A lot of people can/will moan about MMOG's, but they do offer something that people want. Just because CS hasn't gone MMOG, doesn't mean the whole concept is bad. For whatever reason, people love this RPG stuff, so a lot of people are willing to play it in this environment. Personally, I'd pay for a game like Planetside... Except Planetside turned out to be a pile of cack, so that money's gonna be put to better use. I hear my ISP is offering 2mbit ADSL now...

Those BBFC ratings used to be quite rare, but they're turning up more and more. However, if anyone could pull their finger out and provide more than a small guide box on the back to guide parents, then the BBFC wouldn't be needed. Why do we not have an enforced rating system, suitable for the medium?

If we want people to take this medium seriously, then it needs to be treated seriously. If a game portrays violence, then there needs to be an age restriction.

At least with this, the parents can do something that they seemed to have never bothered to do before - Parenting. When they buy the game for their child, they: Know what their children are doing; Take control over what their children are exposed to; Actually talk to their children for once in their lives. Sometimes, it's not the government/media company/rap star/game developer that turned your kid into a mass murderer.

Well... It's totally free for those outside USA. Oh wait, aren't we still paying you back for WWII?

Macintosh??? Linux??? Come on Gates, I thought you would have bought the US Army out by now, and made this an X-Box exclusive.

1. European Release May 6, 2003, 10:18 changingman

I was hoping they'd announce something like this. Amsterdam is a good location too in terms of hops/speed. The release date isn't exactly ages after the US release, which is a bonus. I just might end up getting this game.

I just don't get any. Had 1 piece so far this year, which is actually a record. Maybe my ISP is filtering it all for me, I dunno.

Cinco de whato? If that's translates to 'Bank Holiday', then thanks. It's good to have a 3-day weekend in early May. Ah, 2 weeks until the end of my courses... No more education until September.

That's an interesting story actually. I can't really decide what to make of it, as while I agree that the news in the USA (from what we get to see of it) has been as he described it "gung-ho patriotism". However, why shouldn't it be? We don't really have anything to be patriotic about anymore, except for a monarchy and this damn rain that's come back now.

Good find, freddie.

3. Baby Teeth Apr 23, 2003, 10:20 changingman

My parents kept all my baby teeth in a little wooden pot, alongside my umbilical cord, with my baby book listing all the various facts about my early life (such as 3 pages of various illnesses they allowed me to get).

Yes, they're slightly odd.

16. Cold? Bah Apr 18, 2003, 11:27 changingman

It's a pleasant 19C here in London according to the Beeb. Seems warmer to me. Gotta love that heat-island effect.

Wouldn't be Britain without at least a small amount of rain on a bank holiday weekend, and according to the forecasts that long standing tradition will remain so.

Hopefully it'll be the return of everyone's favourite forgotten feature, the mailbag.

6. Re: Cool Apr 16, 2003, 10:33 changingman

There were few things about OFP that really let me down. The two fixed-wing aircraft were useless; going it alone felt against the style of the game; and commanding became a nightmare to a simple-minded grunt like myself.

Polish up those rough spots from OFP ('teleporting' in/out of vehicles, for example), and they've got a first class game right there.

OFP came before the hardware did. A sequel will thrive on the systems around now.

I have a strong suspicion that freddie here is a person I used to know a couple of years ago. I could totally expect him to behave in just this manner.

I can't wait until I get some abuse thrown at me from him. I'll print it out, frame it, and hang it on my wall.

Sounds like quite a treasured item... Shame it never actually got to the moon.

Gotta love them conspiracy theories. Think I'll go watch JFK now.

Unfortunately, these problems usually keep coming back again and again.

I think that it's sometimes freddie making posts that are copies of the 'REMOVED' post. Not sure. Maybe if the 'REMOVED' post used a colour that isn't available in the special codes list? I dunno. Doesn't seem like a whole lot can be done about freddy, though.

Someone's been brushing up on their HTML.

I'm on day 2 of 21 days off (Easter) and so far it's been both boring and cold. Not snowing cold, just don't want to stand outside for too long cold. Annoying.

16. Re: Star Trek Apartment Apr 4, 2003, 15:41 changingman

House prices here are quite phenomenal. It's not uncommon to see those prices for normal apartments of a similar size... Anyone looking to buy property around London will know how expensive it is, and why the Halifax is going to offer mortgages of up to 6x salary.

I think this is the apartment that was on TV when the BBC had a Star Trek night. If it is... it looked really good.

Why is it so damn cheap? That's the part that I couldn't understand. I would get one but I don't have any pocket space left, what with all the electronic gadgetry we seemingly can't live without.

7. Spam Mar 25, 2003, 13:38 changingman

Okay, there's been a lot of talk around here about spam over the last few weeks, and I was hoping someone would help me out. Can anyone recommend some spam blocking software to work with Outlook Express? Preferably free, and a small download (he's on 56k).

Spring? Bah, it's been warm for the last few weeks here. Got a wireless network now so I can sit outside and get on the internet.

Read an article on this in the paper today. We in the common room believed that no one will want to buy one from a bar due to the shame involved ("Ah, lover boy eh, got your eye on someone?"). Someone also said something about too many people having blind drink-induced sex... but we kicked him out the room.

I don't... It's always on too late. My dad stays up to watch it, but I guess that's the luxury of being able to work from home when he feels like. Shame I can't complete my A levels in the same way.
