Maybe I'm just being horribly stupid, but I'm looking forward to Duke Nukem Forever and Half-Life 2, whenever they might come out.

The delays could mean that either game could turn out to be a horrible mockery (*coughdaikatanacough*) of their parents. But so could a quick rush job to satisfy the unrelenting hunger of the gameless hordes.

Why not judge a game when it is actually released, whenever that might be? It can't hurt you in the slightest to keep an open mind.

I'm guessing that Blizzard will mail WOW CD's for free, like they did with WarCraft III.

it would just impart a larger sense of scale if they modeled an entire state instead of just a city...

So you would desire a larger sense of scale rather than one quality city? I dunno about you, but in VC taking two minutes to drive somewhere was quite alright, imagine driving for 30 minutes in GTA: Sense of Scale to get to the next available mission.

Yes, the demo sucked. With most things set up in 'X-Box Mode' and other errors, it seems like some guy in marketing decided to rush the demo out quickly. Up until a day or so before the demo was released, I kept reading that the demo would be out December 7th or so.

After playing through the demo once and absolutely loathing it, after applying the tweaks and playing through it a few more times I grew to like it.

I just don't believe it will be as great as we were lead to believe, but few things are.

Polygon models, color lightings, etc. I can't handle pixelized sprites. :(

Really? I tried playing Doom with the polygon models, and I thought it was horrible. I always found the anti-aliased/bilineared sprites to be a much preferable option.

That game was awesome. I only played the demo, but I remember having to turn all details off (even textures!) in order to play splitscreen at all.

if all games were as bad as these people make them out to be PC Gaming wouldn't exsist.

I think its a perception thing. Most gamers can easily decide whether a game is good or bad. Having played a ton of games, you tend not to be easily amused by repetitive environments and the like. You start to become jaded.

So casual gamers will buy 'bad games' and be happy with them.

But in other areas, like music, I honestly can't tell you a good song from a bad song, a good band from a bad band. If they're in the same genre, they sound pretty much the same to me. I like Linkin Park, which I hear is a pretty genericly stupid band.

I was hoping for an action game with an evil aquatic mammal protagonist when I saw the title.

I bet this has more to do with the sudden delay than anything else. Valve probably considers the game "done" (hence their recent comments that the delay was untrue), but Vivendi is really concerned that it won't run well on the majority of systems out there.

Uh, Valve has been saying since the beginning the the minimum system requirements are a 700 MHZ CPU with a DirectX 6 (maybe 7?) video card. It won't look anywhere near as good as on a better system, but it will run at an acceptable frame rate.

But then again, with this last-minute delay, maybe Valve wasn't trustworthy about the requirements either.

Anyway, check out Planethalflife.com , they just posted a mini-editorial suggesting that the delay is just due to developmental causes (i.e. the game isn't done) rather than some outside force causing Valve to delay it. Seems reasonable.

3Drealms got so full of themselves and bragged and boasted for so many years that they ticked off a lot of people, and since the game still hasn't come out they are an industry joke.

Um... wtf? I've been following DNF's development ever since it was announced, and I don't remember anybody bragging or boasting to a degree that's above the norm. Sure, the two previews in PC Gamer over the years were enthusiastic, but I don't remember those ticking anyone off, or being overly boasting.

You could also prevent "bots" from autosubmitting people's forms by displaying a GIF image with a code in it they are forced to type into a blank field in order for the form to submit.

Well, the read-the-funky-letters-image technique doesn't work for Yahoo/Hotmail/etc... the hardcore spammers just hire workers for minumum wage to look at images all day and type what they see.

"One problem I predict we'll be seeing is that as the robots here get more complicated they can only get larger."

Technology almost always gets smaller with time...

Think about it. Eniac was huge. The first cell-phones were bulky. The first TVs were huge compared to their screen size... a 5" display was the size of a current 21" TV or thereabouts. The problem seems to be making things too small (like those dang tiny Nokia phones) rather than too large.

I can't think of one electronic-era technology that has gotten bigger with more features packed in... maybe you can, but I can't.

Oh, and Blue, for something very disturbing, see this:

Some people have way too much time on their hands...

From Mark Rein's statement, it appears that there will be fees to play Unreal Championship online. Yes, "neither Epic nor Digital Extremes, nor Infogrames" will be collecting fees, but Microsoft will. So, if you want to pay Unreal Championship online, you will have to pay Microsoft $10 a month (or whatever the decide on). That sounds like a fee to me...

It is an obvious satire, and was intentionally hilarious.

Ever read "A Modest Proposal"? The author of it didn't really want the people of Ireland to eat their children (even though he did offer it as a solution to the starvation caused by the potato famine)...
