| Watching your Barcelona play through, you seem to spend a lot of time just looking for the person or place that an event has affected so you can deal with it. That looks a bit annoying. |

| Looks like Crusader Kings II is the real deal. I've just bought it on Steam based on your review and I'm going to watch your game until it's released (yep, it's going to be a fun Valentine's night for me!). |

There's a demo? Oh! Silly me, I assumed you had a "preview" version from Reloaded.
Paradox have always been bad at UI stuff like that. It used to really annoy me that years after most people got LCD monitors, they insisted in using some old resolution/aspect ratio that had to be upscaled. At least they've stopped that. If they just used a sans-serif font it would be a lot cleaner looking. |

Quboid wrote on Feb 13, 2012, 18:05: Another Kickstarter campaign wouldn't rake in nearly as much, the novelty value of Shafer's is a one off. I doubt that. If Tim announced he was doing psychonauts 2 and asked for funding, you'd see it pour in. Similarly, if other famous and trusted names or devs tried a kickstarter I bet it could pull in a million or two. Someone mentioned a populous game, I bet that would get a lot of funding.
It may be very unusual to get that much funding in a game kickstarter but I doubt its a 1 time only in history thing. Fair point. Getting the idea romanticised so it seems like a community effort is unusual, but not a one-time thing. Even if Anno did have that sort of draw, getting over a million would be tough, and still not nearly enough. Also, it may put off other investors who see it as unprofessional or uncontrolled, although I'd think that the benefits of community spirit and goodwill from a successful kick-start campaign should more than make up for that. I can't imagine EA would be too impressed, but then that's not the sort of publisher I would want.
Having said that, if they'd need $10m, what publishers out there could back them who aren't scumbags? (And if all the successful publishers are scumbags, what does that tell you?!) |

Nah, Ubisoft owns 30% of them. With a bit of luck, the creative minds will get sick of seeing their work get messed with and start anew elsewhere. If only ANNO was a popular enough series for a Shafer-esque "kickstarter" campaign. This is such a shame - the Anno series is vastly underrated here in the States, and the futuristic slant for 2070 is very intriguing. That was my thought but how much could they raise even if it was that popular? Another Kickstarter campaign wouldn't rake in nearly as much, the novelty value of Shafer's is a one off. They could probably get a few hundred thousand but what would they need? How much did Anno 2070 cost? Millions I'm sure, and that's with Anno 1404's code base to work from. To create another Anno from scratch could cost $10m. They'd need to sign up with with publisher. |

Aside from the annoying disappearing multiplayer in Anno 1503, this was a great series and by all accounts, this one is excellent too. Ah, misread it then, my apologies. Are they under contract or something? If the game are that good (personally I never gave them a shot specifically because of Ubi), and the ire against Ubi from the community seems great enough, it seems that if they could switch publishers it would be to their benefit.
Yep you got that right---gotta stay away from UBI, simple as that. Nah, Ubisoft owns 30% of them. With a bit of luck, the creative minds will get sick of seeing their work get messed with and start anew elsewhere. |

And then there is this.. why the bloody hell can't we make the font larger? How do you know you can't? |

That's a very impressive review. I'd like to see Jag review it. I probably would have got Victoria II: A House Divided if there had been a £15 standalone version but this looks more interesting.
Their take of being a person with a person's limited control could be a great change from Civ (and EU3) style uber-control which is fun, but not realistic. |

I wonder because something like this is certainly a validity check on the fears people have concerning steam and single-player game access. I'd have checked my own steam games, but it seems service was restored before I saw this notice. One game, FM2012, was running fine while the problems were happening, but it may have been launched just before things went wrong. I couldn't access the store site for a bit, while the game was unaffected. |

Doom2 and Quake are still a blast. I think Uncanny Valley would be just too jarring a place to lose myself.
There's plenty of games whose attempts at being as realistic looking as possible are integral to making them immersive as possible, which helps them as escapism: BF, CoD, Skyrim, FIFA. Things like better AI should be a higher priority but it seems wrong to question who cares. A lot of people. Most people, I'd say. |

Movies, TV, games, and music are some of the few industries that America is still fairly dominant in, and piracy is a drag on those industries. The industry is going to have to adapt. Just like How STEAM and iTunes have shown that there is a lot of money to be made online. There are laws already in place to deal with illegal activity. There's no need to create a very costly Orwellian fascist nightmare on the Internet to pursue an endless "War on Piracy." Change is difficult, especially for the huge dinosaur that is Hollywood. Change is inevitable. Change is healthy. It should not be fought. It should be embraced.
Big Content's using of the federal government to tyrannically control the Internet will not only fail but it will also ruin/damage the Internet. In the mean time, it is our civic duty to oppose and speak out against the rampant cronyism that Hollywood and Congress engage.
Successful businesses innovate. Failing businesses legislate. |
