At the end of the day, it's just the same ol' "fetch x kill x" game that we all love so much.

Honestly once guild wars 2 comes out why even bother with most of these older games?

People keep saying that but I've yet to see the evidence substantiating GW2 as the second coming of Christ. All I have to go on are videos and while some of the ideas presented are interesting (as in, "gee, this is something that obviously should have been implemented into MMOs a long fucking time ago"), it still mostly looks like standard MMORPG.

I agree. And if it's anything like the first game, I know I'll get bored pretty quickly. I thought the first Guild Wars was a horrible game.

This game has some of the worst game design I've seen in a game. It seems like it was developed by a different company.

All you have to do is watch the youtube gameplay videos, and it will convince you not to play it. Same boring story-driven, repetative combat crap that you've all played before. Sorry, A different theme and voice acting isn't enough (see kotr) to win over gamers who want a player-driven dynamic experience that next gen mmos are leaning towards. Funcom fails again, so don't be fooled by the early reviews.

Story driven is fine if you can bang out the content fast enough. If not it's pointless.

I disagree. The more time and resources that these companies spend on the story component of their mmo, the higher the risk of failure. If they want to make a story driven game, stick with a single player game. It has already been proven that mixing the two doesn't work. It fails.

An mmo should be driven by the players. Period.

Unfortunately it has at least one glaring fault: it's almost entirely story driven

Yeah, that right there is reason for me not to even bother. My favorite MMO's of all time, Ultima Online, Asheron's Call *Darktide*, and Planetside, had very little, if anything, to do with story. I read books, see movies, etc for stories, I play MMO's to interact with other players. Usually in negative fashion, hence my three favorite MMO's. :-)

I agree. I mean, who the hell cares about a story in an mmo? It's a massive "multiplayer" game. The players should be creating the drama. Anyhow, Bioware already proved that a story driven mmo was a mistake.

I really haven't been following this game very closely, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't this just another "fetch x items, kill x mobs" type game? Isn't this genre way burnt to a crisp?

I like to call these games (and specifically the latest Diablo) a Trash Collecting sim. All you do is run around and pick up useless trash, and then hike back to a place where you can dump it. Over and over and over again. Do that many people have OCD to justify keeping this genre alive? OMG!

"Cliff Bleszinski: “I don’t think Kinect has been fully realised”."

The problem with Kinect is that it doesn't work in every environment. There's always the chance that you'll have to move furniture around to make room if the area is too small. That's quite the limitation, IMO. Otherwise, the technology is great. It's just not something that everyone will use.

I'll be honest, I bought the Celestial Steed when it first came around due to impulse and felt awful about it after the first day. What was truly hilarious though was the fact that, next to the mount, there was a gauge to show you how many were left in stock which appeared to at around 75%.

They put a stock gauge on a virtual item...

Anyway, people wonder why the gaming industry is turning in to a nickel and dime scheme and this is the reason for it and I feel like a bastard for getting that horse which I no longer use. Ever.

Apparently, it didn't alter your gaming experience. So it's not the developer's fault for creating it, it's your fault for buying it. It's just bling. Some people like bling, some people don't.

People are certainly entitled to spend their hard earned money on virtual my little ponies if they want to just like I am entitled to mock them on public forums for doing so

I used to subscribe to the argument that "oh who cares, dont buy it". The trouble with that is that there are many people who will do so for whatever reason (impulse, aesthetics, etc) which just encourages the development of similar content since it is cheap and easy to produce. It really does affect everyone in some ways, I think its more accurate to say "you cant really do anything about it!".

Who cares if it encourages more content for sale? Again, you don't have to buy it. It doesn't alter your existing game.

When a friend has a nicer car than yours and paid a certain amount of money that you wouldn't pay, should the car manufacturer stop making the nicer car?

You logic is dumb. Who are you to price what it costs for development? Everything that you buy is marked up.

It's nice to see that they took a lot of the community feedback while designing this game. I definitely have a good feeling about this one. I'm hoping that it sets the bar for online shooters, and puts all current mmos to shame.

I have to say, after 12 years of development, Diablo 3 turned out to be quite the shitty game. I'd like to get my money back too.

It's by far the only mmo worth looking at. All the others are just more of the same. Can't wait!

This genre is burnt to a crisp no matter how pretty the game is. Next gen mmos like Planetside 2 is so far the only one worth looking at, IMO. GW2 is still going to be kill x fetch y.

I thought Conviction was a really fun co-op game. I didn't even bother playing the single-player. Me and a friend just blasted through and was one of the most entertaining co-op games I've played in a while.

This game was a failure as soon as it was announced. The genre was burnt out even before the project started. Not to mention choosing a burnt out theme and one that not too many female gamers care about. Bioware made a really bad choice.

That's what happens when you outsource your programming to China and have only bonehead managers at the main office managing the project.

That's too bad. I'm having a lot of fun with the game. I believe the failure was combo of piss poor management and biting off more than they could chew. I really don't believe that a game startup should be taking out a 75 mil loan and hiring 400 people for the very first game. Doesn't make any sense.
