ever since it was released I have been unable to d/l anything using BT.
I keep getting an error:
Download Error: problem getting response info - [Errno 2] No such file or directory :'C:\\Documents...path...\\file.torrent'
I get this error with multiple files that I try to d/l from many different sites over the past few months... any ideas?

maybe part of it has to do with Steam... after all, releasing CZ on Steam would be a great test run before releasing HL2 on Steam... since the demand for HL2 is substantially higher resulting in increased loads on the Steam system.. so why not iron out the bugs using CZ as the initial Steam retail release?
just a thought...
another thing that has to do with it is the ANON leak of CZ... probably modifying code to prevent cheating, etc.. who knows..
and another reason could just be the last minute delays during 12-hour day crunch times, trying to find bugs, etc..

Romero, on the other hand, will, according to our source, re-shape the internal studio and head-up one of Midway's forthcoming games.

Ralphus,
I wont post screenshots here, but do a little searching on the internet and you will see legit CZ screenshots... the warez websites have them all listed... didnt take me too long to verify if this ANON guy was speaking the truth or not by doing a little searching.

Before you ask -- yes.. I _AM_ one of those "dumb" developers you're referring to.. now that that's out of the way...
Accidents happen .. accidents happen all the time .. example: 1. developer (let's call him GN -- just for fun ;p ) working on his local box with access to the corporate network.. 2. GN has local admin rights because he's well.. a developer for gosh-sakes 3. GN has PDA and wants to be able to sync with his PC during meetings or TS into his desktop to show something mistake #1: is it vital to their business model to have a PDA? No. They could still make money without a PDA for meetings. This is a luxury that does not increase their business efficiency but does put them at risk of cyber theft. Thus, don't do it. It makes no financial sense 4. GN installs a wireless access point on his local computer Mistake #2: Again, no financial sense to their business model. This act provides no added revenue but does put them at risk for cybertheft and loss of their IP. Bottom line: bad news and stupid idea
5. access point gets its rear-end hacked open by some malicious dude just walking around sniffing for open or semi-open networks. this isn't bad luck, it is something that was going to happen sooner or later because they allowed it to happen by making it a possibility
6. malicious dude steals everything on the local computer (which has GOT to include a copy of some, if not all, GN's source code -- otherwise he wouldn't be able to build it) and perhaps the network 7. GN = screwed Exactly.
Stuff like that happens all the time doesn't justify it; if it happens all the time it is all the more reason to not connect your IP computers to the Net and is a combination of a little carelessness and a LOT of bad luck... just be thankful if it hasn't happened to you. It hasn't happened since I do not keep anything valuable on my system
So -- if you've got the time, money and manpower to purchase, set up, administer, and closely monitor 3 completely separate networks (one COMPLETELY closed, one monitored for email and MSDN perhaps, and one open for entertainment) then more power to ya! No, this isn't a question of time, money or manpower; it is a question of protecting your IP. And the IP is the backbone of any tech business. This isn't something that has to be done out of convenience, it is crucial to their business if they are too make any money. Just as crucial as a pharmaceutical company protecting their IP by using patents. Gabe and company were complacent, and now they are paying Just be aware that it only takes ONE mistake and some bad luck to screw you... No bad luck is needed. They allowed the opportunity to arise by providing the potential. It is all due to their poor juedgement and not due to "bad luck". Oh... and those who use the house example -- you've probably left your house unlocked at least once (I know I have).. like I said -- ONE mistake and bad luck

I used to think Gabe Newell was a smart man, now I think he is as dumb as most developers.
You have a million dollar house and leave the front door open and then complain when someone enters it and steals all your belongings. Sure, it doesn't condone the actions of the thief, but at least put up some tight security so some kid who can barely spell doesn't run away with your stuff.
Similarly, you spend millions of dollars on your company's intellectual property for the past 5 years and then keep your company's computers connected to the Internet. Even a stupider idea than keeping the front door open, because you can DISCONNECT the internet connection from your computers.
Gabe must be feeling pretty stupid right now... and I don't have any sympathy for him...

"3DRealms has recently acquired the Half-Life 2 source code that was recently leaked to the internet community and are in the process of porting their long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever game to the Valve engine. 'It was the obvious choice,' said George Broussard, 'We felt the limits of the Unreal engine and wanted to exceed those limitations. Seeing the Half-Life 2 engine as a free download - we didn't hesitate for an instant. We obtained the source code through Kazza-Lite and are currently re-working Duke Nukem Forever to utilize this new engine.' Asked when Duke Nukem Forever will be finished, Mr. Broussard says, 'When it's done.'
