They've admitted their screw-ups several times in the past, and the reason it's taking so long is because they keep jumping engines. I lost track of what engine they are lately, but if it's not one in very active development, like UE3 or a large in house engine team, it doesn't take long for your game to look dated. Nobody wants to release a dated game. That is why engine licensing is so huge these days. It's not cost or time effective to write your own technology on top of trying to make a game. You end up with inferior technology and more cost than say UE3. This applies mostly to the FPS genre. Other genres tend to still use custom engines more time than not, but FPS games are pushing the envelope more than other genres.

I can only hope Apple starts becoming a more serious competitor. It's better for the industry, and might(prob not) push Microsoft into trying not to suck so much ass.

The nature of the genre is to be a repetitive time sink. There's no way around it.

Seems reasonable. They probably want to cut prices before the supposed end of year 65nm revised 360 to try and clear stock of the current shit version.

I doubt there'll even ever be another format war because game media will become passé with downloading/subscription models becoming the norm. That won't happen until the US pulls its head out of its ass regarding broadband speeds. I think we lag the world in terms of broadband bandwidth capacity significantly.

Uh no. Leave the useless customization trash to Sim Ricer when someone gets around to making it. All I want is a fun arcade racer, which is what NFS used to be.

Supreme Commander is horribly CPU limited as is. DX10 could potentially reduce that a bit, but probably nowhere near spending that same time optimizing the game as a whole can, and for a much wider user base.

Don't buy it you fucking whiney cunt. Simple solution.
You can spin your bullshit about "FORCING you to buy HL2 and EP1" or you can accept that they are raising the price of EP2, TF2, and Portal, because that is all it is.
Consider the extra keys a bonus, and likely an attempt to simplify it for consumers and give them everything they need in one box, and not get home and realize they cant play what they bought without buying another game.
If you don't think Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life: Episode Two are worth your $50, then don't buy it. I plan on easily getting that much out of TF2 alone, I couldn't care less about the other shit. To each their own. I'm still waiting for Steam prices. Fuck retail.
