News Comments > PC Gaming Rebounds?
67. Re: No subject Apr 26, 2007, 20:55 Halo

I play MMOs as a single player unless a real life friend of mine connects.
See I use games to get away from the morons of life. I don't want to connect to ANOTHER world filled with the same kinds of people.

Honestly PCs in a MMO are just the same annoying people in real life, they:
Get in the way, try talking to you about nothing, slow you down, do something to infuriate you, act like they need to be noticed or seem important, etc etc.

That's why I have a love for single player games

PS one was a great machine. Two was and still is one of the greatest consoles to come out. Three is still looking dull, and most people are saying it should have came with a Blue-Ray remote rather than a game controller.

Not really anything special. Kinda removes the blur. A little update. This kind of "mod" comes out for every game.

Even if it didn't have the title in the link nobody would really know what's the difference is.

I stopped playing this and installed System Shock 2. I wanted a FPSRPG (lol) but this game didn't do it for me. It was fun for a bit and done alright, but wasn't what I wanted. I couldn't stand the fact that the only thing that made your character any better was gear. I found no depth in the game. There was make believe depth, like how you became more accurate as you got better gear. You could be a stone cold killer, a death defying bullet dodger, and a master at stopping the evil-will of others. But you still couldn't shoot a handgun better than an 4 year old.
YAWN.
Nice try though, really it was, I could see what you were trying to do. Hopefully this sells enough to put out a sequel game that lives up to it's hype and adds some more USEFUL features.

2. Re: No subject Apr 24, 2007, 19:58 Halo

Yes in a way it can be related to max payne as a 3rd person shooter(TPS) But it's the acrobats that are supposed to make it different. It's not longer just shoot dives, and jump dodges. It's having full control over what ever you're around. Kicking over tables, running up/on/over/through objects, stunts. Here's the fomula.
Max Payne + Tony Hawk - Skating = Strangle Hold.

Simply put it's John Woo directing a game. So expect a lot of "one off" moves and level based kills. Not the usual Bullet time jump from corner, bang bang bang. Reload; grenade bullet time jump forward, bang bang bang. real time killing bang bang bang ect. Max Payne 2 made up for the simple game play by adding a Noir story that kinda made you feel involved like a movie.

That's what I saw atleast through footage. Every level was a different strat, not just use stunts over and over to complete goal. Should be fun if you like the Blood Opera theme.

After the bashing is completed we will then begin to compare it to every other FPS released in the past 10 years!

I'm glad I don't get a itchy vagina like most people when it comes to consoles. People go all nuts about features and "zOMgS t3H grAPHICS!!" I just play games I think are fun. Doesn't matter if it's Zelda, or MGS4, or what. Society makes me sick, I mean who honestly givse a shit enough about video game systems to argue about it like you're a stock holder in the company?

Just ask yourself. "Do I really give a shit? What's the benefit?"

Glad this is a PC game forum where the only real fanboi banter that shows up is AMD/Intel ATI/Nvidia. Where once again who gives a shit?

Never assume.

Also in X-com the map was black until you explored it with a PCs line of sight. can't tell in the screen shots if it's been fully examined or if the darkness has been removed for the sake of the shots.

I really like the Combat Mission series; this new take looks very promising I'll try it when I get home. I'm used to turn based action though, but due to the size of these skirmishes I don't think running in real time will be that bad. I found this trailer online, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyCbwNqT98o
I loled.

As opposed to what Joss?

For a turn based strategy why wouldn't we want a good view of the action? an FPS would be a horrible idea, 3rd person? maybe but you couldn't really plan too far ahead, and a straight overhead view is really lacking in terms of visuals.

If you were a highly advanced task force bent on keeping the planet safe from invaders you THINK you might have the resources to pull up detailed maps of the areas that your missions would be in. If not they will hopefully add in blind spots(a black map) and fog of war to increase "realism."

Anyways for other X-com fans is you have the means, I'd recommend RebelStar Tactical Command for the Gameboy Advance. It's made by some of the X-com guys and is basically the same game but only combat based.

yeah a slow paced sub MMO would, get this... SINK!

But really MMO's need to be action imagine singing on, hunting alone for 30 minutes not finding anything, then you have to go do something. =\

BTW, can somebody point me in the direction of other good war sims, realtime type games like this.

Mouse support in a computer game is so trendy let us go back to the good old days of 1980.

65. The apples and oranges taste sour now. Apr 14, 2007, 00:18 Halo

Can we change to something more constructive than comparing Oblivion to Fallout?

What does everybody want to see in FO3? Like plot wise what do you think is gonna happen?

I kinda had a cool idea that maybe the Brotherhood of steel has grown and grown, and now technology and science are back on track. Underground farming and cities have become common and the furture is looking better.

BUT wait there's a whole resistance against the BOS thinking that if we start back on the same path of science and technology that civilization will once again become war mongers. The people liking the new simpler way of life will stop at nothing to end the BOS and their path to destruction, stopping history from repeating itself. This time possibly killing the rest of the Earth for good.

Now you the new hero, I was kinda grey on this area but maybe your vault suffered a major cave in and when it opened all that you saw was stacked rock. This would be the "training" area of the game where you learn the basic controls and what not. But during a mining expedition by a nearby town they uncovered your vault. and now your free to enter the world and the war between the two factions.

No idea on a main quest though. I'm guessing you pick a side a little while into the game, after hearing both sides of the story, and then recieve a main quest.

54. Re: No subject Apr 13, 2007, 20:49 Halo

Fallout was more of an invisable path. Everything you did put you in the right direction you just had a LOT of options to move along. Depending on your skill and luck is how quickly you progressed.

If you attempted getting on the Oil rig at LVL1 you'de be gibbed, shot in half, set on fire, aired out, beat to death, or ripped into pieces half way there.

My roommate beat the main quest in oblivion at lvl 3. because he never leveled up. Sure there's a lot of Elder Scrolls history here and there, but nobody cared enough to actually read it unless you were a big fan of TES.

I wasnt a big fan of fallout when I first heard about it but I caught myself going, "Oh I remember hearing/reading about that." As if it was local news in my home town. Really pulled me into the game, I felt my character was actually a hero and not some PC who ran around getting Ph@t l00t!!1

I miss Theme Hospital, This looks to have the same feeling going on judging by the graphics. Maybe I should figure out how to get it running in XP.

I think I'm going to load up SS2 again with the graphics update.

Nuclear fallout and amnesia, That's not exactly top quality story material right there unless you're doing a summer blockbuster movie.

The game is fun though, the only immersive part would the dark, quiet, spookiness that is the underground. The story draws you in a little but in an opened ended game the story comes together near the end, and not during most of the game where you care more about getting cash and quests done than the story.

LOL, I'm sorry that I brought those up earlier. I was comparing them in the fact that they are NOT straight FPSs, and have more to do then run down hallways holding down the left mouse button.

This game is nowhere near the level of them. There really is no other game like SS2(SS1?) or DE that's what makes them so special.

Sure this game is fun and different because it's an FPS where you pick your own adventure. I see the term "Oblivion with guns" a lot and that may soudn pretty good but atleast oblivion has character development.
I'de rather call the game "Far cry with quests" it's not as pretty as far cry but at least you play at your own pace and not how quickly you run through the level.

So once again this game is like the rebound girlfrien of SS2 and DE. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but it'll do till something better comes along.
