I honestly dont think publishers are that stupid to not see that copy protections dont do shit (except keeping the redneck boy without Internet in Oklahoma from copying his friends DVD.
Its the investors that need to be calmed with something like that. I think most publishers have a huge fear that investors and shareholder could jump off when they would all of the sudden announce that they dont protect their games anymore.

Nobody wants arty games anymore, because nobody remembers how awesome they can be.
I actually wanted to be a game developer some time ago, but honestly, right now I cant really imagine being creative with such restrictions. It would probably be like hell dreaming about the perfect game and then suddenly getting a hammer on the head by the publisher.

News Comments > ARMA II Diary Movies
19. Re: ARMA II Diary Movies Jul 27, 2009, 10:28 Muscular Beaver

I played single player and will again if they release an expansion or some good player made missions will be released.
But right now only multiplayer and the mission editor are all I need.

I saw some bugs, but after 1.02 most of them are gone and they were never really severe before that (the worst was that I had to reload or restart a mission because, as in ArmA and OFP, some script messed up or an AI didnt take the route that he was probably supposed to take. Some of them were also caused by me because for example I thought the AI wouldnt be that smart (they can also hear and communicate with each other and dont always stand there around the corner and wait for you to shoot em).
Most of those bugs actually reminded me of other games that people claim to be polished. So, I really dont see what the fuss is all about.

Of course its not polished well, but seriously, how many that complex games have you played in the recent past? Developed by such a small developer?
Normally I am a perfectionist, but here I cant understand at all why so many people whine about it. I guess they never played OFP or ArmA and never liked those either. ArmA 2 is actually far more polished than OFP or ArmA were at their release. So to say that they didnt learn is nothing more than ignorant bashing. As I said before in some thread, people seem to be too used to dumbed down console ports with overly simple controls, AI that is completely predictable and then expect all that from a simulator like ArmA2. I remember one guy from my last LAN that instantly uninstalled it after being shot in the back while sprinting over a field without cover. His exact words were "WTF this shit game is cheating".
One of them even whined about the random aspects the game had. He failed one mission and then tried to outflank the AIs that killed him before, but they were randomly placed and were at a different position than last time and he died again to them because he tried to play this game like a generic shooter. God was he mad at the game for that...

Arma2 is what.. the 3rd iteration of the same product, on the same code base - by now it should be rock solid.

More ignorance. It was rewritten and only parts were imported, and if you ever had something to do with software, you would know that even importing parts of old software and use it in new versions can be a disaster and needs much work to run properly.

This game is really awesome. IMO the best game since 2 years. Actually more because I finally found a game again that I can play regularly in multiplayer.
The bugs are overhyped and that "argument" is really getting old...

News Comments > Diablo II Resolution/Ratio Mod
7. Re: Diablo II Resolution/Ratio Mod Jul 24, 2009, 07:47 Muscular Beaver

Diabo 1 & 2 were all about the mood and story for me. They were far too simple to keep me playing just because of the gameplay. Thats why I never liked Titan Quest or Sacred - their stories and atmospheres were crap. But on the other hand I loved Dungeon Siege because its graphics & sounds were extremely moody and the maps very well made, even though the story was almost non-existent.

IIRC, you can only use the resolutions of the BG2 engine. I think it was a maximum of 1600x1200 with no widescreen resolutions available. But in this mod I could choose up to 1920x1200. However, I get weird artifacts on the screen with such high resolutions. 1600x900 worked, well though. More than good enough for me.

Wow, that looks really nice. Cant believe a 9 year old 2D engine can still look that awesome. No 3D engine that old can reach it even remotely, no matter which mod.
A shame that they use a 3D engine for D3 which already looks like its 5 years old.

Im going to reinstall D2 now.

Have you ever actually read the WoW lore or know any of it? It's far more interesting than Diablo by far..

I read it more than enough times and its a fucking joke. So many childish story moments, for example when Arthas turns into the Lich King because he wants revenge at all costs. Reminds me of comic book stories without any logic or dramatically overdone human emotions. The whole Warcraft setting isnt really made for a good story.
However, their intro movies are fucking awesome and you could actually think that the games would reach that level when you first see them, but the games dont even come close to the awesomeness of their movies. The only games that came close to their intros and cutscenes were Diablo 1 & 2. And that was Blizzard Norths accomplishment (completely different development team than warcraft and starcraft). Go figure.

Yeah, its really superior to the mature and far more realistic Diablo setting and story (have you actually read the Diablo story that came with the first game and the novels?)...

Fuck that...it's gotten to the point where a developer can port a game from one platform to another without much derivation in gameplay. Frankly, I'm rather glad the era of PC-exclusives is more or less passed. There's no sense or point in it anymore.

WTF? Looks like the decline of intelligence is also getting worse and worse.
Seriously, stupid posts like that have been pretty common on BN lately...

I wonder how many truly realize the irony when Gabe says 'copy-protection is a step in the wrong direction' while selling games on Steam... a service that is nothing more than a glorified, copy-protection, DRM platform.

Yeah, they already sound like politicians.

Fixed.

LOL, I thought I know who wrote this. Typical childish mentality that is mostly found in the WoW forums. I remembered who I called that before and oh surprise, its indeed Verno.
Youre so predictable.

Lol, I like how he explains it for the people who never played a complex game like this.
"It's going to be very hard because, I'm alone against a large squad"
"I need to be extremely cautious"
"I'm continually using the alt key to scan the surrounding environment"
"Oh, I run into open field and they instantly killed me"
etc.
rofl...

I kinda have the feeling that he is trying to explain the complexity of this game to all the idiots who dont even closely understand the complexity and then come to the forums and whine about how many "bugs" the game has.

Anyways, the editor is indeed one of the best part of this game. When I am making missions with it I feel like a director and not like some generic map designer with very limited options in other games.

EDIT: Duh, at the end of the video he is even talking it out directly.

All these negative examples. Without complaining you guys would still sit in your caves and play with stones and your balls.
Also you can say that people who complain a lot and are "never" satisfied are the best directors and QA people. Ive learned it myself.
If youre the Uwe Boll type, then so be it. Actually quite fitting because youre as ignorant as him.

People who complain are there for a very good reason, and if people start to bash them just for that... sorry then Ill jump on your generalization bandwagon and say that they are the kind of people who would be the first to remove the right of free speech if they had the power to do so.
I know these kind of people very well. Zero tolerance, they think they are a superior being and are ignorant as fuck. And funnily, I see most of these attributes in your posts.
Good night.

Time to find something new to do. I suggest knitting. Maybe fingerpainting.

Im not desperate for new hobbies because it doesnt mean that I dont get any joy out of a hobby if I criticize it. Dont need to be an ignorant fanboy/prick to enjoy something. I also already have my car that is pretty time and money consuming. I would still do something very different if I needed a new one. Like RC aircraft models or a dog or something like that. But thanks anyways for the suggestions that came to your mind.

Games are the only reason I use Windows and not Linux. Just keep going, MS.
Oh and no, I wont buy ANY console (and surely not an Xbox). I would rather stop playing games all together
