News Comments > On the UT2003 Demo Leak
31. Re: No subject Jun 11, 2002, 23:25  Frans

Frans, I think this should be proof that it is a good time to talk with Blue about REQUIRED REGISTRATION for the forums.
That is under serious consideration for a while already, though so far mostly because of the excessive profanity and general negativity that seems to go around this board lately. However, that atmosphere is not brought about only by anonymous users, registered ones are guilty of contributing to it as well. For that reason, we haven't decided yet whether disabling anon posting will make a worthwhile difference.

As for this particular situation with the leaked demo, that happened for SoF2 as well, and locking that thread until the official demo came out addressed that sufficiently. So regrettably, this thread is dangerously close to the same fate.

Sure thing, but it is not a warez site; it doesn't "have" the file.
Sites that post details on warezed files are just as much part of the warez scene as the ones that have the downloads.

Just lock the thread already, unless you really find this entertaining
It's mildly diverting so far but locking this thread is indeed what will happen if you guys keep pushing this over the line. We won't prevent you from talking about this thing altogether, but please don't post any links or even hints (however convoluted) to the warez sites that have the file.

Could be early 98 indeed. The first mention I could find in the old HTML archive is from April 12, 1998, but that means it's probably been in development since 1997.

News Comments > DOOM III Video
77. Re: Oh, and Blue... May 26, 2002, 21:24  Frans

..pulling the links may have been just a wee-bit too subservient to the powers-that-be. If the NY Times or Fox News or CNN gets their hands on something hot, they run with it.

If id doesn't want their media to get out to the public, they shouldn't show it publicly. And certainly a "news" site shouldn't quail from posting something that's actually news. If the industry would retaliate against you for doing such a thing, then you should report that, as well. That's news. It's not like you went to E3 and shot the footage yourself. You're just reporting it. It's id's bailiwick to get the video taken down if it bothers them.
They did. That's the practical reason the links were pulled, as at least three of the four sites we listed had pulled the movie. But due the movie's nature, I didn't feel compelled to hunt down new links to replace them either. In fact, that would only make those sites the target of a mail from id Software as well. The file is still out there, there's nothing we can (or would want to) do about that, you just have to look a bit harder for it now.

Well, I finally got around to viewing the Soldiers of Anarchy E3 trailer, and it features the SilverStyle logo, so it's officially confirmed after all. Go fig.

You imagine correctly. We've tried to get official confirmation of who is developing the game when it was announced, but they're apparently not ready to provide that yet. It's been conjectured that Soldiers of Anarchy is the new title for Natural Resistance / Natural Freedom / Unborn by German developer Silver Style though, but at this point that's off the record.

No wonder Aquanox is no longer with Fishtank
Correction: Fishtank was acquired by JoWood, so this title essentially moved with the first company's remnants into the second one.

PC and Xbox. That was covered before so I didn't think it was necessary to mention it again, but I updated the story now anyway. Here's the publisher's game page:

4. Re: Subscription services May 20, 2002, 23:23  Frans

Creole Ned:

I agree in general, but you seem to be overlooking the fact that there's one free movie. If any site posted one free movie (without additional clips requiring a subscription), we would report it too and nobody would be complaining about it, so I don't think we should be treating GameSpot differently just because they dangle a bunch of carrots in front of you and some of you don't like carrots.

9. Re: Previously known as May 14, 2002, 14:40  Frans

As reported here before, of course.
http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=32419
And before that it was known as Unborn, as the URL on Silver Style's site still indicates.

Anyway, when Simon & Schuster mentioned the developer, my first thought was of Natural Resistance/Freedom as well, but they haven't confirmed that yet. Also, they asked us to pull the screenshots we posted with the press release, but we hope to get something new soon.

Meanwhile, you can check some previous shots and a movie trailer at 3D Gamers </shameless plug>

16. Re: Mail Forum For Your Private Reading Only May 9, 2002, 18:40  Frans

Since you're having e-mail problems, why don't you setup a link on the front page to post e-mail news that otherwise would get lost, to a private forum that only you can read. That way when your e-mail server goes down, anyone can post news to your board. Just make sure that they have to login in to do it.
Interesting idea, but I'm afraid it's not that practical. A lot of the mail we get is from companies and other sites that use mailing lists, and they simply have the news@bluesnews.com address included as one of many. We certainly can't expect them to specifically visit our site and post, say, a press release into that forum, when a mailing list is so much more convenient to them.

Further, our mention of the temporary address yesterday in the news, and using it in the menu & title bars, is not really picked up by everyone visiting us and then sending in a story, as we got less than half the mail volume we normally get from people not using the aforementioned mailing lists. I guess folks often have the news@ address already in their address book, and old habits are hard to temporarily break.

Maybe everyone even gets used to posting news for your access only and it might even start taking a big load of your server.
Our mail is handled by a different machine than the rest of the site (and one we don't have direct access to, that's a big part of the problem). So using a submission forum on our website would actually add (however little) to our server load rather than reduce it.

Anyway, thanks for everyone's feedback, our mail server resumed its duties a few hours ago, so we'll be fine until the next calamity or until we move elsewhere (which is being worked on for some time already).

Triton was one of the teams within Scavenger, as far as I recall. And you could be right about them not releasing any games, as I think Amok and Scorcher were done by the other team(s). Ah well... the trips down memory lane.

Looks like you're talking about Scavenger. They did actually release two games to the best of my knowledge: Amok and Scorcher. And the other canned title I think you may be referring to was Spanish Blood.

3D Gamers has an info page on Scavenger and those two released games: http://www.3dgamers.com/companies/scavenger/
