No, I never said it was the best story ever, I just pointed out that most stories can be summed up in one or two sentences to make it look really crappy.

In the end its not really about the story, atleast not in a game, but rather how you tell it, which is what halflife and HL2 and ep1 all do very well

You could sum up any movie or any book the same way

And people went bananas when valve shut down WON to replace it with steam..

I said it back then, and I'll say it now, in reality that was a great move, since those WON games now get an afterlife. You just cant expect a buisness to spend money handing out a free service forever.

I had more fun this time out.

The more you play, the better it gets, its like listening to a great album. RO still have some bugs and issues, like most multiplayer games, but in the end the game is just so satisfying that the faults can be excused most of the time, besides, the developers really listen and respond to the community more than any other developer, if you have a question or comment, simply bring it up in the forums and theyll probably answer themselves before the end of the day. They also listen to suggestions, and lots make it into the game.

Well, mr.matrix, like most games, RO has have some known exploits, most of them are discovered pretty quickly, the mod had a map you could easily crawl below ground anywhere, people still played and had a good time, without exploiting.

lyes krovy is a brand new map, so no suprise if theres an overlooked glitch in there somewhere. Theyll probably fix it in the next update.

You can report the gamma exploit to Tripwire at http://www.redorchestragame.com , I recommend PM'ing [RO]Ramm-jaeger at the forums, he's lead coder.

While I applaud the attempt by the RO Team, it just wasn't for me.
many people most people nearly everyone hates this game the first couple of hours, this is why its not a free weekend like DOD: Source had, they give you 5 days because you really need to get into it to like it, It looks like another shooter maybe, but theres much more depth in it than that.

I fully understand it might not be your game no matter what, but I strongly urge you to give it another go just to make sure

Nice review, I still recommend playing it some more, the game really grows as you play, I'm also pretty annoyed with the lack of climbing/jumping small obstacles when youre out of stamina, but I think the movement speed itself is near perfect, you can also sprint longer than in DOD for example. Also, you can sprint crouched, which is very helpful for running from cover to cover

If you _only_ wanna play sniper this isnt really the game you want, sniper is awesome when you get it, but youll need enough ram to get in first Try using, and getting good at bolt-action rifles instead, they are always available and really cool to use when you get the hang of'em. Use sandbags, window frames etc to REST your weapon, this feature is incredibly well implemented , you dont push any buttons, just hover your rifle over any ledge and it gets visibly steadier. this gives you yet another reason to seek out cover.

It isnít popular. Why should I buy a game that has only around a hundred people in the USA playing it in the middle of the night.

The game isnt popular mainly because its marketing budget is probably close to non-existant, its difficult to sell that when giants like COD2 or BF2 has the budget it has..

The good news is that there is a steady increase of players in RO, hopefully this free week will give the number a further boost

Well, youve been told the wrong thing , unless "extra shitty" means "its nothing like BF2 at all"

They are both teamplay-online FPS shooters, and they both have tanks, and the goal is to capture areas on the map. Thats all RO and BF2 have in common

BF2 is more a "fun" game focusing alot more on vehicles (planes, choppers, boats)not found in RO

RO is about playing a reality-based thing, you need to use real tactics, real weapons, and most of the stuff in the game are historically accurate

"balance" for example means something else in RO than in most games, while games like DOD for instance, theyll use a 1:1 or some kind of rock-paper-scissor system to balance the weapons the allieds Thompson is almost identical to the Axis Mp40 for example

In RO, the weapons are modeled after their real-life counterparts, not just in the look, but also in RPM, ballistics, etc. and game balance is acheived in other ways, by limiting the amount of certain weapons per team etc.


There is no bunny hopping or dolphin diving in RO, basically if it makes sense to do it in a real situation, it makes sense in RO. considering running out in the open in that courtyard to snipe the waiting MG42? you die.

Flank him by carefully running cover-to-cover? He dies.

Screenshots dont do the map justice at all, and the amazing thing about the map is that its 1/1 from actual scale, and about 90% historically accurate to the actual area, and its basically just one large field, littered with rubble, sandbags, craters and destroyed buildings, so you'd think it would be a mix of boring and unplayable, but infact its the complete opposite.

