It is just that, I think it's been a year or two since I read
"Hi, I played a great game named "X". It was so good that I couldn't put it down".

I have wondered for a long time now whether or not it was a conscious decision to stop talking about games in OOTB. Was it? Or do you just not have much time to pay these days?

News Comments > Outcast II Lose its Appeal?

That's because your GPU is doing nothing, the game uses a voxel engine, so there's no 3D acceleration. Play the game at 512x384 (the max it allows), and switch on 'framed mode'. If I remember correctly it will actually run at 640x480, and relative to your desktop resolution, so it's not stretched to full screen and looks a LOT nicer. It's a gorgeous looking game even now.

As pointed out by #23, with real time shadows, anti aliasing, bump mapping, LOD, beautiful rolling voxel terrain and truly fantastic water effects it really was ahead of its time. Just a shame the gameplay and story eventually got a bit complex and boring IMHO (I say eventually because I did put a lot of hours into that game at the time, just got nowhere near completing it).

I think it's all a bit tongue in cheek, some of the criticism is very exaggerated, it's meant to be amusing. This person obviously knows a lot about music and has diverse enough taste to know all these albums well - as I said before, I think they actually like most of these artists. It makes far more interesting reading than if it had simply been a list of the worst hundred albums ever. That would be too easy and not very interesting, as Blue pointed out.

i think that the person writing it was doing so from an american rock background

I don't think so, in fact there's a good chance the writer of this is from the UK. Though it's hard to say for sure, a lot of references in the article led me to believe that (ie a reference to Dead Can Dance - I'm pretty sure they're not known in the US, though I could be wrong). Nevertheless there were only three or four of the artists in the list that I'm not familiar with.

There were quite a lot of albums listed by artists that I love, but the specific albums were far from their best, and for the most part that's the point (though not for all of them). When you see some of the people in the list you know all they're saying is 'we love them, but this album in particular is an embarrassment', and I agree with a lot (but not all) of them.

Your lucky you don't haveto deal with earwigs

Ugh. We were clearing out a corner of the garden at the weekend where we'd left a pile of firewood and quite a bit of other household junk that was waiting to go to the tip (I admit I'm quite lazy and this stuff had been rotting there for a few months). I have never seen so many earwigs in one place in my life! Not to mention all sorts of weird and wonderful (and huge!) spiders, slugs, woodlice and even a large frog, but it's the earwigs that really make me shudder.

There is new footage, in so far as there are extended\different versions of previously seen sequences.

I adore it, but then I always hated RTS games. This is the first one I've ever spent enough time with to get into, and it may be for that reason that I love it and a lot of RTS players are complaining, because it's essentially my first.
All the other RTS's I've played over the years have struck me as boring, often frustrating, but never fun. Warcraft III has got me completely hooked, and after god knows how many hours playing the SP campaigns I'm still addicted.

So there you go, not everyone hates it, and I suspect most people who love it are too busy playing it to be posting here

A lot of the readers here weren't alive when Tron came out

I think you hit the nail on the head. It occurred to me (and I wish it hadn't) that people who were born the year the film came out are 20 years old now. That makes me feel old

Something keeps nagging at me about WC3, for some reason I've been considering buying it, but I've never once been able to get into an RTS in my life. Hard to say why but I just don't like them, I find them both mind-numbingly boring and frustrating, and the lack of any real atmosphere and immersion in the game world turns me off them.

From C&C to Homeworld, for me playing RTS's has always gone like this: build stuff, harvest resources, build more stuff, worry that my opponent is building stuff faster, get attacked, counter attack, get utterly trounced, get bored

I guess I just want to know if anyone thinks WC3 is likely to draw me in and hold my attention long enough for me to get to grips with it and start enjoying it? Or is it not different enough from other RTS's to appeal to me?

So basically, being the busy person with a family that I am, there's no point me playing this game even if it's right up my street theme-wise, because given the amount of time I'll be able to put into it it'll take months before it gets any good? (by which time most others players will be way beyond me in terms of experience, and I'll be fed up with it...)

Did you doubt that the demo would be so popular?

This is very cool indeed. Haven't had a lot of time to play it yet, but I love the interface and the game has a great atmosphere.
If only this was a single payer game!

I'm just not really into the whole MMOG idea, though I admit to not knowing a great deal about how they really work. Can someone who only spends maybe a few hours a week playing still have a rewarding experience? I guess I have no reason not to give it a try, I have a cable connection, but I'm just not sure...guess I should do some reading up on this game!

the interface reminds me alot of System Shock 2

Well, with a recommendation like that how could I not be interested? Best game interface ever designed that

Actually I've had a passing interest in Neocron for a while, looking forward to having a look. If I like the feel of it maybe it'll be my first foray into the world of MMOG's.

Wot no mirrors?

'Asshat' absolutely cracked me up too

However this really needs to be said to a few people around here (it seems to have got worse lately)...it's "would have" and "could have", NOT 'of'! "Would of" not only sounds stupid it makes no sense at all.

Sorry but it was doing my head in. I feel better now

It's not like they had to make a proprietary card or something

Apparently they did. From what I gathered it's a GF2 in essence, but with all the DX8 stuff that they then introduced in the GF3 retail cards.

The only people I think might be offended by the phrase "under God" would be virulent athiests and satanists (and they need to be challenged for their own good). An agnostic might have some cognitive dissonance too.

A bit of cognitive dissonance for once might do them some good
Seriously though you're missing out an awful lot of people there - what about religions based around a godess, or of course more than one god or godess? This seems pretty obvious to me, but a few people seem to think 'it's ok for everyone except atheists because it doesn't specify which god'!
