Like so many I've beta tested over the past several years this game bored me to tears. Funny though... I recently picked up Rift for dirt cheap and I'm enjoying the Hell out of it.

So far, the only thing I'm not liking is the "pokemon / jarjar" playable race (Asura)... but I can live with that if the game is really really good.

LMAO, you read my mind. Most defiantly for the Asian market. Though I think a lot of others will try the Pokemon... I mean Asura out too.

I hope your wrong about them trying to avoid the TOR release window. From what I've seen either game could be out this year. Though I haven't had a chance to play GW2... that said I'm more excited for it than TOR. Just from watching the videos I'm hoping GW2 will be that one MMO to get me excited enough to buy and play... after retail launch that is.

I've beta tested so many over the years starting with Ultima Online. The majority of them I never bother picking up at launch. That has kind of snowballed over the last two years. Not sure if it's me or the WoW Syndrome.

As for World of Warcraft, Blizzard is laughing all the way to the bank with those of you who said you refuse to play it since it is subscription based. And "Oh your time is coming!" is the stupidest argument of all time. That's like walking up to an athlete and saying "Oh yeah, well...you'll grow old and suck in the future!" Of course WoW is eventually going to start losing subscribers, but only after earning billions in revenue. Free to Play? Nah, never.

LMAO, Started out somewhat good. Then started to spiral. Then ended in a cloud of burning wreckage.... that last statement... Nah, never. LoL, you actually believe that?

@nin, I still get fishing or scam e-mails telling me my account is in jeopardy because I was trying to sell it. I haven't played regularly since six months or so after retail. They can have it.

Don't forget that one of the design goals (when John Carmack built Tech 5) was to be able to alter and/or design the game across all platforms at once. So while you're right the different platforms have different code the software Carmack created translates across the three. So it is possible that this demo could be running from any of the three platforms. Though I tend to believe it's on a PC just using a controler.

edit: Oh, add me to the list of people that had written this one off but after watching this video has had a change of heart.

This developer/game is so good I'm going to buy the Witcher 2 again when it hits the 360 later this year! We've got to support studios like this one!

edit: The game is only $40 now on Steam! Not sure if it's a crazy price drop already... or if it's just a sale.

News Comments > GameStop Honoring DNF Preorders
14. Re: GameStop Honoring DNF Preorders May 30, 2011, 22:53 Paranoid Jack

As far as in store pre-orders... if the game slips or drops from radar I'm guessing it's the same as if you pre-order a game and then don't pick it up. The money you put down becomes theirs at some point with no refund. I can't remember the time period but I had it happen to me once years ago. Doubt it was DNF but it may have been.

If you only put five or ten down they will hold the game for two days before they are allowed (by store policy) to sell it to another customer. The guys at my favorite store will hold a game for me until I get a chance to pick it up or until they make contact with me about my intentions.

Not sure about the policy when you've pre-paided in full. Also if you pre-order for in-store pick-up via the Internet but don't pick it up the website says their is a restocking fee. After seeing that I never pre-order via the Internet again. Unless I wanted it shipped to me.

News Comments > The Witcher 2 Patched, DRM Removed
59. Re: The Witcher 2 Patched, DRM Removed May 28, 2011, 13:11 Paranoid Jack

That was it for the most part. I figured it out just minutes after posting, thanks. Crazy how the game runs smooth at maxed settings but runs like shit on lower settings. I've had this happen before with other games using other Nvidia based cards too. Lower res textures are slower to process thru the card than high res textures.

Anyway, the other issue may be a bug. During the Indecent Proposal quest I get caught trying to sneak past the gaurds. So when I reload a save (all the saves from that area) I'm missing my equipment. Both swords and all thrown weapons (bombs & such) have been removed from the saves.

I'm trying to get past this since it's become somewhat of an irritation. Not to mention I may just mod the item weights away... that is getting annoying too.

edit: Too funny. I hadn't played in a few days and forgot the gate gaurd asked for my weapons before allowing me to enter. Though it didn't seem all that clear now that I think about it since Roche showed up and the conversation was sidetracked. I have to assume Geralt gave them up and will get them back upon leaving.

