I agree with you on the first point. It's bullshit to say you're treating all platforms equal and then playtest using a controller. Which controller btw?
The second point I think you're approaching too negatively. Let them try something new. Of course the player should still be in control of his actions. The addition of some cool moves that are performed when the environment provides it without the player having to push some kind of insane sequence or combination of keys is a noble goal to me. It doesn't have to be as gameplay numbing as auto aim. |

They're killing off their original fanbase, which made Doom3 more than a complete dud. If their game is good enough, then great for them! If it's not, and they would have relied on the mapping and modtools for success - then they're fucked.
I have enjoyed mapping in Doom3/Quake4 in the past, but am now out of it. Still sucks they're killing this great learning tool for new developers off. |

Problem is that it's not up to us, it's up to companies wether they will implement this for security, payment or anything else for physical identification. Now it's unclear wether this technology is merely insecure, which is bad, or also dangerous to my health, which is worse. I guess my next pocket calculator will be a Casio, or are they also involved? |

And to blatantly state that the Crysis engine is superiour to tech5 is so uninformed its not even funny. From what I've seen of tech5, there's no way to tell if it's superior to Crysis. This means exactly that: the demo could have been compiled so fast and released in such a crappy format that the details that were there couldn't be seen. It is a bit sad because Crysis has now been out for, what a year? And Rage isn't anywhere near to being released. |

This is why I switched from Windows 2000 to Ubuntu a few months ago.
From what I experienced, Vista is even worse than XP; slower, 'secure' being an eufimism for just limiting the user.
Ubuntu isn't perfect, hell at some points it outright sucks (drivers, drivers, drivers, also: genome sucks). The thing that keeps me on it, and makes it 50x more comfortable to use than XP or Vista is the fact that it takes the user seriously: you can do anything you want, if you can.

I liked the single-player part of this game, but the MP seemed like a shallow imitation of Quake III. Minus the atmosphere.
It's a wasted effort to release a demo, which is not compatible with the retail version. It means that the one or two people who will try this demo will be alone on their server. Great marketing.

It's pretty obvious gamers don't want to have a horrible os shoved down their throats, much less have a non-free notworking platform shoved along with it. And I can understand the idea that Microsoft is hurting the pc market by doing this.
At some point, you have this kid with an xbox360 and a brand new vista pc. Which is he going to use to do gaming on? Right.
Wether microsoft is doing this to kill pc gaming intentionally, I don't think so. Gamers are the ones pushing pc technology. This enables them to output more software, and do things like the DX10 chokehold.

I just heard that the pc version of Halo had terrible performance, graphics, and needed a lot of patching to get to run decently. That, and being that when coming from a dumbed down control scheme, a game has to be pretty much redesigned to be any fun on a pc. But I wish Epic good luck, and wish them a decent character designer that doesn't make his characters suffer from obesitas.

Well, from a technical standpoint, the engine may be able to match Doom 3. From an artistic point, D3 definitely had better graphics. Agreed. It's hard to tell this way, Doom3 had a higher production budget for the artwork.

flipping You should say 'fucking' if you want to say 'fucking'.
BTW, I agree. What's this guy talking about, Gore 1?
the AMP II engine demo released a couple years ago was graphically on a similar level to enhanced Q3 or Fear. You can still download the demo and see for yourself. Well to me it looked most of all like the Doom3 engine, maybe that's a typo? q3 == d3? Wether it was really that good or not, I don't know. But the game's design was so atrocious I feel the engine has never gotten a fair chance to show its power.
