At 44 links, this is almost certainly a new record for Hardware Reviews, yeah. No idea what the old one was as we didn't really keep track of that, but for Game Reviews we had a record 55 entries last year in December. It's unlikely we'll ever get that again though, since so many sites have shut down since. Of course, this list and today's Game Reviews are artificially enlarged due to our mail being down over the weekend, so we caught up to many of those links yesterday for this morning's lists.

Yep, the network connection is the culprit and this is being looked into by the datacenter tech guys. We're not the only site suffering from this problem and word we received from UGO is that this is their top priority. So here's hoping...
Your patience continues to be appreciated.

The server itself is running fine, at extremely low load. The board and .plans will always be a bit slower than the frontpage because the former are CGI scripts and the latter is a static .shtml page. The slowness is really due to the tiny connection we've been put on. Thanks for your suggestions though.

Why was the site completely down for two whole days? Couldn't they at least have put up a temp server saying the site was moving with an ETA posted? Unfortunately not, as the UGO datacenter was completely dismantled and everything in it moved at another one. It took them over two days to reinstate DNS at the new center, which is necessary for the site (be it temporary or real) to be accessible at all.
Why is the UGO icon still on the page? Because we haven't left their network, just their datacenter.

Just leave the downloads for the userbase of those closed sites. That applies to Shacknews, and this is indeed the first time I've added them to a mirror list, simply because they were the first mirror to go live and I wanted to provide more options for folks out there.
As for FilePlanet, there are a lot of people out there that already have registered there (either for free or as a subscriber) and they have a bunch of download servers, thus contributing to getting the file out to folks. Listing the link on our mirror pages is merely a small convenience to people wanting to use FP despite their registration.
We always list a reasonable number of other sites as well, so it's not like you're being forced to use FP, right?

So what countries use DSTime? Basically all of Western Europe uses DST - except it's called Summertime. DST is turned on at the last Sunday in March (first Sunday in April for the US, ie. one week later) and turned off at the same last Sunday in October (fortunately, as it used to be the last one in September, which messed up my work schedule for a month %)).

There's the FilePlanet that offers demos, patches, movies, etc. This requires registration for quite some time now, free or as a subcription. The "other" FilePlanet serves up the files from all the various Planet* sites and their hosted sites. This, I believe, required registration for a brief period as well earlier this year, but otherwise never did.

for the last few days I've noticed the list of people/times has not been changed... Indeed, we sorta noticed this late last week, but it completely fell through to cracks to track this down and fix it. Thanks for the reminder.
...somehow related to the search problems? What search problems?
