51. Theory on Why PC performance is poor... Dec 2, 2003, 23:28 jm0ris0n

OK, when you look at the facts regarding the games performance, all one can do is scratch his/her head.

Fact 1: Xbox = P3 733 + Windows2000 + 64MBDDR + GF3 on steroids (DX8) = 640x480@45~30fps (I am reaching here)

Fact 2: PC = 2800+/2.8Ghz + Windows2k/XP + 1024MBDDR + Fx5900/9700/9800 (DX 8 or 9) = 800x600 @45~30fps if lucky

Conclusion:

A) Developers were smoking crack and this engine was programmed by a grasshopper.

b) The 'unreal technology' this game uses is not the engine powering UT2003/2004/Unreal2 but rather it is the Unreal Warfare engine! heavily modded.

There is no other explanation for the performance differences. And the above quoted numbers for the PC are highly optimistic (I got about 25~30 fps @1024x768 with fx5900@5950 speeds+2.1Ghz Athlon+1GBram@209fsb). There is no way 'higher rez textures' which I believe is the only real graphics difference IS has stated for the record (please correct me if I'm wrong)can amount for such poor performance.

Anyone have any other ideas ?

This is a very well written review. It gave me hope for the game. Still, that demo was quite scary and it'll take a nice 24.99 pricetag before I would pick this one up.

I'm sorry, but this demo was just not my cup of tea. In fact it has me really upset.

i can come to one and only one conclusion: as a demo, the deus ex 2 demo released today sucks. Nothing to it. No explanation. Plain and simple it stunk.

Poor frame-rate, lackluster eyecandy, poor overall presentation, just doesn't sit well with me.

Heck I rarely get motion sickness, but after 15~25 minutes with this game I got it.

MY system doesn't suck either. FX5900+2.1Ghz athlon ain't to shabby a rig. I hate this demo, wished I never would have played it. Bah, Bah, Bah. Ruined my gaming night. Bleh, time to law down for a bit. Booooo, Booooo, booooo

I played it for like 3 minutes. I am short on time (girlfriend is here), but I would like to say the performance wasn't the best. Will try the resolution thing though

Athlon @2.09Ghz (209MHZ fsb), 1GB pc3200, FX5900 @460core/970memory.

Hehe. Those Eidos boards are now moving nice and slow

It'd be nice to see something released tonight, but I kinda have my doubts. Aren't demos usually released on fridays ? Sometimes around noon'ish ?

I too was a beta tester (our NDA was lifted today ) and if you have ever enjoyed myst in your life you owe it to yourself to check this one out.

If you hate myst, but you like amazing eye candy, you too owe it to yourselves to check this out. Its a good one

I am looking forward to this after playing the demo again. A fx5900 should be arriving sometime late next week, so that will be a nice upgrade from my ti4400

I too hope each 'stage' in the demo is not considered a 'level' ala, we just played 2 of the 10 missions that are in the game. If that is the case then this game will be really short.

The baddies are much smarter, and a lot harder to kill. Head shots aren't as easy, and I have never had to master the 'hide behind a ledge and peek out to kill bad guys approach before' . It was fun. Look forward to this and my fx

I can see myself picking up jack for $20 @ bestbuy if it is released at that price first week.

This demo was insane in some places! So many bad guys, but just the right amount of health and ammo. Really different than NOLF, but still entertaining.

I felt myself just wanting to beat the level, so I could get to the story. Kinda sad really when I valuse the story/cutscenes more than I do the actual game

As an expansion I guess they couldn't do much more, but I hope next year I can play an adventure as Ms. Kate Archer, instead of Jack
