Careful Ray, you don't want to get those Ewoks mad at you... Evil little bastards.

You got most of it right, but you're forgetting one important thing that no one seems to remember about Ewoks - they were going to eat Luke, Han and Chewie. Think about it folks, they were not only carnivorous, they had the balls to try and eat a Wookiee!

Just an update hot off the website (http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/): All servers are down, and the best estimate is 0800 Pacific Time on the 27th.

Edit: Dang, Ray beat me to it.

Important Info! This was posted to the Galaxies tech support forum (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board?board.id=Techsupport) by someone who has many new best friends right now. I thought that since the offical boards are so unstable right now, maybe some folks here would appreciate the info.

There is a workaround to the subscription bug that everyone has been having trouble with. If you have trouble starting your account, try the following steps.

1. Download Mozilla/Netscape (preferrably Mozilla 1.3) and install it. If you already have Mozilla installed, then you're going to want to clear the history and delete all cookies.
2. Open up the following page in Mozilla -- https://swgbl.station.sony.com/launchpad/subscription.jsp
3. Follow the subscription process normally. If you have trouble (like a 404, or a timeout) hit back and try again.

I wasted about 6 hours trying to go through the inbedded IE browser window to activate the account, it didn't work. This worked in 5 minutes. I hope this helps anyone who's been pulling their hair out in frustration. Be advised, this does not have a 100% success rate, but it's definately better than sitting on your ass all day getting angry and SOE.

Heh, the Link of the Day got changed. No wonder you don't think it's funny. Originally, the part name was "DICK HEAD", instead of "MODULE".

Only an hour? ha! You're lucky. I've been trying this for over 5 hours now. Some people on the East coast are probably at the 7 to 8 hour mark by now.

I've yet to even form an opinion about the game itself - but the launch definately sucks.

Yeah, 3E is a pretty flexible system, but this is not going to be a DnD game.I mean, sure, it'll have all the classics like your Magic Missles, Vorpal swords and whatnot, but the EXP system is going to be slaughtered on this one.

Don't they realize that having a level 20 maximum cap doesn't cut it for an MMORPG (if you want to get technical, there's a level 30 cap in the Epic Rules Handbook)? It takes forever to gain a level in games like EQ, and they have something like 50-60 levels. Am I going to have to log 10 hours just to gain my first level? What about the magic user's "spells per day" restrictions?

I mean, I hope it's a good game. More good games = more fun, right? But I highly doubt there's a way to squeeze Dungeons and Dragons proper into the MMORPG format.

(Jesus I sound like such a geek sometimes)

You might think I am jaded, but I am not

Well I am, this movie is going to suck! The only way I am going to like this movie is if they just drop any pretense about having a plot, and just have an hour and a half of Dwayne ( sorry, The Rock ) spouting one-liners while engaged in the longest car chase in cinematic history. No crap about stolen diamonds or (more likely) terrorist threats, just one long special effects shot.

I just think it's funny that the NY Times articles generally deal with protecting your online privacy and reducing spam, yet they force you to register for their site - no doubt putting you on their own spam list.

What the heck happened to this guy:

I'll say. Used to be, you couldn't go more than 2 OotB's without tAE popping in. Now who do we got - Ray? Beh, just not the same. <sigh> The times, they are a becoming quite different.

Edit: Changed the subject, I think Mozilla decided to auto-fill a field it shouldn't have

...I have a PC, PS2, Gamecube, and an X-box. Now, regardless of the platform the publishers choose to put their game on, I know I'm going to be playing it on day one.

Well isn't that fantastic for you. I can only hope you don't have trouble polishing all the diamond encrusted jewelry you must also have. I'm going to take a crazy guess and assume that not everyone is a rich fancy-man link Valzante here and perhaps doesn't spend thousands of dollars on their machines each year.</sarcasm>

After I make sure I have a car to drive, groceries to eat, an internet to conect to, and a roof over my head, I'm not swimming in money. In fact, at the moment, I'm able to have maybe enough cash for a game a month. I built my current PC with a budget of about 1500 dollars or so. And it's going to have to last me at least another year before I can scrounge enough cash for another one. I hardly think I'm in a dangerous minority here with PC gamers.