I was having very little trouble (only one crash to desktop) running the game on the highest settings before installing this patch now the game is running like shit plus exiting to the menu and/or loading a game takes ten times longer. If you don't need the patch don't install it...

China does make some of the most impressive rip offs of anything though.

LMAO... like their HiPhone? Or maybe their crappy version of the iPad?

I know they manufacture most of what we buy here in NA but I know it can't just be me that has noticed a steady decline in their product quality. I try to avoid Made in China now.... if possible, as hard as it is.

News Comments > BioWare on Dragon Age II Criticisms
30. Re: BioWare on Dragon Age II Criticisms May 27, 2011, 14:12 Paranoid Jack

Nothing new here. Its the same lip service that every corporate talking head gives after being told to go into damage control mode. Compare this to the recent Sony responses concerning their networks security or lack there of. They're very similar. Both are attempts at covering up mistakes made with poorly constructed lies... even if the people telling them seem to believe them or act as if they do.

I've lost what little respect I had left. And I will never buy another BioWare game on release day. I'll wait for the hype machine's dust to settled and do some research first.

I'll admit I have nobody to blame more than myself. I saw the videos. I played the demo. I even told myself this isn't bad for an action game with RPG elements. But how could I know the characters were stuck in one city? How could I know they would cover the same levels repeatedly on numerous quests?

I should have waited for the reviews... live and learn, again.

News Comments > The Witcher 2 Workarounds
24. Re: The Witcher 2 Workarounds May 22, 2011, 13:09 Paranoid Jack

Amazing game. Very little issue so far and well worth any troubles in my opinion. One of the best cRPGs to date. Funny how I never thought of it before but Dragon Age borrows the idea of the Grey Wardens from Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher.... ironic since DA just doesn't compare in my opinion. I bought the GoG.Com digital version but I'm going to buy a hard copy too... CDProjekt is a studio we want to expand. And when you comparing the original Witcher with the Witcher 2.... I can't wait to see there next project. One of the best studios around no doubt. King of the Hill at this point.

I also hope they port it to consoles. A game this good deserves to be played.

edit: My favorite line so far and alternate outcome? "I need you no more. Let the feast begin, boys!"

Is there a console command to display FPS inside the game? My new system has a 580 GTX and I want to see what it's doing. Got everything turned up max as far as I can tell with little to no slow downs.

Also is FRAPS still the best for monitoring and capturing video? Or is there another freeware program out that works just as well?

I totally forgot the first one I ordered from the UK so as not to get the censored version. Is the NA version censored again? If so I'm going to have to order it from overseas again and just wait it out. I want their original vision not the one they were forced into by hypocrits.

I hope they are making a sequel or prequel to the Silent Storm games. But also taking it... them... to the next level. I loved the games but they had some issues like line of site and line of fire being a bit wacky at times.

We've all seen the fantastic looking twelve minutes of game-play video demo... and know it's running on a bleeding edge computer. What I want to see is some X-Box 360 and PS3 video footage. I want to know how this game will look on the five year old console hardware. I'm getting it on the PC... even building a new PC mainly to be ready for this and a few other releases late this year... but I may buy a second copy for the console that most of my friends will be playing on. Unless this will be cross platform multiplayer.... LoL

News Comments > The Witcher 2 Specs
21. Re: The Witcher 2 Specs Mar 27, 2011, 23:52 Paranoid Jack

Bioware really needs to work on the non-combat portions of their RPGs. I'd love to see diplomacy and stealth be equally viable ways to play through them, for example. I'd also love to see NPCs who actually acknowledge your existence. In every Bioware RPG I've played, NPCs are completely oblivious to what's happening around them. In DA2, I routinely bring fights into areas with guards and civilians and they just stand there and watch. People don't seem to care when I break into their house and steal their stuff either. Bethesda may not have the best writers but they at least make NPCs that react to you.

Quite right. I wish Bioware, Bethesda, CD Projekt & Piranha Bytes would all merge... then we'd get some top notch RPGs. But then there wouldn't be much competition.

I rarely finish a long game due to my AADD. But I finished the Witcher with no trouble. The game kept things interesting the entire way through.
