Wow, I have to hand it to Valve, create a mediocre game (HL2) A mediocre game.. Wow, hate does make you blind apparantly. I bet you had some pretty unreasonable expectations for that game, but calling it mediocre is just stupid. There were just so many FUN situations in that game, where you could improvise the fighting using the enviorment ( like fighting combine along Highway 17) and so many other great moments.
Look, hate valve, steam whatever, but HL2 is an amazing singleplayer game, and has 2(3 for silver/gold) very different, yet solid multiplayer modes included in the price (HL2DM, CSS, DOD:S)
Anyway, we can all differ in taste, but HL2 is a very high quality first person shooter, no matter how you look at it.

Saying Steam is better than Direct2Drive or Trymedia/Trygames.com is like saying Stalin was less evil than Hitler. Steam also uses a key, and if you store your password on your computer so you can use offline mode, the installation is tied to your hardware just like Direct2Drive and Trymedia. That's why you can't move those files to another PC (without identical hardware) and play without reauthenticating. The only advantage Steam has is that the number of reactivations is not currently limited by Valve although you can't be online using the same Steam account on two different PC's at the same time. Read what he wrote again, Steam only has 1 ID, your steam user/id, with D2D etc you apparantly need "CD-keys" for each game, and activation for EACH game (I havent tried D2D, just going by what he posted)
You're done until the next time you launch the game where it's wait, type in username and password and login, contact Valve, wait for approval, check all game files to see if they are updated, wait, download updates, wait, extract and copy some updated files into the game's subdirectory (overwriting old files whether you want them overwritten or not), wait, launch the game, wait, play. THEN you are done until you want to play again. hm, you need to type in username and password for each game launch? you must be using a different steam than me. I just start steam , and then click on a server I want to join.

I havent tested DA yet (downloading now), so I dont know about servers, but the UT scene isnt all dead, Red Orchestra still has some servers, and a very dedicated community, so youll always find a couple of servers there, not really strange, since RO beats the shit out of DoD, DOD:S, CoD, MOH, Wolf, BF, BF2 and every other war game I can think of. And then I'm not even counting the community, which consists of all kinds of people except the really lame ones.( sort of like the early (like beta 2.0) DOD community.)

Wierd Zephalephelah, I somehow thought you were older than 12, oh well.. did you actually write all that shit "by hand"? must have taken quite some time.
Anyway, you can stop posting here now, as nobody will take you seriously anymore (or even half-seriously, which is how seriously any sane person should take random forum posts.)

If this patch is cool, I might buy bf2 soon.. I counted on the game not being ready-to-play before a couple of patches..
On the other hand , I might get F.E.A.R instead, the MP might not be groundbraking, but for that I still have my Red Orchestra

*Day of Defeat is (or was) a free download for the retail Half-Life 1 buyers although it was not included the box. So is/was CS..
So I guess this new game is steam powered and requires internet activation for singleplayer, as opposed to the older, and now much cheaper generation/platinium box, that also included CS and DOD..

2) I loved DOOM3. It was stated early on that it was basically going to be a graphical upgrade to DOOM. Which is exactly what it was. And it was all good no it wasnt.. DOOM3 was survival horror, while previous DOOM's were fast, addicting action games. and no, it wasnt "all good" either as the "demons spawns!, right behind you! formula stopped being really scary the 5th time (around the second level of the game?)
I dont mind trying to change the genre a little, but if you are gonna turn something into a horror game, well lets just say I think F.E.A.R will probably be what D3 should have been (If it had to be a surival/horror game..)

Intelligent Design.. |

Yeh, and no intelligent human minds were ever involved.
Nope - the whole economic system grew purely by random chance. No documents were ever written, and nothing was ever designed. It all just appeared "spontaneously"!! The point is, the economics are not ruled by a central force, its cause-and-effect based, like evolution.
As with so many things, only one man could just go ahead and explain things like evolution so obviously, simple and straight forward that you just "get it" right away, and that man was Douglas Adams: Heres an example from a speech he made without any preperations.
Early man thinks, ‘Well, because there’s only one sort of being I know about who makes things, whoever made all this must therefore be a much bigger, much more powerful and necessarily invisible, one of me and because I tend to be the strong one who does all the stuff, he’s probably male’. And so we have the idea of a god. Then, because when we make things we do it with the intention of doing something with them, early man asks himself , ‘If he made it, what did he make it for?’ Now the real trap springs, because early man is thinking, ‘This world fits me very well. Here are all these things that support me and feed me and look after me; yes, this world fits me nicely’ and he reaches the inescapable conclusion that whoever made it, made it for him.
This is rather as if you imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, ‘This is an interesting world I find myself in—an interesting hole I find myself in—fits me rather neatly, doesn’t it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!’

Wow, mailbag!, I really cant remember that, been reading since BN was hosted on PlanetQuake (I think)
Anyways, I also like "Into The Black" alot, since its sort of my "morning update".. I vote to keep these two, and ofcourse get some game-specific logos again (I kind of hated them at first, but now that they're gone, I miss them )

pop-ups |

There are several ways to disable those new flash-pop-ups in Firefox:
First option: (quote from [GRENDEL] at the Red Orchestra forums) 1. Load "about:config" from the address bar (remove the " ") 2. Right click and add a new Integer value 3. Give it the name privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins and the value 2 4. Restart Firefox.
Second option: Download the Flashblock extension. http://flashblock.mozdev.org, (makes all flashes "click to play) this is what I prefer, since I cant really stand animated/noisy ads either.

Come to think of it... why don't we treat the world like a PC. With all the shit floating around it's time for a format. Maybe we'll get it right in 3 or 4 tries. They tried it in germany in the 40'ies, didnt work, and most, myself included, think it was a terribly bad idea
