It's possible that there is a legal reason they chose the name "TrainZ" instead of "Trains". It can be very difficult to trademark/copyright something in common usage, but something unique, regardless of how lame, can be claimed and defended.

Either that or a marketroid got hold of it and decided TrainZ was l33t3r than XTrains: Xtreme Trains.

The field of view (FOV) is very consolish I assume. I feel like I have my eyeballs pressed against the monitor. The weapons dont' feel terribly solid and the enemy AI is really weak. I felt in no danger with the possible exception of the Robo-cop style mech.

I'm personally puzzled by the release date of this one since it contains gameplay based on Episode III. Won't that be a major spoiler?

I thought the demo was a lot of fun as a puzzler. Sure, it's consolish, but that's what I expected so it didn't really bother me.

Saying Tribes is UT with jetpacks is like saying lions are tigers without stripes...

stupid and very inaccurate

I totally agree. I got pretty sick of the people who were saying it with sincerity and had to take the chance to poke fun.

So if Tribes:Vengeance is "just" UT2k4 with jetpacks, what is XMP? Tribes without the disc launcher?

(For those unfamiliar with the mod, XMP units have a limited jet-assisted boost)

I'm surprised that the amount of free time per day/week/month isn't limited. I would assume that running up against a time limit on a recurring basis would be a much better "carrot" than seeing some other user with a cool sword (no double-entendre intended).

smaller levels

Smaller yes, too small, no

GLINT 'O EASYNESS to everything

So you miss having to pick up every fricking cup and plate to see which ones were valuable, and then try to find some quiet way to drop them when they weren't? I agree with a previous poster that this is a wonderful way of expressing Garrett's thief skills.

it seems unaware of what happened in Thief 2

How so? I haven't noticed any glaring omissions.

numerous issues with the AI

The thief series has always had AI issues. I'm not sure I'm good enough to play a Stealth game with a realistic AI.

NPCs that will endlessly respawn, NPCs that do not even bother to respawn offscreen

Haven't seen the offscreen respawning and the only place I've seen respawning at all is in Auldale. I think, like SysShock2, respawning is there to add to the tension. I though it was appropriate for SS2, but I admit it seems out of place in Thief 3.

taking out the ever-basic rope

I miss the rope and love the gloves.

lacking polish

Agreed. I've seen too many "holes" in the walls that shouldn't be there that any extensive playtesting would have caught and fixed.

Overall, I'm very pleased with it. I think it's the best grpahics yet, the sound is top-notch (The Cradle scared me more than the Doom3 demo ever did). I appreciate new gameplay elements and hope that if Spector was involved with T3, that he'll produce more stuff in the future.

The team has also spent time on researching the way terrorists undertake tasks and missions...

A) How did they perform this research?

B) Tasks? Like, how to terrorists take out the trash? Strip and paint the hall?

The Babel fish is your friend:

As admits today became, the first fans already work on a modification for Doom 3. The long-longed third part to the Action Shooter system Shock is in makes momentary and is based on the Doom 3-Engine. The moreover one still industrious people are needed, those the work on system Shock 3: Inside the Darkness propel. Standing simply down follow left and announce you to young, if interest exists.

Looks like this is a mod

Man, do I miss that. I loved just blowing through a level with the grapple.

The SP demo was fun, but I hope it's not indicative of the complete SP experience, or even the majority of it. I would be hoping for missions, with objectives other than kill everyone. And an in-mission save game feature would be real nice. My expectation is that these things are there, but I'd really like to try them out in a demo.

Did anyone else think that for 500+MB the demo should have been a little longer and more coherent? Why does it end after you shoot the planes down? And how are you supposed to tell them apart (the planes) until they fly right overhead (so you can see the meatball on the wings)?

Decent graphics and I didn't notice any sluggishness in the controls.

It can't even identify that my video card isn't DX9. It told me I have a great system for Painkiller (The demo was a few steps above a slideshow) and that I should have no trouble running Thief 3 (minimum DX9 and I have a GeForce 440MX). I'm surprised too, since Futuremark seems to be behind it.

Who you calling a whippersnapper? I'd argue that Urban Assualt (http://www.microsoft.com/games/urbanassault/) predates Battlezone (the PC version, not the arcade of course). Of course, you were never a footsoldier, but rather commanded vehicles. Still, very similar. Highly underrated game IMHO.

I believe the old Voodoo technique was called Scan Line Interleaving. One card handled the even lines, the other the odd.

As far as it being prohibitively expensive, that might not be the case. If you could hook up two relatively-cheap 9600 Radeons (~$120/piece) and get better performance than a 9800 XT (~$300?), it might make sense.

Of course, their relianc on PCI-Express means most of the currently cheap video cards aren't an option...

Although it lacks the base-building and general campaign aspects of X-COM, Laser Squad Nemesis has a great combat engine. And it's no longer just Play By EMail (PBEM). I've been enjoying the single-player demo.

One of my biggest beefs is the relative flatness of his female characters.

Can't be that flat with the way they are continually crossing their arms under their breasts...