I don't have an extra 250 bucks to go out and buy an X-Box (don't forget the cost of extra controllers and that ever important Live account) just because I want to play a game a few months earlier.

I hate it when people think that everyone else happens to have piles of money lying around the house, and they're just too proud to buy an XBOX. You think I wouldn't mind having an extra system to play games on? sure! more games=more fun, right? But it just doesn't work for me financially, and I'm sure more people than me have that problem.

I don't think that's a real screen. It look just a little, too... wrong. The lighting seems off. It just doesn't look like it was rendered by a machine.

Well, you know, if it's the second generation, it has half as much mass as before. Maybe quarter-life?

Nah, that's just as bad, maybe worse.

Well personally, I'm slightly concerned about one certain sentence.

NVIDIA hardware will become the preferred PC graphics platform for EA's worldwide studios

I just don't know what to make of it. Normally I would just figure this is EA and nVidia slapping each other on the back and trying to boost their own sales - that "Way it's meant to be played" campaign isn't anything new.

But part of me thinks that EA might use this as an excuse to drop any support for any video card other than nVidia. I know if I were huge game publisher, I'd jump at any chance to reduce my support costs. Being able to say "You don't have a GeForce card? Sorry, we can't help you with that fatal error" could probably save them a wad of cash when it comes to technical support.

Who gives a rat's ass what Robin Williams is playing? As far as I'm concerned, he still owes me 8 bucks for Bicentennial Man.

Dan, I'm going to guess that you're talking about the "conducting" part of Wind Waker. If you try and time the movements with the exact time of the moving cursor, you're going to get it wrong.

What you need to do is have the C-Stick in the proper position BEFORE the "metronome" returns back to center, and hold it there until the metronome passes center, then change for the next position. I hope what I'm saying makes sense, but this is what the King of Red Lions is actually telling you.

Those who build there own PC's have no reason to put in a DVD drive.

Why on earth would you even say that? My DvD drive was the first component that I purchased when I built my new PC. I like watching DvDs on my PC, those of you with ATI cards (maybe just All-in-Wonders) will agree that the pc is one of the most perfect places to watch movies. My monitor will provide higher resolution than the Sony big screen in my living room.

Just because you didn't get the DvD drive doesn't mean that the rest of us didn't.

There's no official date at the time. Though I would guess this is a delay in the range of 3-6 months. So I can hope for a festive July 4th release, but I'm expecting a more pragmatic October or <shudder> Thanksgiving release.

Dictator Bush? - please, he's too much of a moron to be regarded as such. I don't have any doubt that what is happening in Iraq right now is correct, we just can't convince people to be on our (US) side when we have such a blockhead in the Oval Office.

I liken it to some sort of dumb high-school drama. The spaz has a good idea, but no one wants to be seen as part of his clique.

My greatest fear out of this mess is that it will galvanize support for Bush, and he'll stay our president for four more years.

Please, this is par for the course for Wagner James Au. If you want some truly shining examples of pretension and condescension, you need look no further than his archives - I particularly enjoyed the Black & White, and Max Payne "reviews." It never fails to amaze me that one man can be so full of himself, and not have his own radio show.

That's not to say that the rest of Salon.com isn't full of the same type of tripe. Quite frankly, I think I should start soliciting donations for the "Get Wagner James Au to Shut the Hell Up" Fund.

Though I don't think this will apply today (since CD/DVD technology has matured quite a bit), I remember that the original Playstation revisions actually caused some pretty annoying problems. I remember plenty of people having trouble playing Alien Trilogy (and a few other games) on some of the orginal Playstations. I remember all kinds of weird solutions coming from this (I think this was the first time I'd ever heard of disk-swapping, in fact), but flipping your PSX upside down was among those most odd.

But I definately do remember the heat issues. Heck, I remember helping my friend build a lego/case fan solution for his PS, worked pretty good too, we actually made the Playstation cooler when it was running then when it was sitting still. Although the noise was a bit much =)

This still doesn't make any sense. Rare has always been a solid development house for the big N. Games like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were always big sellers for the N64, and really helped improve Nintendo's image during that dark time - not to mention the Donkey Kong Country line. And Killer Instinct! Rare gave Nintendo lot's of Street Cred, and I still think this is some kind of wierd joke.
