News Comments > Painkiller Add-on Delayed
24. Re: NOT an Excellent Game Aug 19, 2004, 16:30 Furious

This is a very euphamistic way of saying that the gameplay is boring (which it is).

Yeah, too bad Doom was so terrible, I mean, it was so bad it spawned a revolution in PC Gaming that allows selfish, self-centered, know it all, bratty little fucks like yourself to enjoy the "higher end" genius level FPS's that are out today %). You young kids don't appreciate anything these days, everything handed to you on plate, no imagination at all. I wish they would teach kids to appreciate history a bit more, but most kids have ADD now so everything is boring. Go take your prozak kid.

I am still annoyed with being expected to pay the same $30 for less than half of the original game.

Hmm, EPIC fanbois don't seem to mind that model and they only get 1/5th of a new game. I would expect to be able to find that expansion for $20 easy on the initial release week at BestBuy, thats not so bad.

10. Excellent Game Aug 19, 2004, 10:41 Furious

Painkiller is a fun game, good 'ole fashion Doom style throwback FPS with graphics as good as any on the market and an excellent physics presentation. I will finish Painkiller after I finish Doom 3, which I am also immensely enjoying in it's 'intended' state. '04 is gonna be a good year.

EDIT - Spelling

Should keep companies who write Virus Checkers busy for quite a long time to come.

Yeah, open beta is a good idea, especially for a game that is going to be predominately Online MP.

LotR : Battle for Middle Earth

Yep, looks lke a 'must-buy' if you like RTS's at all.

Valve can't keep anything secure and they want us to use thier push content that puts stuff on our HDD's wether we want it or not, shouldn't take long for hackers to figure out how to piggy back that and install trojans etc. I'll wait on HL2 for at least 6 months after release just to see what happens, I don't trust Valve at all with regards to STEAM.

Even Furious says
If a and b do not need active Internet connections everytime you start a SP or LAN game then I don't have a huge problem with STEAM

Proved that he is wrong, then he replies that he still doesn't like it because he "has to" install Steam. Even though he said he wouldnt have a problem if you didnt need it for SP and LAN.

Gabe Newell Teabag you much? Enjoy licking off that Special Sause from the Big Mac that fell on his sack? You'll be happy with STEAM and it's need to make you have the full product even for SP and or LAN until one day you:

1) Connect to STEAM
2) It starts to update your HL2 with new files
3) A T-Storm etc knocks out your Broadband/Modem connection
4) You no longer play HL2 SP or LAN until your connection is restored. If you lived in Maine a few winters ago power and utilities (Cable) were down for weeks.
5) Have fun with a product you can't use when you want how you want.

Why don't they just run the fucking 'current' version until the all the files are d/l'ed then apply them? Why the "when the full product is downloaded" stipulation? Why can't the consumer play offline WHENEVER they want? This cancels out my point of a or b as there are times when you will not be able to play SP or LAN Offline. Your a good little 'follower' Dagok.

It's not as bad as it used to be then. But it should still be an optional install none-the-less.

Is there an official stance from Valve regarding:

a) The need to have an active Internet Connection to play HL2 Single Player.

b) The need to have an active Internet Connection to play HL2 via LAN.

If a and b do not need active Internet connections everytime you start a SP or LAN game then I don't have a huge problem with STEAM, but, if I have to have a valid internet connection to play option a or b then thats just one up's Microsoft in the "we will control you" dept.

Which is on the internet. Juuust checking.

Which is an optional connection. Juuuust checking.

Don't think you are correctly separating FORCED verse OPTIONAL.

And you can't easily download full-length movies or TV episodes without Kazaa or Bittorrent, but nobody bitches about that.

Not comparable, it's "You will use Steam or you don't play HL2, not even SP" as to "Hey you want this movie, then use bit torrent, I could care less if you download it or not".

I don't really care about getting authenticated (-sp) for online play, thats fair to me and WoN never bothered me. But to tell me I HAVE TO have a valid Internet connection to play a Single Player game is OVER THE LINE. To have to have a valid Internet connection to play a LAN game is OVER THE LINE. I bought the game, don't fucking monitor me when I'm not online.

Guess some of you people won't mind when big brother puts camera's in your house to monitor you. Oh No!

It seems like a lot of reviewers are sort of positive about Doom 3, but disappointed.

They should just dig out thier reviews of Doom 2 from 1994 and say it's the same gameplay with MUCH better graphics... cause like, this is simply a remake...

Most games with quicksaves lose the tension because its hey I can just save after every jump or after every enemy I've shot.

Tell that big Italian Hitman that is standing behind you with a gun to your head making you use the Quick Save to go away because it is ruining your gaming experience.

For the purests: map flashlight to the right mouse button -- makes switching between the flashlight and your current weapon a breeze...

Never thought about doing that, thanks for the tip, works like a charm!

I personally like playing the game as intended, having to switch between light and weapon...

Yeah, I like the challenge also, makes it more strategic... do I put down the flashlight and hope for the best? ...or do I think I can switch to the shotty fast enough.... makes me approach a dark area much more cautiously instead of just run & gun. Cool MOD none-the-less.
