News Comments > PC MW2 Outsells CoD4
32. Re: PC MW2 Outsells CoD4 Nov 21, 2009, 09:49 sc4r4b

With the news earlier in the week that the game made 550 million in the first five days, I said fuck it and bought it. A fellow clam-mate also harassed me for several days. Nothing like peer pressure.

Being a huge fan of the other games the news that they wouldn't be supporting the community was a HUGE let down.

That said, I like the MP a lot. I wanted to hate it but it's good. Yes, no lean sucks and it feels like a step backward. Yes, no dedis blows. But in the end, I still like it and I hate myself a little for it...

Glad I changed my mind. Now bring on the hate!

News Comments > New MW2 PC Petition
24. Re: New MW2 PC Petition Nov 16, 2009, 11:59 sc4r4b

Yeah, I do not see any point in this. IW doesn't care nor do they think the signatures on the first petition are legit.

"All I can say is that we changed it to make it a better and easier experience. Also, not all of the names on that list are legit," said Infinity Ward, when talking about the MW2 server petition and downplaying the significance of its 178,000 signatures.

"402 signed it 4 times I heard," adds IW's Mackey McAndlish, while also revealing that, "Games cap out at 9v9. The software has great latency tolerance."

I have gone back to CoD4 and I also played a little BF2 this weekend. I'd really like to see BF2 and CoD4 mashed together. Hopefully Bad Company 2 will deliver.

And it looks like Amazon removed all of the negative comments. How lame.]

Gamestop did as well...

Even the IW has been quoted saying that all of the signatures on the petition are not real.

I like how people talk about a subject long enough that they begin to abbreviate the words. "dedis"

What can I say? You are correct. It has been quite the topic as of late and you knew exactly as to what I was referring to.

I love all the hate from people NOT playing the game, who have no idea how good or bad it is.

"But I just know no dedis means lag and blah blah blah"

No, you don't. Everyone playing it seems quite happy with it, only those not playing it are still pissed off.

Wouldn't it have been nice to have a DEMO so we could really check out IWnet?

And "Everyone" really? That's quite a lot did you take a survey or are you pulling that figure out of your ass?

As in my previous post it's not just about the dedis. For me not buying the game is a matter of principle.

There is no way in hell this game would be enjoyable with more then 18 players on ANY of the maps.

As for lean? Oh well get over it, and what mods exactly came out for MW1? Or Map packs that were used by people on a regular basis?

Yeah, get over it... "we didn't balance for lean." That snide remark shows how much they care about the PC.

I have 35 mods in my CoD4 mod folder. The ones I played the most were on my clan server are Gun Game, Obscurity, AWE, and Open Warfare. AWE added a lot of stuff you see in MW2. Also,I know a lot of clans liked ProMod. Not me, but why take away choice?

I could play the stock maps all the time but I have clan mates with ADD. Having custom maps was a bonus for them. Not to mention I have been known to map in Radiant. It's a hobby I enjoy just as much as gaming and they took it away from me with this version.

In the end IW/Activion lied. This is about money and controlling the game so they can profit. That's fine because that's their business but don't fucking lie about it. I hate liars and I won't support them.

65. Re: MW2 Sells 4.7M Nov 12, 2009, 18:31 sc4r4b

At some time, we will all realize that the vocal minority has nearly zero impact on game sales. All the complaining does absolutely zero to their bottom line. The people complaining about all the lost features are still going to buy it...face the facts. Infinity Wards can do whatever they want because they can. Note the insane price. Heck, they should have gone for $100.

Not me. You know what though, if MW2 had all the features IW took out they could have charged a 100 bucks and I would have bought it!

I have been chastising a couple of co-workers who picked it up for the Xbox. It's been fun!

I don't necessarily want or need them to be exclusive. Why not let everyone experience good times?

Good point. I should have said that it used to be that FPS games were ported from PC to console. Now it's vice versa.

It is the new standard... Already the PC has had the following FPS console ports in the last couple of years.

  • Far Cry 2

  • Rainbow 6 Vegas series

  • Operation Flashpoint:Dragon Rising

  • Red Faction:Guerrilla

  • Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood

  • Frontlines: Fuel of War

  • Solider of Fortune: Payback

  • Turok

  • Borderlands

  • Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2

  • I could go on...

