Fallen Earth has a nice old-school mmo vibe. I'm liking it a lot.

I have to agree. You shouldn't have to pay a startup fee (i.e. $50) for an mmo. If your game is any good, people will happily pay a sub fee which will easily cover the startup fee you think you're missing.

I think it's pretty lame to charge a startup fee only to realize after just a few hours of playing that it's horrible. Then you're stuck with a game you don't even want to play.

I've got a feeling that GW2 is going to make all pay2play mmos look really bad.

This is complete bullshit. I hope people pirate the living shit out of it now.

Yeah, because that will always help dev teams get paid.

I played it for a little while. The art directions is pretty good. The quests are fairly interesting. But all-in-all, it ends up feeling like your standard mmo grinder where you're doing more work than having fun playing a 'game'. I kind of feel bad for these guys because they worked on the game for so long. On the other hand, it was their choice to go with the standard model and not try anything new.

Any game that comes AW (After WoW) and uses the standard model will fail pretty quickly. I don't care how high of quality it is. If the gameplay is the standard grinder, it will fail to hook western subscribers.

News Comments > PC Modern Warfare 2 $60? [Updated]
30. Re: PC Modern Warfare 2 $60? Aug 18, 2009, 11:31 Steele Johnson

I rarely pay $60 for a console game. I'm typically patient and wait for a used copy or a significant price drop. The economy sucks, so I'm not going to give in to the nickel and diming of the consumer. Screw them.

I really hate how every little thing goes up in price when the economy sucks. Nickel and diming the average person does not work. These companies are just hurting themselves and causing more layoffs. Dumbasses.

After reading this, it's nice to know that I'm not the average gamer (i.e. I'm much older than the average and in much better shape).

This type of mmo is dying out quickly in the west. I just don't see the genre surviving if it stays on this track. And from the looks of some of the games coming out, I think we'll see a genre shift in the near future.

As far as this game goes, they'll probably get a lot of subscribers at first, but I don't think the game will hold their attention for too long.

This genre has a really bad case of 'been there, done that'. I guess you could say that about most other genres, but the problem with this genre is that the story doesn't save it like FPSs and single player RPGs.

The same goes for most RTSs. Now that's a genre that has been burnt out for a really long time. I feel like no matter what game I play, I'm really just playing the same game over and over, and that's how mmos make me feel now.

Sounds like a good next step for them. The single player stuff gets boring. I'd like to see some mmo action from these guys.

I feel sorry for Australians. Anything more adult than Mario Party gets banned.

I feel sorry for the developers. The Australians can always download a warez version.

I guess people still haven't figured out that Turbine is just a money laundering outfit for the Boston area.

Yeah, because it couldn't be about creating great games like LotRO.

I think you're up for 'dumbass comment of the day' award.

Yeah, and I'd rather they take their time and make it an amazing game rather than rushing it to market.

So Beatles Rock Band is basically all their shit pop music?

I think you've got that the other way around. The original Rock Band is the shit pop music. This one is the Beatles Edition. Highlighting the music of one of the only bands that were able to create truly timeless music.

"It was called episodic content and it failed miserably."

Exactly.

Also, why would I want to invest in something that gives me no return? The only thing I'd get in the end is the option to buy a product that I invested in.
