What the hell did I just watch? Only one of the sweetest trailers in game trailer history. I love those muddy textures, framerate issues, and those ultra cool Nazi zombies.
But it was the expert use of CRATES that made this a Day 1 purchase for me!
Viva la WOLFENSTEIN!

Didn't Midnight Club LA already do this for it's MP. Yeah, I think there were "power-ups" that let you ram through other cars, shut down their electrical system, slow down time, etc. I know they were used in SP mode too.
Best Buy will be offering a day one purchase incentive of a code Aren't these useless, since once the code is posted somewhere, anyone can use it? |

That's not a fact, and it's certainly debatable.
He did preface that statement by acknowledging that it was opinion, and you may or may not agree. That said, I think it's pretty reasonable to say that Valve titles are worth the wait. He ended his comments with this:
Actually.. now that I think about it.. these aren't opinions. They're facts. |

I was sent a DLC code for Mothership Zeta for the PC if anyone would like it. First come, first serve.
I'm playing Fallout 3 on the PS3 and will wait for Zeta when it's released later this year. |

If magazines want to compete with the internet, they need to focus more on quality writing and features I believe that is virtually impossible since the vast majority of "writers" are hacks at best. This is an entertainment industry and the readership only wants to be entertained, which usually leads to poorly written and biased reviews, previews full of hype, and "articles" solely based on creating arguments relating to which console is better.
None of the mags (and the majority of the internet sites as well) are interested in conducting hard interviews that actually call people to the carpet; they aren't interested in developing in-depth articles that looks at aspects of the industry with a critical eye.
I look at those mags and most gaming news sites as nothing more than the video game version of Us Weekly or People magazine. Gossip columns and fluff pieces designed to give you 10 minutes of worthless entertainment, only to be throw in the trash afterward. |

Re: Trade-in value |

Game Crazy also noted that you're more likely to receive more money on your trade-in if you're quick about selling it. "Just like a car, a game’s value decreases the older it gets, so the sooner you trade games after purchase, the more value you will receive toward additional purchases. For example, the trade-in value of UFC Undisputed is $25.00 today, but it might be down to $20.00 a week from now. Therefore, Game Crazy recommends bringing it in as soon as possible, even if the consumer isn’t sure what game they want to use the credit toward, and saving the credit on a gift card," the retailer said. Hey James Brightman, are you some kind of pitchman for Game Crazy? Peddle that trash somewhere else. |

GO: Gameplay and auto-narrative closure aside, today's video game stories seem incredibly shallow.
CH: I think the fewer works you have in a medium, the more mainstream or accessible they have to be. That sure sounds like a lame excuse. I've never understood why a mainstream game needs to have a pathetic story. You can argue that the mainstream as a whole is not smart (or however you want to describe them), and so you need the story to be simple and oftentimes downright retarded.
But it's the same argument people use for the constant bombardment of reality shows. Some will say "But that's what people watch." Yeah, because that's all the network keep shoveling out! If you feed someone a steady diet of junk food, then they're going to crave it.
CH: But I think there's maybe a bigger factor, which is…gaming's just a different medium. I think we have to acknowledge the fact that it's a different medium, that the way a game affects players' emotions in terms of narrative is fundamentally different. If you compare the same elements from a game story to a movie story on paper, certain things won't match up, but I can tell you, I've had a number of game-story experiences that were as profound as any movie I've seen, one of them being ICO. I disagree. I found ICO very emotional and moving but not necessarily because it was a game. It was because of the story and how it was presented to me. I also found The Elephant man moving because of the story and how it was presented.
I really hate this excuse that we can't have excellent stories for one reason or another. Some games have already proven that it can be done and done well. |

I have to give this guy credit. It was like someone told him to write a press release using all the familiar buzz words and cliches and this guy decided to get a bit creative.

The simple fact is that if you ever created something that people enjoyed, but tons of people took it without offering you any compensation, you would be upset about it. While this is true, it brings up an interesting story I'd like to share. When I was QA testing for a publisher a few years back, I was sent to test on-site at the developer's shop for a period of time.
On my first day there, one of the devs comes over and asks if I want to play an RTS game on the LAN after work. I say sure. He then adds, "Be sure to ask Scott for the CD crack." These guys only bought one copy of the game and but 10-12 people were using it.
Something similar happened when I was working for a small developer. Most of the devs had hacked Xboxes with pirated games installed on the HDD. One of the guys even offered to hack one for me and set it up.
The point is, in large part this is how the gaming culture thinks. Many of the QA testers, developers, PR, managers, etc. working in the gaming industry think this way. I'm not going to say most of them or give some kind of percentage since I don't know, but from my (limited) experience, it seems to stem from having a blasé attitude towards it.
They frown on blatant stealing, but "casual downloading" seems acceptable. The most hypocritical aspect of it all is that corporate (higher-ups in publishers) doing the same thing but in a different way. |

We are working on a tool that would allow us to decrease that on the PC starting next year and probably one game this year. It's called "We're not releasing PC games anymore." |

The reason is that we've got a long relationship with Microsoft's first party unit. We get on great with them. In exchange for exclusivity we get a lot more promotion. We've got a closer deal with them. Sounds like a bribe to me.
They've [Sony] got their own exclusives. You look at Super Stardust, which is exclusive to PS3. It works the other way round. What an idiot. PS3 owners are pissed because of the timed exclusivity. They don't understand why the game, which is coming to the 360, PS3 and PC, isn't reaching all three at the same time. Don't give them some bogus excuse about "promotion." Please... just be honest for once. |

I beat Dead Space on the PS3 a few months back, and while there were a few entertaining moments, it was basically just one cliche after another. It has great sound design (playing with quality headphones is definitely the way to go). If another DS title comes to the next-gen consoles, I'll wait until the price drops before picking it up.
As for the ending, yes, it sucked big time. Game designers should be forced to have the ending planned out before they start on the game, rather than treating it like an afterthought. |
