself "At least I don't live in Australia, where the government will decide what entertainment I, as an adult, can consume."

Tell your state censorship board that. I'm sure they could use a laugh. And this is a private corp doing this, not the gubment.

Not really. It's born out of the Australian government refusing to create an actually valid Adults Only/18+ rating for games (and perhaps other media), so anything that doesn't fit their qualification for the next lower ranking automatically gets rejected as unfit for society.

And my state censorship board doesn't censor anything. They may try to from time to time, but get their ass shot down by SCOTUS every single time. Until such a time as a corporation pays enough bribes to a Senator to have the First Amendment overturned, I'm in not much danger of being told, as an adult, that "such and such is unfit for your consumption."

Dude, there's a metric shit ton of censorship that goes on with media in America. And don't think the rest of the world doesn't think the US insane when we see shit like country going batshit crazy over a nipple-slip from a "wardrobe malfunction". A much larger, and much more insane reaction than 40k idiots complaining to a store.

It has always struck me as odd that the U.S. is so prudish about TV/movie content but never gives an NC-17 rating to anything that is over-the-top graphic/violent. I kind of think that will change over time however. Sex and porn are so easily accessible on the net, and in this country, that's not likely to change, which I guess is somewhat ironic.

I'm actually enjoying the game immensely. No performance issues whatsoever.

Wondering why those two fixes alone warrant a full dot release number, though.

Loving Far Cry 4. Runs great, no crashes. Just a blast to play. Only thing I had to do was copy the SLI bits from FC3 using nVidia Inspector to fix the shadows/darkness issue.

I haven't been wow'd by the first introduction to a game like this one in a long time. There was a definite holy shit moment starting it up, I didn't expect it to look that good... although, I have a 3770k with a GTX 780 and have found myself having to tweak the graphics a bit since the automatic detected Ultra was only getting ~30 with some annoying dips.

And then I spent the next 2+ hours restarting and playing with the character creator and haven't really played yet

Yeah....maybe services like Origin and Steam should add another metric in addition to "Time Played" -- "Time Spent in Character Creator"

Saying that, there's something about the handling that makes it seem less smooth than other games

This effect is what we call "UbiSoft console port quality".

Or perhaps they could take a cue from The Order: 1886 and just say it has a "filmic" quality.

From what I've heard, it won't run well on any GPU if you don't have the processor to back it up. And even then, you're not gonna get the 100 fps you were hoping for, unless maybe you're a world record holder for CPU overclock.

Was playing around with settings last night, and I found ones that I am extremely happy with, actually. Getting over 50fps everywhere, never dip down below high 40's, and everything on Ultra. Running at 2240x1400 DSR on native 1680x1050 with FXAA (TXAA seems to be buggy visually right now). I have:

2600K @ 4.4GHz
970 OC'd to 1400 core / 8000 mem
16GB RAM
Samsung 840 SSD

Much more psyched for DA:I now.

Kind of unusual for a publisher to allow a game to be reviewed (and for those reviews to be made public) so far in advance?

Personally, I don't like how they lay out all the chapters up-front, with only the first one being unlocked.

I'd rather just start the game and progress naturally without being aware of all the chunks ahead of me.

Doesn't exactly make it feel "open worldish", even though I certainly don't expect anything like a Skyrim or Fallout.

I have a feeling AC:Unity is going to cause a lot of video card upgrades, even moves to SLI.

I just upgraded my 680 to a 970, but I still have some trepidation over the performance I'll experience in trying to max everything, especially since AC4 is the only game I currently have that can't hit 60fps with everything maxed.

Not a super huge deal...I would have purchased the games anyway. But nice to have most of my games installed under one roof regardless.
