I was merely pointing out, Shane, that these failures were not necessarily apparent at the outset of the shuttle program, and that to not to attempt to create the "space truck" would have been sad, as it is an admirable goal.

I was not implying that you thought all space travel was a waste of money.

But nevermind, your arrogant and rude response was more evidence of your inability to carry on civil conversation here on the interboards. I think I've pointed out this failing before, you'll ignore it or reply with something asinine.

I can think of no better use of money than research in this area. To not try at all would be a more worrying and pathetic failure.

Edit: Ooops, just realized that was Shane... no point in arguing here, he knows everything.

News Comments > BioShock PC Demo Nears
37. Wow.. Aug 13, 2007, 14:58 Propagandhi

So many people whining about the demo not coming out before the game does. You know how your life now is pretty rad? You have that mountain of old videogames you've acquired over the years, not to mention it's fucking summer right now and the weather (assuming you're above the equator) is good most days.. go outside, read a book, play a classic, go get wasted, write a program, buy some shrooms.. fucking enjoy your life rather than wasting it in this anticipatory state. Drooling over something which does not yet exist is an absurd waste of your freedom.

Drooling and stupid is no way to go through life, son.

21. Re: Apples and... Donuts? Aug 9, 2007, 00:48 Propagandhi

I don't know if you're being intentionally retarded or if you've been subsisting off fucking paint thinner, but your post sets new standards for fucking ridiculous shitlogic, PJ.

The new at&t only has about one third of the US. Qwest, and Verizon have the rest.

Woooo, they only control 1/3 of the nation so their not a national monopoly. Well no shit! They're now regional monopolies, moron, and until you get real competition in your market your wireless/internet/cable/whatever will continue to be second rate (just try and find a study that says the US's communication network performance is anything but second rate).

They sell you a service and nothing more. You don't own the phone line or the DSL (outside your premise) or even your cellular number... you're just leasing them.

Yeah, no shit you don't own every fucking telephone pole in North America. But neither do they. More importantly they don't own every fucking picometer of the wireless spectrum, pretending its not "ours" is ridiculous. The government, representing us, leases it to THEM. They create some infrastructure and resell it, but often, because our government is fucking tech illiterate, they end up being either the only carrier or one of two (IE the phone company can give you DSL or the cable company can give you cable and both will blow monkey's nuts compared to what you could get in europe).

But those companies own the facilities like Santa Fe Railroad owns their tracks and the land they sit on. So if you don't like them don't use them. Simple enough.

Except their track is either empty air (which noone fucking owns) or telephone infrastructure (which is like a road, IE, they still dont fucking own it, the local municipality or governing body does). At most they own routing centers, which get cheaper (more worthless) by the day.

now it is easier said then [sic] done if you have no choices but you still have made a choice... to use their services.

HA HA. I'd love to see you tell that to any place of business. "No, no, you're supporting this monopoly by choosing to use the public infrastracture they've rangled control of! You should run your business without the internet or telephony if you don't like it!" QFT, you can't stop using the internet or phone network anymore than you can stop using public roads. They're more than required to be competitive.

Watching people defend a system which has resulted in regional monopolies like this is just fucking sad. Three companies NATIONWIDE is not fucking competition, it's a sick joke.

I'm totally offtopic.

That quarter million is in the news for the reason: it's the exception, not the rule. The fact of the matter is that if the higher income and intangibles (nightlife, etc) of NY did not outweigh the costs people would move, they don't so the city grows.

I'd guess there are few people in New York so enamored with the city that they bankrupt themselves (I mean go seriously into debt, not run out of money and go home) trying to live there.

News Comments > On DirectX 10 Performance
20. Re: The kicker Jul 5, 2007, 17:59 Propagandhi

And this is just a loader some guy cooked up! Sure you can't play on multiplayer but it goes to show you what a pos Vista really is.

To be fair to MS I think it bares mentioning that game performance under OS X (the only other modern commercial OS) is, in my experience, also poorer than XP. I'm not sure if that's because of how aggressively Apple underclocks the GPU on my MBP or what, but Doom 3 runs like shit on this machine when run under OS X and runs reasonably well under Windows (even with the GPU underclocked).

I think its fair to conclude that some of the overhead is just due to modernizations of the OS requiring greater resources, although that can't account for the 50 to 80% improvement you're seeing...

19. Re: No subject Jul 5, 2007, 17:54 Propagandhi

IMHO Linux still requires an exceptional (compared to OS X or Windows) amount of time to get performing optimally, but once you do you know so much more about your system that you'll be able to maintain it much more efficiently. Whether the time investment is worth it to you depends on what you need out of your computer..

If you're primarily a gamer I very much doubt that the return is justifiable.

I can't believe noone called that Saga Q&A'er on his bullshit. Total Annihilation's boneyards shit beat them to the punch long ago, and pretending their haven't been inovative games since Dune 2 is also bullshit. Homeworld, Sacrifice and Myth: TFL are the obvious examples of innovative RTS's, but I'm sure someone can add more to the list.

Fuck WoW, this is IMPORTANT.

93. HERESY! Jun 20, 2007, 02:25 Propagandhi

Ad-vert-is-ments in VIDAY-O GAMES are a travesty VISITED UPON US plebians by the GOAT FOOTED one HIMSELF! Upon the INCLUSION of these monstrosities the FOURTH GATE OF HELL will be winched open by its caretaking DEMONS and a FLOOD of destructus and ruinous elements (PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIALS and SMALL ARMS) shall be released UPON THIS EARTH!

The DEVIL LAUGHS as his 7 fingerd hand works the mouth of this Neil POSTLEtheWAITe via the ANAL CAVITY. The news he propagates via this SEEMINGLY INNOCENT medium of a former human may SEEM like little more than a THIRD DATE with no KISSES. But, HARK, and listen to THE WORDS I TYPE! THIS development belies the END and indicates THE END TIMES, THEY ARE NOW!

I have presented IRREVOCABLE LOGICAL constructs, proving that the presence of ads in THE QUAKE GAME shall be ALIKE to a nuclear HOLOCAUST. You are PERMITTED to avoid purchases of this game and instead STOCK PILE RATIONS, but SUCH ACTIONS will only POSTPONE your consumption by the BRAINWASHED MASSES, high on the opiates of AD-VERT-IS-mint-S. PEAS WILL NOT BRING PEACE!

EDITS: For accuracy.

14. I... Jun 18, 2007, 04:02 Propagandhi

In the future I will be known as a great prophet, and seer of all things yet to be:

This movie will be like an hour and a half of hairy testicles at 24 frames per second. It's plot will be insipid and the acting will be terrible.

This was the first of my many great predictions.

15. Re: No subject Jun 12, 2007, 02:43 Propagandhi

having a linux version would increase the multiplayer community for mac users as windows games rely heavily on directx for networking. the company that ported directx networking code to the mac has been silent, it seems they ran into a wall of problems. so yeah, would be nice to have linux and mac versions.

I find it hard to believe that cross platform networking is a serious burden to any competent company.

News Comments > New id Tech Shown
39. Re: ... Jun 12, 2007, 00:01 Propagandhi

1) OS X is Unix, developers love Unix and you should too.

2) OS X treats OpenGL as its primary graphics pipeline, Windows has never embraced it as closely as OS X does. And as has been mentioned id has never used the Direct API's for anything but sound and input (AFAIK).

Hopefully this results in more modern graphics cards across the Mac lineup, the Macbook could use an update, as could the iMac. Better yet, create a consumer Mac Pro (just call it the Mac) so we can get an upgradeable, extensible mac with that wonderful case, but without a terabyte of storage or 8 cpus or whatever...
