Must be a UK study because I haven't a clue what a "game portal" is.
I believe what they mean is that they go through another website like Facebook, AOL, Yahoo games, etc. |

| Risen is a great game. Nice to see it on there. It's one of those games that really makes you feel like you're in the game world. What I really like about it is how difficult it is at the beginning and then you slowly get more powerful. There are too many games that allow you kill too easily at the very beginning. I need a real feeling of progression and and Risen seems to nail it. |

"I've been playing for hte last 2 weeks and not had any issues at all. "
Same here. I've been playing for almost a month and there was only one day that I had a little problem logging in. But other than that, I've had no problems and there are plenty of players on the server. I really think this game is a lot of fun. Don't let the naysayers (i.e. people who probably haven't played it) sway you (but I do agree that all mmos shouldn't charge for the game; only the subscription). |

I have to agree. You shouldn't have to pay a startup fee (i.e. $50) for an mmo. If your game is any good, people will happily pay a sub fee which will easily cover the startup fee you think you're missing.
I think it's pretty lame to charge a startup fee only to realize after just a few hours of playing that it's horrible. Then you're stuck with a game you don't even want to play.

I played it for a little while. The art directions is pretty good. The quests are fairly interesting. But all-in-all, it ends up feeling like your standard mmo grinder where you're doing more work than having fun playing a 'game'. I kind of feel bad for these guys because they worked on the game for so long. On the other hand, it was their choice to go with the standard model and not try anything new.
Any game that comes AW (After WoW) and uses the standard model will fail pretty quickly. I don't care how high of quality it is. If the gameplay is the standard grinder, it will fail to hook western subscribers.
