I see nothing great about Destiny. Looks like any sci-fi shooter (e.g. Halo). Definitely doesn't scream nex-gen, that's for sure.

Told you.

This is why you don't use Origin, because it tracks you(no matter what servers you play on), and EA feeds off of that and has the nerve to announce it's numbers to the public too.

Why is that a bad thing? It's an online game. Their servers track connections, sessions, etc, like any type of server you've connected to. Are you really that paranoid? Any company has the right to know how often their users use their software.

Here's the thing, Gates knows that MS is bringing Office and a slew of business tools to Surface/Win8.x while Apple is generally focused on Consumer rather than Enterprise. It makes sense for Gates to express the difference. Sure, there are ways to do it with iPad with 3rd party apps and attachable keyboards, but MS's business has always been Enterprise and they've be providing the tools and will be throwing millions of dollars at the teams to make it happen. I have an iPhone, iPad, Win7 laptop and Win8 desktop. I will happily sell off Apple and all their iGadgets when MS can deliver a seamless OS that works with all devices the way they should. And frankly, I believe they will get there. There are differences between Apple, Google, and MS. Apple has 2 operating systems that are not even close to the same thing. Even Google has that with the dying Chrome OS. But Google's Android is such a fragmented OS, I'd be surprised if they can even tap into Enterprise level support. If MS plays their cards right, having one OS that works on all devices and keeps everything in sync could blow away both Apple and Google. But that's a big "IF" they play their cards right. Releasing Win8 too early was a mistake, but I really believe they'll recover from that.

I like all these companies if they have what I need. MS has given me a decent gaming platform for a long time by providing the tools to the developer, while others have neglected that market. I would really be disappointed if MS went under and all that was left is Apple and Google. Then we'd all be stuck with mobile gaming and consoles. Would you guys really be happy about that? I like being able to get the best graphics cards and peripherals for hardcore gaming. I would be really sad to see that go away... so show some support for the company that enabled the hardcore pc gamer. Don't just be anti-MS because you think it's the cool way to be. Support hardcore gaming. It would be really cool if you could play a game on your phone, and then play the same game with more features and better graphics on another platform, while saving your game and having different experiences by using better hardware and peripherals. Apple is not going to do it, Google is not going to do it. The only company that has that vision right now is MS.

"No game designer ever went wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," Wright said, alluding to H.L. Mencken's famous quote, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." By that, Wright meant that it's important to give players a chance to share (or show off) their progress and achievements in a game.

Oh really? I don't give a shit about virtual achievements or have any need to share my progress in a game. What a completely asinine blanket statement. And who the hell is a fluff designer like Wright to talk about what's falling short as a medium? Jesus, the ego on the guy. Rolleyes

What the hell are you talking about? Did you ever hear of a multiplayer game? Nothing he said had anything to do with what you're even implying.

I'll be honest. When I was younger, all my friends (I refuse to include myself) smoked a lot of pot and (thanks to it being a gateway) other drugs. Now that we're all grown up and reliable adults, every last one has at least one autistic child. Coincidence? Certainly autism rates have skyrocketed. My theory? Recreational drug use.

They're also all suffering from conditions at a higher rate than the national average (everything from sleep apnea to strokes to autoimmune). Better diagnosis? No, probably the drugs again. The problem is that simply not enough studies have been done to properly analyze the long-term effects of drugs.

As I'm a scientist and can see 15+ years after the fact now, I can tell you it's pretty obvious. If I could only go back in time...and trust me when I say my friends feel the same. Now they add in a far higher than average cost to the medical system because they wanted to "just smoke a little weed."

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I don't buy the theory, only because I know people who have never done drugs in their life and have at least one autistic child, while I know people who have done mild recreational drugs for years and have perfectly normal children. Autism is most likely caused by something completely man-made, like something in food, water, medications, etc. Just like cancer. Most common cases of cancer are for the most part, a man-made disease. It's a side-effect from something unnatural. Anyone with common sense knows that by now. The reason you see more "Find a cure" campaigns and funding than "Prevent the disease" is because pharma companies can't make money off it. The cure to something like cancer or autism is "prevention", but big business is so tied into the government, it will never happen.

