Download only an option |

They're offering it because it was their original intent to make the download and activation free. But since it's so big now, that's no longer a realistic prospect. So they're going to release it in stores like a regular game, and also offer the game for download and you pay for a CD-key. As someone else said, saves time for people with fast connections.

I agree that there should be no expectation for the highest-end product, but enven small development teams can come out with games more stable than this. No matter how interesting the game is, there's no reason to release it in such a half-assed state.

"Hey they have 11,000 subscribers right now, which aint too bad. I've heard lots of re-eval and trail players talk about signing up too" Actually, that's VERY bad. That barely covers bandwith costs for a massmog. There are 60,000 people signed up for just a chance to get into Neocron beta 3.

"... Do I go around bitching about EQ's Open Beta and how the game sucks now because it was buggy in Beta??" Sure. But then, that was a BETA. WW2OL is a game that's been released for months.

I've played tactical games before. I've seen bugs before. This game, is by far, the worst one i've played. And 2,400 subscribers at any time for an MMO game, is pretty damn bad. Hell, less than 10,000 is horrible.

Tribes 2 was no where NEAR this bad. Not to mention that it was the PUBLISHER that pushed that out the door too early. CRS is the one to blame for WWIIOL.

Yeah, but in Rainbow Six, there was no chance of falling into holes in the floor. Rainbow Six also had textures with more than three pixels.

No, actually, I used the interface. I now can't walk forward. The only way I CAN is if I use the W for foreward. And no, there ARE admitted bugs with it, for instance, they say it sometimes goes read-only during installation. And may I ask why the hell they used SHIFT+esc? or better yet, why it's no where in the manual? This comment was edited on Feb 1, 17:54. |

I'd like a WWII MMORPG where I can do things like "remap keys" and "use mouselook without a cursor". And don't forget "be able to leave the game once i'm in it".

I'm sure they don't mind, considering that gamers account for probably what isn't even a fraction of their audience. The majority of people who use Macs use them for graphic design and video/sound editing. An MX of any Geforce is enough for that, plus it keeps down the cost. High-end nVidia cards are made with the purpose of gaming in mind.

Let's put it this way, Pete. What's the last game you remember doing that? Max Payne is the last one I can think of. Do you see GodGames around anymore? No. They were the only publisher to actually give their games a "when its done" freedom.
I think you're under the misconception that developers commonly have ANY say in when their game gets released. They usually do not. They usually only get that freedom if they are a freelance development company, which few companies are. If a company is a subsidiary of the publisher, they rarely have the say in when thier game is released. When the publisher's QA says it's releasable, it's stamped "gold". On another note, the "toaster" analogy doesn't work. 1.)Toasters do not have to be made to plug into hundreds of different kinds of sockets. Ever consider why console games don't have bugs like PC games? PC games have to be made to work on an innumerable amount of system configurations, and they simply sometimes miss things that only show up when they're out in the market. 2.) How many toasters do you know of with four years of constant development by a team of several dozen people? Point and case, a patch for some MINOR problems isn't a big deal. It's not like they're trying to rip you off. A few rare bugs are NOT a lowest common denominator.
Although I must admit, accidentally putting GODMODE in multiplayer is a pretty big fuckup.
