News Comments > TRIBES: Vengeance - Release & Demo Soon
24. Re: It's only a one week exclusive Aug 28, 2004, 15:43 Morgan19

Well you hit on one of the big reasons they're doing SP in the first place: "for players who have never played Tribes before." One of the main rationales wasn't to give you a great SP game, it's to help make the entire game more accessible for the general masses.

I think it's a great tactic, and is bound to help ease some more people into the series.

Play it? Blues posters don't play games, they slag them.

Heeeehe, if only BN had a quote-of-the-day function...

46. Re: the one thing... Aug 18, 2004, 16:40 Morgan19

I'm curious about the "seems to play similarly" comment. Is that from playing the closed beta, or just appearances? I'm wondering if the comparison would still be there if you didn't know it was the UT2k4 engine... I see the family resemblance too, but I don't think being born from UT2k4's engine makes it too simliar. (Though only the open beta will tell. :))

faster, tighter, more mobile, etc.
faster than T2 or faster than T1?
I sure hope faster than T1, because T2 was ugly slow gameplay.

Faster than T1, from what I've read. I think even the preview from today (this morning maybe?) had a blurb about it being that much speedier. It'd be real hard not to be faster than T2.

And dont worry about the game being 'dumbed down". theres more tribes 'vets" with their "suggestions" (read; demands) going into the game than you could possibly count

Yeah, that's the impression I've gotten as well. It seems like this is one of the exceedingly rare dev team that's really listened to a wide swath of the audience and testers.

essors why even bother if it brings nothing new to the table? I'm looking forward to it as well, I just sure hope it delivers

How do you figure that T:V doesn't offer anything new? Each and every preview indicates that the opposite is true: a new playing style for Tribes games (faster, tighter, more mobile, etc.) along with new vehicles, gametypes, maps, weapons (grapple, buckler, pod) and tweaked classes sure seems like "new things" for "the table," as it were. Seems pretty sure not to be a carbon copy of T1 or T2, from what we've seen so far.

You have been reading up on it, right?

Still very much excited.

Get ready for the Tribes1 whiners!

Meh, I played Tribes for years when it came out, and I'm still looking forward toT:V... It's a different game, people just need to remember that.

I remember staying up all night one weekend trying to beat that damn game. It was pretty creepy at 3am when all of a sudden you see Jaws swimming at you...

Was that a preview for T:V or SS:2845...? o_O They wrote the article as if the two were one and the same.

Has anyone even said that BG3 would follow the same storyline? It might be something totally different, for all we know. Just because it's a sequel doesn't mean it'll connect directly to the first two.

This thread makes me smile, especially after all the pre-release bashing UT2k4 got about being "just a worthless upgrade." It's really nice to see what a huge impact it's made with the gaming community and how much the devs and modders are supporting. I can't remember any game that's had this much content thrown at it in its entire run, let alone 6 months.

And people question why they only want to let in serious Tribes players instead of the common public? If this thread and all the stupid bickering is any indication, I wouldn't want any of you in either.

Dear lord, if there was ever a Beta I'd hope to get into...

Well that's kind of silly... To get into the form, you have to have your computer info automatically filled in. What about people like me who don't have Internet at home and sign up from work (on a less-than-stellar system) but will be running it at home? Seems a little short-sighted.

I thought this was amusing.

In 1912, the Hellman's Mayonnaise Company was shipping 12,000 jars of its product from Englad to Vera Cruz, Mexico. The first leg of the jounrey was in the cargo hold of the Titanic.

Obviously, the shipment never made it. The Mexican people were so devestated by the loss–so much so that they declared a national day of mourning, which is still observed today. It is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.

I still have T1 installed on my hdd from waaaay back when it was first released. It's a shame there's z-buffer issues, if I could get those solved I'd get back into it. I'll be curious to see how many other people have flicker polygon problems with T1 because they have newer videocards.
