Fuck 3D. I get enough regular headaches just watching regular TV. The last time I tried to watch something in 3D I got a migraine so bad I was babbling for hours and I stabbed myself in the leg with a dinner fork. I'd bet 90% of the people who say they get migraines don't - the pain from a real migraine can make you do some crazy shit.

Same day delivery from Amazon would be great by me. I use Prime and I already check on Amazon before I go out to buy something in a store. Unless I desperately need it, I can afford to wait two days and get it sent right to my door with no shipping fee per order, no taxes, and all my gasoline stays in my car. I got Prime mainly to try out their digital viewing (which is kind of sparse right now in my opinion but it's still new I guess, though it is cheaper than Netflix in the long run) but just the other day I ordered a $10 mouse because my last mouse was wearing out. A $10 item shipped to me in 2 days for nothing beyond what I already paid for Prime. I thought of going to Micro Center but with taxes and fuel costs, that would've become a $15 mouse at least. Instead of waiting until I have a few things I need from a given store (and probably talking myself out of one or two), I just get them from Amazon as the need, and occasionally the want, arises now. It's insidious.

I think it's great, if a tad unstable. So far, turning off gibs fixed that for me. I forget what it's actually called in the menu, and I have no idea why gibs would make the game crash after every second map load, but whatever, it works.

The only thing that worries me so far is how much stuff is available for purchase with actual cash. The game isn't even out of headstart yet.

Railworks is absurdly expensive. I think it would actually be cheaper to buy miniature trains and build model environments for them. I bought a car (used, obviously) for less than the full price of Railworks and all its DLC.

Yep, has nothing to do with how their relatively virus-free state earlier was due to their market share being beneath notice before. No sir.

1. Black female protagonist in Assassin's Creed: Liberation Jun 3, 2012, 18:22 Narf2029

They call that black? I'm sorry but that just makes me think of a room full of old white guys in suits where someone pitched the idea of a "colored person" to broaden their user base, but they lost their nerve when they were about to go past the tanned-white-girl mark. Maybe she'll look different in the game but it just seems like a half-effort.

SR3 is good but I liked SR2 better. I never had any of the port problems though, aside from the one where your steering would stop without warning but even that only happened occasionally. Probably liked it for the personalization options. I remember feeling distinctly disappointed when I realized I'd seen all the clothing options and whatnot in SR3. Felt like I was only halfway there but that was it. SR3 definitely wins on the vehicle front though. The STAG vehicles are all great fun.

4. Re: Valve Confirms Hardware Plans Apr 13, 2012, 10:11 Narf2029

Kind of worrisome. Having a console directly associated with Steam creates pressure toward making games that run on its hardware, however old or underpowered/"affordable" it may be. Why would a publisher want to put a game on Steam if all the console-only users could not run it?

7. Re: Mechromancer DLC is Borderlands 2 Preorder Bonus Apr 10, 2012, 21:33 Narf2029

It's worth considering. If someone else is making the class and it turns out to be way overpowered, it's going to get nerfed down and people who preordered will hate it. Or, it's going to be severely underpowered and people who preordered will hate it.

Shame, was looking forward to it. Although with how cheap life is in 40k I'm not sure how well it would've worked anyway.

4. Re: New U.S. Game Labeling Bill Mar 20, 2012, 21:11 Narf2029

I'm still waiting for actual definitive evidence that proves this link. They said the same thing about rock music. Let's reform our legislative process and make the writer of a bill financially responsible for the court costs incurred in finding a bill to be unconstitutional or otherwise illegal. If violent video games make a person violent, why do they let me carry a gun at work?

I almost never use my 360 anymore, except to watch Netflix. Even that is dubious since I have a computer hooked up to the TV as well.

In short, Mass Effect 3, from what I've seen, is shaping up to be a very solid shooter. Mechanically it is a definite improvement over Mass Effect 2, and I found myself actually getting quite engaged in what, to me, has fast become a stale genre. Moreover, it manages to provide more choices in outfitting Shepard, some of which, like weapon upgrades, return from the original game. At the same time, I don't think anyone who's stuck with Mass Effect this long has been there for the combat, and the shallow action film cliches are a far cry from what most long-time fans expect.

To me, that says "Mass Effect 3 looks like it'll be a pretty good game, assuming you're not a fan of the previous ones."

5. Re: Evochron Mercenary Patch & New Demo Jan 27, 2012, 15:49 Narf2029

Evochron has plenty of nice moments. My favorites are trying to make trading runs in hostile systems. Nothing quite like the thrill of trying to make a planetary landing quickly to avoid the enemy navy ships chasing you through the atmosphere, but not too quickly or your high speed entry will burn your shields off faster than they can regenerate.

It's not a huge loss. I'm still catching up to things I bought 6 months ago. If I skip an Ubi title because of its over-the-top DRM I won't even have time to notice.
