Can't stand it when people are down on visual theater and prefer things to be dry. Especially since this is Max Payne a game series driven by unrealistic John Woo style gunplay. I'll take air mortared and explosively launched debris anyday. This is what I thought when I played FEAR2 - its combat didn't have all the mortar-y goodness of FEAR1. Then I played FEAR1 again and it didn't nearly match how I remembered it either, I think I remembered it has having lots of awesome debris, but this had been diluted by progress in other games since so by the time FEAR2 came out with similar effects, they looked weak.
Maybe your mind is playing tricks too. Or maybe my memory's crap and you're spot on. |

I pretty much agree with you, Eirikrautha - but I'm a bleeding heart liberal. How is this possible? Could it be that throwing labels around is just clouding the issue by seeing people as members of groups that don't truly exist?
I'd actually go further than you, in that (as a bleeding heart type) I believe in equality. What you call radical feminism is bordering man-hating and this is simply sexism. It's sexist for a man to be prejudiced against women and it's sexist for a woman to be prejudiced against men. Seeing yourself as a victim of men's sexism, as sexist women sometimes do, is somewhat understandable, but it's not justification at all.
Likewise, equality in wanting to look good. It's not that the average woman wants to be considered attractive, it's that nearly everyone, male or female, wants to be attractive because ultimately, we all want to reproduce and to reproduce with the most desirable mate we can. The simplest way to attract a highly desirable mate is to be highly desirable. This is massively, massively generalising, but what makes a female desirable is signs of fertility and what makes men desirable is signs that they can raise a family.
So much of human behaviour comes down to this (or rather, the infinitely more complex reality of this) and it makes sense in the evolutionary sense of propagating one's genes. |

I took the 10 seconds to be them getting out of the car, but also dealing with the shock of the impact. Still, fair points - I hadn't considered how paranoid they'd be, but presumably the conked guard had been found and they'd been notified. It's still a bit forced IMHO, but not unreasonably so.
It would be ideal if you could miss 5 seconds of the call - or all of the call - but have enough other clues to get the plot: intercepted emails, comms between security guards, etc. |

For instance, when he listens in on the woman's phone call would that call have happened anyway? The call is connected just after he starts listening in, which is when the "find employee" objective is completed. It's definitely scripted.
It's the crash that interests me. It's not shown as an objective, are there other ways to get Joe? What about the bystander helping out, and the couple in the car, if there are other ways to get Joe, are there loads of detailed set-pieces scripted into the game? Unlikely, but not impossible. This all but rules out that the crash is a completely unscripted way to get Joe, unless these are mini-scripted events which get repeated at many crashes, or the AI/animation/voice/etc is about 50 years ahead of any other game.
Also, why do they start shooting at our hero? They shouldn't start shooting at any bystander who is covering their face, not in that sort of weather, and they shouldn't be able to recognise him with his face covered. Maybe they're using some hack system of their own, but all to often in games, they seem to use magic, and if you're making a gritty, pseudo-realistic game like this looks to be, that breaks the immersion IMHO. |

This is a person selected *for her appearance* to stand next to a product. A model. Someone picked to be alluring and attract people's attention. And in fact, does so. Being offended by such a mild comment complimenting her physique is borderline insanity.
In twitter speak, I think this is #desperatetobeoffendedsomehow. I'm deeply offended by your presumption that because she's an alluring and attractive woman, she can't be an engineer.
...
Bwahaha, no, not really. I mean, perhaps she is an engineer. It's possible - but statistical analysis of the role beautiful women play in trade shows suggests that this is a fair assumption for us all to be making. |

Asus said it was inappropriate, which it is; they didn't say it was sexist, which it isn't. Perhaps they thought it was sexist, but didn't want to use that word as that could draw attention to things, but they didn't say it was sexist.
Of course, having someone there whose job it is to have a nice smile, nice boobs and a nice ass is rather worse than someone acknowledging that she's doing her job well - that's the messed up bit, that her having a nice ass is her doing her job well. |

There are probably a similar number of 10s. I am perfectly willing to believe someone thinks this game is incredible. No way people think it's meritless. Even still, most of those 10s are not rational, honest reviews. Don't trust Jaguar, he knows nothing about 10 point scales. In fact, I'm not sure he can even count that high |

Star Wars 4-6 were decent popcorn flicks, enjoyable fantasy (*not* science fiction by any sane definition), as long as you switched your brain off - or saw them when you were too young to appreciate how bad the acting and dialogue were; how unimaginative the plot is; how stupid some of the situations were - AT-AT walkers, a moon full of teddy bears, teddy bears which beat a supposedly trained, equipped and sober army, etc etc. They looked cool; Solo, Vader, Bobba Fett were suitably badass in a shallow kind of way. Space laser fights, unrealistic but looked cool. Light-sabers, impractical but looked cool. They were enjoyable popcorn fodder, better than the sum of their parts.
Star Wars 1 and 2 were stupid, incoherent, had none of the memorable-if-shallow joy of the originals and rather than looking good for the available special effects, looked horribly fake. I presume Ep. 3 is the same. Their biggest flaw is that the people who were looking forward to seeing them weren't 10 year olds any more. |

Day one purchase! The Witcher series isn't 'medieval crap'. It's actually one of the better RPG series out there, but don't let that stop you from talking without consulting your brain. I'm pretty sure he wasn't saying The Witcher is crap, just that he doesn't like medieval settings. He didn't exactly exactly phrase it like a Shakespearean sonnet, but it's still a perfectly valid opinion. But don't let that stop you from insulting people who you fail to understand. Phrasing isn't the problem. It's the implication that if it's 'medieval', then its crap. I don't particularly like point and click adventures, but I don't necessarily think they should all be classified as crap.
But hey, butt in where ever you like and tell people what they really mean to say. And even you are right, he still stated it in a way that made it seem like he was saying The Witcher series is crap by virtue of it being medieval.
I think he was saying that he considers it to be crap by virtue of it being medieval, yes, but this is a subjective view that you seemed to take as an objective criticism. He said he doesn't like it, not that it's inherently bad. Also I didn't butt in, this is a public discussion forum. |

There are mods that add the ability to control Muslim nations, as well as Pagan ones and I think there's a mod that adds Judaism and lets you play as a Jewish ruler. However, there is of course limits to what modders can do, so although other religions can be opened up, you can't mod in the ability to have more than one wife, for example; it's highly modable but it's not open source.
I must check out the Game of Thrones mod, before it gets lawyered to death. |

Thanks TheFragMan.
It just occurred to me that this sounds like what I'd wanted Stalker to be - a game focused on existing in a brutal open world. Stalker did a pretty good job of this, but they bit off more than they could chew. Perhaps with this being two projects (Arma 2 its self, and the mod), each project is/will be in reasonable shape. |

Thanks Bhruic and Fly. This game sounds fantastic, I don't think I've played a Zombie game which has the same "survival" vibe that 28 Days Later has. Games like L4D are run & gun, they've got the same superman us-versus-the-world feeling that most shooters have.
In a real zombie apocalypse, killing loads of zombies wouldn't be the goal. Living is the goal and killing a zombie should be a last resort, if for no other reason than that they used to be a human being, and perhaps with the right treatment can return to being human - but not if you've blown their heads off with a shotgun.
I hope I haven't chucked away my Arma 2 discs...
Edit: Is it Day Zee, or Day Zed? I read this like Jay Z, despite being Irish/British. |

I like getting around in a place and figuring out how it works. If I want strong emphasis on combat I grab an FPS. Typo, Ray? |
