6. Re: Free Pen Apr 20, 2003, 16:41 anon@127.0.0.1

As has been pointed out, nobody actually checked whether any of those passwords were valid. Could be people just made up a word on the spot to get a free pen.

Barbed Wire

I like the late Sunday updates. I sleep in, roll out of bed, get my coffee, fire up Mozilla... and Hey! Blue hasn't updated yet! I guess it's not that late after all!

Really makes me feel much better about myself.

Yeah, that website is a trip. At least the prices are more reasonable there. Instead of 30 million for his algorithm, he'll sell you evidence of brain-casting glaened from a Superman Cartoon for 56 cents.

News Comments > Preparing for DOOM
34. I read this... Apr 16, 2003, 15:21 anon@127.0.0.1

But id could pocket some cash from Microsoft. Redmond keeps calling, trying to convince the company to release a version of Doom III for the Xbox: "We're being offered a pretty significant amount of money to sit on it until an Xbox port is done," says Carmack. id hasn't announced a decision yet.

Which if I interpret correctly, means that Microsoft not only wants an exclusive port for the XBox, but they don't want the PC version of D3 released until the XBox port is ready to go.

Presumably Microsoft figures that a lot of gamers are waiting to see what the system requirement for D3 are before they do any major upgrades. If the XBox version is ready at the same time, those gamers might just decide to buy an XBox instead of shelling out the cash for a new video card/processor/memory/whatever.

I don't care though. I've already paid for my copy of D3 and I want it now! Now, now, NOW!

Oh wait... we're supposed to be laying off the juvenile stuff, aren't we?

But I don't think you can use those boot disks for anything but installing Win2K. I never tried to delete the files off them and reuse them, but I'm suspecting it would be an exercise in frustration.

The only way I know of to make a generic DOS boot floppy with Win2K is to download a .img file from some friendly tech website, then use a program like Winimage to convert the file and write it to a blank floppy. Thats what I do, anyway.

As for the evil whining noise... I suspect somebody just snuck one of those new nVidia graphics cards into Blues system, as a prank. Has it been making this noise for about 2 weeks, Blue?

3. Migration Apr 15, 2003, 16:04 anon@127.0.0.1

Norton Ghost would do that, I think. I've used it to do a lot of HD migrations and upgrades. Don't know why it wouldn't be able to handle a SCSI drive.

Micro Warrior, Baby! I still get shivers when I see a capital "D".

I haven't played any of the FF games. Guess I'll check this out, maybe they want some new blood. *cough*

But you're an idiot with an XBox and a Tivo. I am a really smart guy, but I don't have any neat toys like that.

There's a lesson in there, somewhere.

The iD website has details, including costs, on their licensing options. I'd post a link, but I uhhhhhh... don't know how. You can find the info easily enough if you go to idsoftware.com, though.

Basically, the licensing cost for the Q3 engine is $250K guarantee against 5% of the wholesale revenue. Not a bad little setup.

Yeah, Johnny ought to take all that cash and do something with it to impress the chicks. Like.. I dunno... maybe buy an exotic imported sports car. Chick magnet! He'd have the honeys crawling all over him. I'm sure thats his goal in life.

Way to tell the n00bs off, brother! I'm with you all the way!! Say, didn't I play Doom multiplayer against you on Dwango back in the day? Your name seems vaguely familiar...

Anyway, I'm just buying into the "hype" (such as it is) because every iD game I've bought and played has been really good, really fun, and had a bucketload of replay value. iD has an great track record as far as I'm concerened, and since the hype seems to coincide with my personal experience, I'm happy to go along.

Or you could say that iD anticipates Doom III being such a hot seller that they're already planning the sequel. That's probably closer to the truth.

My system was far suprior to yours. Commodore PET with 32K of RAM. My cassette player was custom made, it didn't even *have* a volume control. It loaded everything perfectly, first try. Of course, it also cost me $85.

I also didn't have to load a program just to keep my keyboard from double-striking. And when I got my 300 baud modem.... man, I was one wired dude.

Maybe so, but it's not like these people will be walking or riding bicycles if they can't use their Segway. They'll just take their car.

27. Trust system Mar 28, 2003, 19:32 anon@127.0.0.1

Sounds pretty useless. I trust you, and by association anybody you trust, and anybody they trust. So we'll have two accounts, one honest chump that loses a lot and everyone loves. And the chump account will trust the cheating account, and we'll use aimbots and wallhacks in some high-stakes games, and clean up.

I'd say something like eBays feedback system would work better, but thats flawed too.
