Actually, they uploaded the screenshots using double digit filenames (pic01a.jpg, 02, ... 09, 10, ... 24) but the flash thingy referred to them by regular numbers (1, 2, ...9, 10...) so the first nine links produced broken images. They've fixed their flash today indeed.

Re: half life updater |

I recently found out that, while we removed the version 1107 auto-updaters at Valve's request when v1108 came out, the auto-updaters for those are hard to come by and the game doesn't always retrieve the latest auto-updater automatically, as you've found out as well.
I've asked Valve for new copies of the latest auto-updaters (both Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and will put them back on Blue's and 3D Gamers once I've got them (might take until next week).
You sure choose an old story to attach that comment to, by the way.

In my experience, it really doesn't make a damn bit of difference what's put on the game's website. But in our experience, it does, and it's from that experience that Blue wrote his advice. You don't seem to have an idea how frantic early mornings are here, when the initial update is being compiled that contains many of the mod stories. Under that time pressure, there's little more frustrating than having to spend ten minutes figuring out what a mod is about and what it does. At that point, an email inquiry isn't going to help either.
There's basically two types of mod stories, those that we want to report about because we feel they're of interest to a significant part of our audience, and those that are mailed in because the author seeks publicity. The former mostly applies to the "big" mods but that still doesn't dismiss the author(s) from making it easier on anyone (not just us) wanting to find out about a mod to explain it on the site. For the latter, we do actually inquire when time permits, but in general I'd say that seeking publicity without explaining what for is just, well, rather short-sighted.

Re: Level 18 |

Hidden texts ahead
level 17: someone already provided a hint for this one, but another way to solve it is to place the refractor right above the right-most bulb.
level 18: here the fact that the double sided mirrors can also be passed by a beam down the middle is crucial, as is the refractor being passed through twice. More specifically: you have to go twice around the block.
Ok, time to tackle the final three levels.

It's not always "hefty", pay attention here son. It's a sliding scale: 30-60 MB is modest, 60-90MB is average (these days anyway), 90-120 MB is hefty, 120-150 MB is massive, 150+ MB is whopping. Glad it's not physical, this love thing of yours, btw.
Mirrors are added now, I do need sleep too, however unlikely that might seem.

my initial complaint wasn't as much about whether they were new or not, but the fact they'd spoiled the shots with their URL splattering True, can't argue with that. Most sites are modest in branding their shots, some... aren't. That just wasn't good enough a reason to skip this link precisely because, as you say, it was a convenient gallery for anyone who might have missed some of these shots.
Thanks for the kind words, of course.

Well, as it turns out, I was right the first time: the demo was corrupt at on NovaLogic's servers, and they replaced with a valid copy just now. Apologies to anyone that downloaded it there previously, I didn't check thoroughly enough why their first copy was corrupt (it consisted entirely of empty data X|).

Well, they may have got them from a press site, but the large versions of a number (AT-AT on desert world, for example) all have the Lucasarts logo stuff on them that matches the treatment given the shots on the official site's gallery. That's how LucasArts distributes their shots to press and (often) to gaming sites, you can't hold that against Worthplaying.
I hesitated long before including this link, and compared the gallery with the ones on the Station and GameSpot, and also checked SWG Vault (which didn't have a gallery, unfornately), and while there were matches for many images, there weren't for all of them. I couldn't compare them against LucasArts' site because their DNS is foobar-ed since last week and the site doesn't load for me most of the time. So there.
all the newspages say that Telefragged has special screens and you say they have just new screens ... but that's not true. It's one new screen. I don't know why you're bringing Telefragged into this, but read my post again: the word 'new' isn't even in there so your argument doesn't hold up - even though I trust you're correct as you're more familiar with the game than I am - because that's not why I included the link in the list.

No, these shots were distributed via a press-only site to lots of sites, and they were the first to post them. Some may have appeared on the official site (but they aren't there anymore, otherwise it would indeed have been a skip), over half I'm certain have appeared in various previews, but there were a few I didn't recognize (but that may be because they're really old). So they got a link "just to be on the safe side," but in general that is something I try hard to avoid.