Put that in your mouth and eat it.

I'm not sure I want to support legalization of weed in US. The government will take over, find ways to increase profit by sacrificing the health of the user. Just like they do with everything. Higher yields generally comes with a price, and the price in the case of something that's ingested or inhaled is the user's health. Humans created cancer, nature didn't.

PC Manufacturers without tablets or mobile devices angry they didn't release a tablet or mobile device - blame it on Windows 8.

That's my version of the headline.

Seriously, if your big sales push relies on somebody else to hype up the entire industry you'll just have to take the lumps that are handed to you.

I agree. So many dumb and clueless people keep 'blaming' it on MS. Again, it has nothing to do with MS! Sure, they were late to the game with tablet and phones with good usability, but that's nothing to blame. Apple just designed the next step in personal computing before anyone else. That's all it is. So please, enough with the blame on MS for lackluster pc sales. Gamers will still buy pcs for as long as game companies still support them, and they still support them on Windows 8.

I love this game! No levels, skill based, different types of quests (puzzle, stealth, sabotage, etc), best mmo to come out in a LONG time. Don't listen to the naysayers, they are clueless.

PC sales are slumping because the average consumers have computers that fit in their pockets and also buy slightly bigger ones called tablets. It has nothing to do with Microsoft and Windows 8. PCs were starting to slump long before Windows 8; around the time the iPhone and iPad were released. You can debate this all you want. Everyone wants to blame MS and Windows 8. But guess what, f'n Linux desktops have been around for 20 years, what has that done for consumer PC sales? Nothing.

And if you could get your little minds out of your oversized graphics cards, you'd see that MS is at least trying to make their OS work seamless across all types of platforms, while both Apple and Google cannot. Apple has to support 2 completely different OSes where the devs need to port their apps to work on both OSes, and Google's Andriod OS is so fragmented that your app may not even run on older or newer devices. FAIL.

So while Win8 isn't perfect, I believe MS is on a much better path than both Apple and Google. Cut them some slack and give them a chance to fix the issues. They've been providing you all a decent gaming platform for a long time. Show some support, or you're just going to help it fizzle away completely and all you'll have is mobile gaming with closed systems like a console.

The only thing that you can do, is not support them. I feel like no matter how many people complain, they'll still go out and buy their games. As long as they keep pulling in the money, they don't care if they've been voted worst company in America x 10. Look at a company like Comcast. I think they hold a world record for the most BBB complaints against them, yet their prices still go up by nickle-and-diming the consumer and they laugh all the way to the bank.

Because Tabula Rasa was *such* a good game!

Should have left that ego in orbit.

Imo, Tabula Rasa was one of the best mmos ever created. Its demise was due to poor marketing and bad timing. It had zero to do with game design.

I have no idea what some of you guys are talking about. This game has to be one of the easiest shooters I've ever played, and shooters aren't even my favorite genre. You enter the game, hit insert key to auto join a team, you select a class (which is very self explanatory), you click on the team lead and select deploy. Now you're with your unit either defending or attacking the enemy who has a different colored uniform. As you play, you easily figure out what your class can do, or maybe go to a vehicle terminal and easily figure out what the vehicles do. Please, someone tell me what the difficulty is.

I've been playing this game for a while now, just a little less these days because frankly I'm getting bored with how easy and mindless it really is.
Not sure if I can say "one of the easiest". When I started playing it wasn't immediately clear what the objectives were, how to go about accomplishing them, why everyone was standing around, why there was a building we couldn't enter that people were still spawning in, how to get up to a biolab, how to find the squad leader or what world he was on, etc.

Basic gameplay mechanics are easy, and getting kills is easy, but there could be some better explanations on "big picture" things.

They had a noobie guide during beta. A quick google search is all you need to find a "beginner's guide". I wish they would spend time adding more gameplay mechanics than a hand-holding tutorial. Crap like that is going to hurt the game, not make it better.

And gamers wonder why triple A titles are getting dumbed down.

I think Blizzard justified their long dev cycles by releasing amazing games. But Diablo 3 was horrible, so they're now different from what they were. Now they spend a really long time developing crappy games. That's kind of the worst place you'd want to be.
