At least this time, if Obsidian releases another buggy game the mod community can change most or all of the game to fix it (for the PC version at least). Kind of the plan Bethesda had with Oblivion and Fallout 3.

Yeah, nobody ever mentions the most common perk of living past 60 is being stuck in a nursing home so your kids can feel like you're taken care of without having to actually bother themselves with it. If you don't believe in human euthanasia, working a month at a nursing home (Catholic especially) might change your mind.

Wonder if this will unbreak Spacebuild2. Though nothing tops the time Garry broke sandbox.

Yes, this makes perfect sense since piracy does not exist on consoles. Rolleyes

The study is hilariously flawed, since they only studied EA Sports titles. I'm sure everyone expects to see advertisements at a stadium so they blend right in at a stadium in a video game. Seeing a Verizon commercial in a survival horror game, on the other hand...

Pretty sure this is set 20 or so years before the JDAM came about. In other words, this is the Soviet Union's conflict in Afghanistan. Apparently nobody can take on the mountains and win.

News Comments > Valve Courting Minecraft Developer?
24. Re: Valve Courting Minecraft Developer? Aug 31, 2010, 01:47 Narf2029

Ok fine, I bought it.

Some reasons I bought it, pasted from the minecraft page:
•You never have to pay again!
You get all future versions of the game, including all expansions and addons.
...
•Once you've bought the game, it's yours. No DRM.

I like never having to buy anything again, and getting all expansions. I REALLY like no DRM.
Not only that but the early adoption price is supposed to be half of the final price. You really can't lose if you like sandbox games even a little bit.

The guy coding at his desk is probably trying to pay the bills, yes. The investor that fronted him and his friends a shitload of money wants a lot more than the bills paid, whether that is a reasonable expectation or not. I fail to see how my pointing this out means I have an unrealistic sense of entitlement. If anything, I am speaking against that sense of entitlement often found in investors today.

I don't really feel their pain. Anyone with half a neuron knows the only thing that has any chance of knocking WoW out of the top spot is something else made by Blizzard, and anyone willing to gamble millions to the contrary... well, a fool and his money are soon parted. You don't have to have the expectation of beating WoW to make an MMO, but to make the money printing machine these investors often/always expect, you would have to.

I don't see how anyone could really have thought they'd find success in charging fees for what millions of people currently get for free. I played the beta and that was it for my interest. If it were free to play I might have picked it up when the price dropped but having to pay to play an ultimately average game just wasn't that appealing.

It's my understanding that the court awarded the $88 million since the defendant did not show up. Maybe the default judgment by law is a bit over the top but that's not Blizzard's fault.

I'm almost afraid to keep wishing for Relic to do Homeworld 3. If they make that a concurrent console release, I think I might just die of sadness. Bigcry
If Relic whittled their scope down any more, as seems to be their theme with each successive game, you'd control the food replicators of one ship.

Funny you should put it that way, since that's exactly when I plan to get it - when it's the $50 all-in-one Game of the Year edition. If that never happens, oh well.

Hardware - You have it backwards. Hardware is the REASON PC gaming is superior, not the reason it isn't. On top of this console gamers have this crazy idea that if you don't spend $1500 on hardware upgrades every six months you won't be able to play any games that come out anymore. This is wrong. If you spend the money on a high end system it will be powerful and capable of running every game for several years. If you don't want to upgrade, take it to a reputable place and have them upgrade it. Simple as that.

I just did an upgrade for around $200 and I still haven't found a game that I can't run in full detail. As long as you don't want a computer that can sequence your genome overnight and you keep your eyes open for sales and deals it's easy to afford a powerful rig.

Source is certainly more friendly for the end-user. You could probably fish computer parts out of a dumpster and build a rig that could run a Source game in full detail.

I can see this game law being struck down as unconstitutional, but for the first time the effort will waste the taxpayer money (which is supposed to be in short supply) of twelve states simultaneously. If politicians had to personally pay for the money wasted on trying to push unconstitutional laws, maybe they would stop doing it. Maybe they would even become knowledgeable about the issues they are crusading against and how the law works. Yeah... Maybe I'm a Chinese jet pilot.
