The last line of text in a comment is at the bottom of the comment window, without any / with very little "padding" in between - it looks abrupt, and a little weird.
Not sure what you're getting at... which comment 'window'? 'padding in between' the comment and... what? The signature separator?

There's already some padding in that spot, 6 pixels of it, to be exact.

I don't know if this was mentioned before and I missed it...but I see the signatures are now updated to old posts if you make changes. Nice one!
Thanks, that is indeed the new-feature-of-the-day. W00t
there could be links added to the top of the list so we don't have to scroll down to click "Later/Earlier".
Done.
Better yet, could there be more per page, like a minimum of 25 or more, user selectable maybe?
They were already doubled from the original 5 per page a few months ago. Whether that is "enough" depends very much on the combined length of the posts. 10 seemed to work nicely, 25 is definitely too many. Selectable ain't going to happen, I'll see what Blue thinks of an intermediate number.
And could there be page #'s to jump through, rather than Later/Earlier.
Yeah that'd be better, and consistent with thread pagination, but will take some more time.
Search feature would be nice too, as sometimes finding something specific like mod info or links someone posted awhile back can be difficult to find.
I agree, I'll see what I can come up with.

That Elvis smiley needs more contrast. With the dark blue background here, you can't really make out the hair.
Yeah, and the Mr-T one suffers from the same problem, they were designed for light backgrounds. But I'm no artist so I'm not going to touch them up. Anxious

Yup. Which we already mentioned in April, so there was no need to repeat that.

The 'screenshots' I think you're referring to are shown in the artworks section of this site:

So I guess they were just renders.

I sure hope the freaks and geeks at 3dgamers do justice to the series.
How so? We didn't make the game, Red Lemon did.

12. Re: Mail server Jul 18, 2002, 15:06  Frans

Judging by the problems that this web site has had in the past, I'd say that bluesnews.com is running on a co-located box (Blue's machine inside the server room) but they're using their ISP's mail server.
Correct.
It wouldn't be difficult (although maybe not practical based on resource usage and/or OS installed on this web server) to set up a mail server on the machine to alleviate the mail problems,
We considered that indeed, but our main server (running the news database, web, ftp and .plan tracker) is regularly choking indeed, so we decided against moving our mail flow (flood, more like) there. Until a few months ago, that machine had a track record worse than the mail server.

The long-term solution is of course to move everything elsewhere, but unfortunately 'long-term' appears to be keyword there.

Unfortunately, we don't have control over the mail server, or the OS it's running. That's the big problem, otherwise this situation would have been addressed the first time it cropped up many months ago.

OK - - I emailed the stuff to Frans - - let's hope it helps!
Yep, it did. Your screen capture showed that a larger font than the default will wrap the text line below the logo into two lines, and that distorted the whole header resulting in the logo misalignment. That explains why only a few IE6 (or any IE, I guess) users were seeing a problem, and most weren't.

While in general we can't support large fonts well in the page layout, this was easy enough to fix by cutting down the text line into something shorter (though less inviting ;)). Thanks for the help.

4. Re: sorry, still broken Jul 13, 2002, 13:19  Frans

Can you mail me (fpv@bluesnews.com) the source code from your browser between the 'start global header insert' and 'end global header insert' comments (not the entire page)? And if possible a screen capture from the top area of the page? Then I'll try to figure out what's causing the misalignment and if I can fix it. Thanks.

20. Re: Still slightly broken Jul 12, 2002, 23:25  Frans

Interestingly enough, the only remaining problem I can find is is that the "BluesNews" Logo on the main page is slightly misaligned in the middle - - all other pages seem fine. I use IE 6.0.26
Ok, here's the story for those interested in a little HTML weirdness :): this was a known problem in NS6 and Mozilla, though I thought at first that I had it fixed in IE6. I battled it for a while last week, but eventually attributed it to some bug (possibly in the ad banner code itself) I didn't understand, and moved on to convert the rest of the site to the updated HTML code.

After today's reports, I had another look at it. The problem was situated around the table cell that holds the ad banner, but our HTML defines that the ad banner include and the closing cell tag are not separated by any whitespace, ie. <TD...><!--#include...--></TD>

This renders fine in all other browsers I tried (NS4, Opera5/6, IE5), so in Mozilla it finally occurred to me to view the source that the browser thinks it receives... and much to my surprise there was a newline before the </TD> tag, which causes the right half of the logo to be pushed down, and thus the misalignment.

So it looks like NS6 and Mozilla (and presumably IE6 too, but I can't test that as I'm sticking to IE5) have a rendering bug where they insert space after a long include line, which in turn causes the table cell misalignment. I found a work-around (the <TD>...</TD> container is now embedded in the include), and the problem seems solved.

Please let me know if you see any further anomalies, and thanks for everyone's feedback.