How many exclusive AAA FPS games has the PC had since the 360 and PS3 were released? Two maybe three games?

Yeah, the port thing was frustrating to say the least. Once I got the GameSpy ports open i was good. Funny how those ports were not listed in the readme along with the game ports.

It would be nice if they added a crafting perk... Like make your own weapons after you complete the game or something.

I'd also like to see more PvP stuff.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying this game.

Everything I have read on forums so far shows people are actually quite pleased with the multiplayer. I see a lot of "oh, nevermind, it's good!" comments.

I don't need to read any of the positive comments nor do I need to play the game to be able to tell that I would be disappointed with the multi-player considering the features and options removed from previous versions of the game, not to mention the price increase.

It will but not with this game. The preorder numbers are record breaking. Some stores are sold out of the preorder, because they had over 300,000 copies preordered.

This game sales will probably blow chunks on the PC but Activision makes up for it on the consoles, which is where they make their money anyways. Too bad for PC gamers.

I know... I know. And the PC sales will be good too. Already MW2 is number 4 on steam for the week and I bet it reaches number 1 before Friday.

Activision and IW will be laughing all the way to the bank while they give the hardcore PC gamers the finger.

Networking: The switch to a P2P system is dumb. However from IW's standpoint it makes it easier for them to control cheaters rather than having to rely on 3rd party software (PunkBuster) that is easily bypassed.

This remains to be seen. Most people don't think That VAC is any better. And to be honest I only saw a handful of cheaters in CoD4 over the past 2 years I played. If we had dedicated servers Admins could kick/ban the cheaters quickly.

Avg. Ping: A good point, but keep in mind a dedicated server's low ping is entirely reliant on the quality of the server alone. There are good servers and bad servers.

True, but isn't it nice to be able to choose where you play?

Console Commands: Who really uses these anyway? I haven't used console commands since CS 1.3, it's a non-issue.

I do, the default FoV sucks and it's nice to change my name/clan tags on the fly.

Lean: A nice feature, but it wasn't all that useful in COD4. I won't miss it.

That's your opinion. Why remove something that had been in since the forst game?

Custom Maps: 99.9% of custom maps suck balls. Every once in a while there comes one really well done, balanced, fun map... but the majority of the time they're just imbalanced crapfests that the makers usually design for stat padding (see: TF2).

After playing the same maps for 2 years you'll wanna try some custom maps. Of course now you will have to BUY new maps

64 vs 18 players: 64 player COD4 was retarded. The majority of the maps weren't designed for 64 players, or even 32 players. Assuming MW2 will have the same general map size, 18 is a fine number.

I agree stock maps had an 18 player sweet spot BUT if there were custom maps that were larger they would support more players.

Competitive mods: See: maps. 99.9% of player mods suck ass, and are usually just stat changes that don't really add anything to the game.

Ever try Gun Game or Obscurity? Two great CoD4 Mods that my clan played.

Mod tools: Well, without mod tools that goes without saying.

Yeah they don't want people making any cool maps that would cut into their profits.

Ability to record: How often have you felt the need to record match? I haven't ever.

I did on more than one occasion... I guess I'm a dork. I know a lot of clans do it for competition though.

Kick/ban cheaters immediately: This is the only legit complaint in the list, IMO.

    Only legit concern? Orly?

    Profiles saved online: Non-issue.

    I didn't ask for that...

Manually select server to join: I'm assuming this is on there as an argument for wanting to play with friends, I imagine there will be a way to play in a game with your friends.

Yeah ever try to play say L4D with friends that are spread out across the country or continent? It sucks...

Control bad language: Seriously, what the fuck?

Right! I fucking hate those servers.

0 ping advantage for host: Data sent to the host is still limited by client pings.

    Pings over 80 suck IMO.

    Lan play: Non-issue.

Free demo: Let's face it, if you've played 1 COD, you've played them all.

    True.

Price: This is a valid argument, though I'm buying the 360 version anyway so I don't really care.

This is all really about the money. Thats why we lost mod support and why they didn't spend more time on the PC version and made it a straight port. In the end Activision is just greedy and I hope it bites them in the ass.
