(...)ya think people would actually get it together and try to learn from the mistakes and take action to prevent it again instead of all this he said/she said, they had/we have crap.

Which is excactly what the 9/11 commission is there for. to find the faults in the intelligence pre-9/11, so it wont happen again.

Thing is, if that commission chooses to ignore certain mistakes, well then its corrupt and not of much use.

I think most of them aim for 100%, actually...

Yeah, but I was talking about security holes, and since netscape/mozilla and IE are 2 separate "engines" its unlikely that if you happen to find a hole in one of them, it will also apply to the other, so if you spend your time finding something to exploit in firefox, it most likely wont affect any IE users, so most hackers chooses to exploit IE's weaknesses instead.

I think of IE as the browser answer to counter-strike, the biggest game= most cheaters etc.

As for Firefox security, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Firefox actually pumps out more patches than MS does for IE. Ofcourse, you can read that in two ways, but it does seem as if Firefox isn't really all THAT secure.

Might be true, but the main reason FF is safer is because its a smaller target. If your gonna spend a month to develop the biggest, meanest security-breaching annoying spyware/virus ever, would you aim for 5 or 95% market share?

14. Re: IE, Firefox Aug 12, 2005, 11:15 BicycleRepairMan

Well, in his defense, Blue IS managing a website, so I guess having/using IE for testing purposes is a must..

My suggestion is still: Firefox + Flashblock

http://flashblock.mozdev.org

It turns all flashes into a flash icon, click that, and the flash plays. That extension is the #1 reason I use FF by default.

Lately websites have also started to use "invisible flashes" to launch pop-ups, with flashblock, youll also avoid those..

IEview is also handy, and allows you to specify pages to open in IE, and has a "open this page in IE" for links.

WarPig:

You , valve or anyone can never stop cheating. as long as there is anything called "client side" in a game, there will always be a way to hack it.

I look at VAC as a form of "terror" against cheaters, if they keep having to rebuy the game/find new crack or cdkey and create new steam ids etc etc because of their cheating, then perhaps the majority of cheaters (those who download them) will simply give up.

The cheat-makers will always be there, as they see it as a challenge to reverse-engineer the code, as opposed to actually having fun playing the game.

The reason CS has so many cheaters is simply because its such a popular game with a rather lousy community. This is one of the reasons I like the UT2004 mod community alot more, cooler mods, less cheating, best community.

The theories in this book are supposed to be fake, apparantly its based on a rather good hoax

But then again, So is the bible, so who cares.

Tip: Do it once then copy the controls.con, video.con, audio.con and general.con files from \BicycleRepairMan's Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\xxxx\ to the other profile

Yeah, I sort-of knew you could do something like that, Hell, its probably easier to modify those files in notepad , than to go through the crap-ass interface, but I still think its a CRIME to keep this config system unchanged in 3 full games, without the VERY LEAST include a) Clear all or b)tell me which function <key> is assigned to when its taken

Thats like a half line of code or something, it probably takes one of their coders as much time as it takes for a normal person to configure their controls just once.

The bugs are bad enough, but everyone makes mistakes, and I'm sure they can be fixed

What I cant understand is the controls setup, I mean this is like the 5th game/expansion in this series, and the STILL havent even added at the very least a "clear all" key. No, instead they have the mysterious "already taken" message, doesnt even say which key/funtion is taken.. !!??

In addition, you still have to do it several times for land/sea/air etc, and then do ALL OF IT , ALL OVER AGAIN for SP/MP!!

For me , who doesnt use the WASD setup at all, this just pisses me off.

Disclaimer:I might be off on a couple of things, since I havent actually bought the game yet because of some hardware trouble, Ive only tried the demo, but if they didnt fix it in 5 games/expansions and like 20 patches, I doubt things changed for the retail.

13. Questions for Pope on Evolution Stance Jul 13, 2005, 12:38 BicycleRepairMan

Dear Pope Benedict XVI

Your religion is very good and all, and we have now almost completely rid ourselfs of all independent thought, if you could just tell us once more what excactly we're supposed to think about that evolution stuff, we'll continue our research (without the danger of finding something inappropriate or incompatible like pro-condoms, abortion or evolution)

Thanks,
The three scientists.

damn the guy was f'ing brilliant!

Why can't people like THAT be in charge!
Somehow man has to move to that level of thinking and acting, instead of embracing the pack of insipid cretins we have running the show now. bah.

Yeah, he's smart alright, but he is also funny, most know him as the author of "The Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy" the book and radio show that recently became a hollywood movie. I havent seen the movie yet, but I just cant see how it would be better than the books, so I recommend reading them some time as well..

38. No stronger than its weakest Links! Jul 12, 2005, 16:34 BicycleRepairMan

I guess this is a reference to all the evolution/creation debate links lately, now I've already had a couple of cents thrown in, but I'd thought I'd add a few more, but this time just link to someone who explains basically my view on things alot better than I do, the late Douglas Adams, I highly recommend his speech "Is there an Artificial God?" It can be found in his last book "A salmon of doubt", but also ofcourse on one of Al Gores greatest inventions; the internet:

35. Re: Science 0, Voodoo 1 Jul 10, 2005, 13:25 BicycleRepairMan

In a couple hundred years this spat over evolution will be viewed as utterly absurd as the backlash against Copernicus and Gallileo is now. It's the exact same crap now as it was then, and the outcome will be no different.

The scary thing is how established the theory of evolution is at this point, while the exact details can be discussed, there is no reasonable doubt that all lifeforms on earth is, and always have been evolving and adapting. Sure, its perfectly legitimate to be critical of what you are reading, and not blindly accept everything darwin (or other scientists) says as facts, however I cant see the logic in "being critical" to books of well proven, logical arguments, and at the same time blindly accepting every word of the bible as facts..

SiN Rocked, unfortunatly the long loading times earned it its bad reputation, and ofcourse the bomb that was Half-life went off around the same time. Apart from that the game kicked ass, one of the most underrated and ignored titles ever.

I hope SiN II will kick ass.. any hints to what engine it might be using? Source maybe?, or are they still developing their Quake3 based engine?

News Comments > BF2 Demo Exclusive?
46. Re: No subject Jun 8, 2005, 11:13 BicycleRepairMan

I'd love to bitch about this, but as a fileplanet member, I've reaped the benefits of such "premieres" many times in the past

What benefits? if it wasnt for the exclusives, you'd just have more people to play with. The only benefits that comes from these are Gamespots or Gamespys benefits. DICE/EA probably gets ad-space in return for pissing on their customers.

For the record I was a FP subscriber for about a year as well.. Now Im more of a Filerush "subscriber" hehe, .torrents > all other download sites/methods

As for BF2 or getting demos a day later, I couldnt care less.

PS: Filerush still maintains the boycott of exclusives, I tried seeding the Red Orchestra mod there but they took it down because of the (then ended) Fileplanet exclusive.