Its also combined arms map, great for both infantry and tanks

So many things have been done right in that map it completely blew me away. visuals, playability, historical accuracy, open ended-ness..

I've been on the fence about buying the full game. Though the lack of Warsaw and Moscow Highway is a bit of a let-down.

Have you seen Konigsplatz? nothing short of groundbreaking level design right there.

No, I havent played WW2O, but I know that its an MMO, and RO is still a FPS with 32 players per server.

As for the 14 year olds, well I guess you could be unlucky, perhaps more likely in the free period and meet completely immature people, but generally, the RO community is a very mature and civilized one.

What I'm saying is that it can be compared to DOD, COD or even BF in some respects, but if you are used to the run-and -gun playing style and try to use it in RO, youll die. RO is one of the very few FPS that have actually manage to innovate in the MP playing style itself. Once you've tried it, and gotten into it, you'll see what I mean.


BTW, there are lots of WW2OL players in the RO community, come over and say hello

Just remember to give this game some time. Dont play just 30 mins or an hour thinking youve seen it and then uninstall

There is a reason its not just a free weekend, its because it takes a few hours, getting killed, not getting it, where its just frustration and hurt.. At one point youll just hate the game.

Then suddenly, you use real tactics, act carefully set up the shot and land your first well excecuted bolt-action rifle kill. Then you are there. Or that first time when you run across the konigsplatz, and see 3 of your mates get blown to pieces by artillery right infront of you, you turn in cofusions and hear the terror of an approaching tiger in the not so distant distance.

TANKA!

He uses the MG at you, tracers fly past your head, momentarely blurring your vision, the hit the ground next to you and bounces into the air, there is no choice to make, there is no way in hell you can rambo your ass out of this, JUST.GET.DOWN.

In short, RO is just these really intense moments, but again before you get into it, it can be both confusing and downright frustrating, specially because people are so used to DOD or COD and think the same tactics will apply. they wont. RO may look similar, and the first few minutes seems like its the same old ww2 game, but I promise, its not.

if you feigned with an animation, it would be obvious: it wouldn't look like ragdolling does, and the end product wouldn't look or act like a ragdoll.

Isnt feigning a bit of a dumb tactic in a combat situation anyway, thought it was done out of sight, so that when people come they think you are dead already.. If so they could just as well used a controlled sit-down/lay down animation..

they each have classes & BF got it right.

If TF2 was BF I'd be really disappointed, BF has way more watered out classes than TF should have, the cool thing about TF is how each class is so different, and basically only good for one thing. the heavy is useless for running, the scout useless for defence and so on. In BF there are classes, but like most so called class-based games, you can almost ignore your class and do everything with any class..

I'm not saying thats a bad thing, or that it doesnt fit into a realistic setting, but its not TF.

Haha, I thought the trailer kicked ass, no gameplay, but it looks pretty unique and cool, I just love the music and the whole retro- action/spy style, kinda reminds me of Snatch here and there (and the incredibles, ofcourse)

That outside area looks like the new 2forts btw

I've heard several games also have the thompson submachine gun... Seriously we get 2 portal games, so what? Besides this isnt really a prey ripoff, If they meant to ripoff prey, they would first look at the success of prey, then start planning and making the game, and seeing as prey is just out less than a month ago, its pretty obvious valve started making this since before the first (human head-made) prey screenshot was even released.

Besides all that the gameplay and general purpose of the game seems to be entirely different, watch the video again and notice the portal physics explained, if youre standing on a ledge, shoot a portal in the wall and one on the ground below, the speed you gain while jumping down will remain when you exit on the wall, so you can use that to propel yourself(or anything else, probably) sideways or any other direction. this will kick ass.

That looks kick ass, I really like the trampoline effect (ie: creating both portals on the floor far below and jumping into one makes you fly out the other, check out the forums on the Nuclear monkey site, theres a custom level with that effect on it. its called trampoline.
