Yeah because we all know that words, and 'reputation' automatically equals guilt. Keep sucking at the media tit, and they'll tell you all they want you to know. Including that people are guilty before something goes to trial, and that they can shut and seize something without due process. And we all know that posts on the internet are never just people being idly facetious. |

I've never driven stick either so there's another wrinkle.
My dad, a Land Rover nut who does most of the work on our lightweight, mentioned putting in an automatic gear box when discussing getting a new one. I don't think he was particularly serious but it could be done. Still, it's worth learning stick. I've never driven automatic, but it doesn't look as much fun.
It's a cool vehicle, but it's well worth getting a modern engine. I'll probably get a Land Rover Discovery 200 TDI engine but I'm told a Ford Transit engine is also a good choice, they're very reliable - even more reliable than the rest of a Transit, so junk yards will have serviceable engines from knackered Transits going cheap.
Also, it's a plus to be able to tell ladies that I drive a classic two-seater convertible. That's the most important thing and who knows, maybe it will work some day. |

| Is a fan's view any less worthy? A fan boy's view isn't of interest, which this guy is, but a fan's review can be interesting; particularly to other fans of a series. I quite enjoyed Postal 2 so there's no point in me checking Postal 3 reviews from people who hated Postal 2. |

My car's 28 years old, the great thing about it is if someone hits it, it'll do more damage to their car and cost them a lot more to fix. It's a bit of a bitch to drive some times but when it all comes together, a 28 year old ex-Air Force Land Rover Lightweight Air-Portable is a sweet little motor. She passed her MOT inspection today, I'm so proud.
It's a great car for first-time owners like me. Insurance is dirt cheap, about 1/8th of the insurance I got quoted for a 2nd hand VW Golf because it counts as a classic car. No temptation to try any boy-racer antics, she only goes from 0 to 60 by driving her off a cliff and drag racing or hand-break turns are out of the question. Instead, you need to learn about tight gear changes and, gasp, manual choke.
The downside is 13 miles to the gallon. Ouch. I'm saving up for a diesel engine which should give me about 35mpg.
I hope Hudson is OK! |

Semi-realistic economic game with DRM bullshit: no buy Other interesting game with DRM bullshit: no buy Generic movie tie-in with DRM bullshit: no buy

I am but one man with but one wallet, but that's a vote in favour of good games with no DRM bullshit. |

It's a shame that one of the best game series (and a real PC game) has come to this. If they'd removed the protection complete, I'd consider buying. It just took me literally 5 seconds to find a pirate copy, this protection isn't doing anything to anyone except legal customers. |

Thanks guys, very interesting. I can't help but notice parallels with England: tough, honest Northerners; clean, intelligent Southerners; strange foreign types across the English Cha Narrow Seas and of course, a wall with unspeakable terrors beyond it to the north. Not very imaginative, but very well realised.
AGoH also has the best TV series intro sequence I've ever seen, it's just a shame that there's no scale on the map it shows. |

I've been watching Game of Thrones season 1, I've seen the first 9 episodes so no naked spoilers please. It's brilliant, up there with Band of Brothers as the greatest TV. A few things are confusing, probably due to having too much content for 10 episodes, time and distance in particular aren't clear.
They mention the King taking a month to get to Winterfell at the start, but people seem to go between Winterfell and King's Landing in no time afterwards. How far apart are they and how long does it take a fewEssos lone riders (presumably a lot faster than the King's entourage) to get between them? How wide is are Narrow Seas and how far into Essos is Vaes Dothrak?
Also, timing. (Game of Thrones spoiler) The Khaleesis is suddenly pregnant and in what felt like a couple of weeks, was giving birth (I suspect prematurally but I suspect the next episode will clarify) - presumably the birth means it is was at least 8 months and perhaps a year after the marriage. I don't get any sense of time passing between journeys and events. I think this is because there's just too much content to stuff in.
I may have to read the books. Damn you TV, you're supposed to be putting a stop to that! |

I have reservations about the whole blackout but it has certainly got people's attention and will hopefully kill SOPA and PIPA. I don't know if I'm the reason you had to put the "near" qualifier, I certainly agree with your stance and appreciate that you're standing up for it. I'm sorry it's come to needing this, not disappointed in the sites that participated.
If this succeeds, when the next SOPA comes out - and it will - I hope we are as vigilant. |

I don't know who is submitting those Call for Communication Steam things, but it's not me. While I sympathise with what they want, I don't feel we are entitled to communication and this is, in more ways than one, Valve's business.
Edit: Ah, I see it's not credited to me anymore. Nothing to do with me, m'lord!

Yeah... Control freaks apply. Dicatorship is what this game is about. Work for me pigs!
Also if it was a 'communism' simulation you wouldn't be the dictator, there wouldn't be one. In communism everything is owned and decided by the people as a whole because there are no leaders since everyone is on 'equal footing'.
Since everything is owned and controlled by the state it falls more in line with socialism. Where the state controls and regulates everything and you no longer have a choice. Not much difference from a dictatorship in actual practice really... one is for one a-hole and the other is for a group of a-holes. This is getting dangerously off-topic, but socialism isn't where the state controls everything and you have no choice. That's communism. Real communism, you described the communist ideal but the reality is people like Stalin, Mao or Kim Il-Sung. Their regimes also had private enterprise to a small extent, more than Tropico has even playing as capitalist as possible.
Socialism is a large safety net in terms of social security, employee rights and medical care. This does mean a large amount of state control and regulation, but the state doesn't "control and regulate everything". |

This is something that struck me about Tropico 3 (I assume T4 is the same): for a game about East versus West politics and directly communism versus capitalism, it is completely and utterly communist. Even completely appeasing the capitalists, it is more communist than any real nation. Everything is owned by the state, everyone works for the state, everything is decided by the state.
There is democracy but I never lost an election and never even had to fix one. Genuine democracy shouldn't be incompatible with communism anyway, although it invariably has proven to be. In Tropico, every election looks like it was rigged.
Also, the same game plays out every time; you slowly expand when affordable until some point where you break through, usually about when you get oil wells or nuclear power, at which point you expand as fast as your builders can build. I think the social structure doesn't work quite as deeply as intended, which leads to largely-ignorable rebels and the repetitive way games play out. |
