Batman Begins is great |

I saw the movie yesterday, and I absolutely enjoyed it. There was not even one "cringe" moment in the script, the action was great, acting solid, and Bale made batman really work as a character. This is the movie batman fans have been waiting for, and it's also a good enough film that even non-fans will go see it. I predict it will do well and be the start of a new series of films I am so relieved they finally got it right. Oh one more thing. The new batmobile.... rocks!

EEESh. look at the screenshot of their main "character" roman sars or whatever his name is... possibly the worst game art i've ever seen, and they actually bothered to RENDER it and post it up there. But considering the concept for the game, not really surprising.

Y'all are missing the point... I'll use bullets to help make it more obvious: Many men get vasectomies. These are generally permanent. Some men may want the same effect (i.e control over their fertility or lack thereof) without the permanent aspect of it. These men will pay for this product, should it be developed.
Voila! There you have it. Considering how much this sort of research costs, chances are that the company involved has done the marketing research and arrived at the same conclusions. :)

as a game developer |

Most game developers I think would agree that this is shitty, and certainly everyone I know feels bad for Valve. I don't think most of you fans and enthusiasts realize how much effort goes into making a game, and also how hard it is to meet release dates and also produce quality games at the same time. Games are NOT like movies. If you want games to make their release date like movies do, then you would have to do production like movies do (i.e finish the game, make your gold master, and then WAIT for 6 months before even releasing the thing... let it sit on the shelf till the right marketing time). Do the fans want that? I would think it would be better to get it as soon as its done, but hey, you can't have it both ways.

Couldn't this, by itself, be the reason for the improvements in cholesterol levels? No, because the people who showed no improvement in cholesterol levels were on the same diet. That's the whole point of putting them on the controlled diet: to make sure it's the tea...

I really enjoyed the first two encounters. I worked with the engine for a long time as well (on a couple of budget titles), and it was one of my favorites. I can't wait to see what these Croatians cook up for their new engine and tools, and of course it will be a blast to play, too.

Judging from the fact that Apple had that deal going with Volkswagen where you could get an Ipod with car power kit and tape deck adapter when you bought a New Beetle, I'd say it has AC in.

Shit, i thought the indoor areas with lighting and normal map stuff looked nice, and then he steps outside..... man... the detail, the sheer scale! An impressive piece of technology here. I'd like to get my hands on it. I am excited, can't wait to see if they have used it to make a good game.

Go Gabe |

Relating the the subject: I am pleased that Gabe came up with some more details, so we know what the hell he's talking about. It is interesting to read the other day's thread and see how everyone freaked out. Rather sad, but maybe that was the idea. To draw more attention and get NVIDIA to fix the problem? At any rate, I never use AA. But I do think they ought to just use OpenGL. It doesn't have this AA problem, right? Honestly Valve...

Ok, this has got to be one of the most off-track threads I've read in a while I mean, couldn't we just argue about half-life vs. halo or something. At least that relates to the subject... sort of... um...

As post #53 says, you'd need silly bandwidth to make anything playable. Compare this to popping in a disc and playing, well, I don't think people are going to be as eager to download everything as some people seem to think. Even on a broadband connection, downloading a full sized game (anyone try playing some of the betas of the latest mmorpgs???) takes a hell of a long time. They ship games on DVDs for consoles already, and many pc games come on multiple cdroms. Think it out... this concept, whatever its merit, is too soon for its time because the connectivity is not there, and the speed is just not there. Don't let me get started on the whole annoying copyright thing... this is entirely the wrong direction as far as that is concerned. No I/O except an internet hookup??? Forget it...

This is the start of something big |

I wish I had thought of this... Look how much people pay for playing online games as it is, and how much they pay for some virtual +150 sword of badness on ebay. The possibility of winning some money with their fps skills? Well, people won't be able to resist. This beats the hell out of the gaming tournaments they have now, because even an average player can have a chance of getting some dough in a lower stakes game. And it's all online... Mark my words, this will become a *huge* industry Bet there will be a dozen copycat websites in no time.

http://www.stellaawards.com/ Randy Cassingham (of This is True publication) has started this great newsletter which is both entertaining and illuminating with regards to the problem of frivolous lawsuits. It's generated interesting discussion too. I recommend any of y'all who get riled about this sort of thing check out the newsletter, it's often quite funny, and all true (with bibliography included in each issue).
