AO has been running for 11 years now. for the last 5 years or so they have had a small dedicated dev team of 10. now they are down to 8. which is more than enough to run a well established MMO with a decent player base. you can outsource for art assets, models etc these days pretty cost effective.
COH could easily have been run the same way and been fine for several more years. 8 million a year is more than enough to fund an established game, pay a small dev team, and pay for outsourced assets.
as for the comment below that says salaries were the issue? REALLY? one quarter could have easily paid for the salaries paid at prevailing wages in the industry and benefits. |

I really don't get it. I like the metro and I like the modern yet classic lines of the new look windows 8 has. reminds me of my old Amiga days. Mixing old and new is not a bad thing. Navigation under metro is far better and it does not feel like a phone or console.
The task manager is FAR superior to windows 7 as are all the progress indicators I have seen so far. I also like the pointer and navigation layout in file explorer. wireless seems quicker to connect and more stable.. not to mention easier to use.
And did I fail to mention again that this thing is FAST. Everything is much faster with windows 8 on the same hardware I was using with windows 7. memory management, screen management, application switching, file copying.. there is literally not a single negative or weak point I have seen yet. |

I'm using windows 8 right now. I think its awesome. Its really and updated windows 7 with a new user interface and its faster that greased lighting.
I'm surprised people hate it so much. I like it more and more every day. in fact going back to windows 7 and the older style start menu and controls seems dated and old to me now.
I don't have a single bad thing to say about it. |

oook... i dont know if its just me.... buuut... it looks like you didn't read the article at all. like.. not even one word of it. because the main point of the article is that this will help people learn to program.
people.. kids.. generally learn better when they are engaged in something that is visual and fun. |

Demonstrate that "Global warming" has anything significant to do with man.
Man could shut down every factory on earth today and never drive a single car again and the earth would continue to warm for the foreseeable future. Why? because it is being driven by solar cycles and magnetism both local and interstellar.
Anyone who takes the time to read the actual history of the warming and cooling cycles of the earth and compare with the known data will see instantly that the man made global warming claim is hogwash. Clearly we are having some effect, but its only a minor influence on the Natural cycles.
The USA will be just like Brittan and perhaps even worse within 10 years. so enjoy what freedom you have while you can. Or didn't you notice they have installed cameras on every corner of every major street even in very rural areas.

also i think the android version of minecraft that costs 6.99 has sold well over a million copies. i think it is something like 3 million or there about. the IOS version is probably at least that if not more.
That is some serious bling for minecraft. |

yeah, Tumbler i can kind of see your point. It is strange. anyone who helps them make the game, even at a 10$ price point should get the game period. since they are clearly looking at releasing this thing later via Steam and probably retail and making even more money.
pretty shaky stuff imo. |

Its completely obvious why this probably is TRUE.
Valve is thinking of getting into the console business. Merging with a company like Nexon would open the floodgates to the asian markets and give them a huge in on Korean/Chinese style games and content.
It is possible a move like this would catapult them past Sony/Microsoft in the console/game market by bypassing japan completely.

this is completely their own fault. You don't advertize a game as "the most amazing FTP game ever made" and how its going to "take over and revolutionize the FTP space" as i saw in many an early interview. Then crap all over your fan base by changing it to a full price game, with a monthly fee and a cash shop and expect to stay in business.
This is literally the DUMBEST thing i have ever seen a game company do to themselves. Then they fire the developers instead of the idiotic management that i am sure forced them to change the game from free to full subscription.
If they had stayed the course and continued to play up the hooplah about revolutionizing the FTP space i have no doubt the game would be doling very well and they would be making money hand over fist via the cash shop, or in having special pay only episodes/zones. similar to the way D&D does theirs. 5 bucks for 48 hour pass and you can buy them and give them to your friends so they can play with you etc..
but no... Funcom is filled with morons. (except on the tiny 10 man AO team that is still going strong)

I agree with the comments about the quality of the voice over. However.. i think the games graphics and game play look pretty nice.
Its attitudes like the one displayed below that are helping to ruin the game industry, destroy game studio independence, and drive the mega publisher funded glitter boxes of empty prettiness.
For a community funded game its turning out really nice and gets the job done. |

this one is still just crazy to me.. how the hck did kurt schilling go so wrong? he put in like 20 million and then they got another 75 million and they cant release an MMO in 5 years or whatever it was. the whole point he formed 38 was to make a freaking mmo. even a decent FTP mmo will make money these days.
i don't know why.. but this one actually makes me sad. probably because of the interviews with kurt i watched a few years ago. |
