I downloaded this patch in less than 10 minutes. What are you on, a 300 baud modem?
I think he has a 28.8 so you are close.
For those of you that are having success with the downloader, don't doubt that some of the performance issues are directly related to the Blizzard software.
I have removed my PC from my home network, turn off all firewall software and directly connected it to the internet and still had piss poor performance.
Hook everything back up, locate the trakcer info and download the patch with a real BT client in 5 minutes.
It's been like this for me since June.

Thanks for the tip! Last question, is "Soul Calibur 2" suitable for a soon to be 7 year old? That's a tough question to answer. I have the game. I also have a 6.5 YO. I wouldn't let him play it.
I enjoy the game
My 6.5 YO kid is pretty level headed, it's the 4 and 3 YO I worry about.
Good luck,

I had to open certain ports on my router to get the download to work. It's all on the WoW Tech Support website. I've followed the instructions to the letter since closed beta. The program just crawls. If I use an 'alternative' client that connects to the same tracker it SMOKES!
Night and day, black and white, cats living with dogs, it's just plain obvious that their BT client is a stinker.
If you get ok to good performance out of the Blizzard BT client imagine what you could get from a real client.

That's brutal! You do get a holiday in there somewhere don't you? We 'shut down' between Christmas and New Years. Of course that really means that myself and the lead project manager / estimator / owner are in the office with no laborers / engineers / sales reps to bother us.
We get an amazing amount of work done working just half days that week.
At the least I hope they pay you overtime for it. I'm salaried but I do just fine, thanks for the concern.

it has a nearby instance, and, stupidly, is the location of the alliance auction house. Being the auction house alone makes IF lag like no other area.
Speaking of auction houses, what a poorly implemented system Blizzard has. Heaven forbid the main race cities all have one, there be a way of linking them to the dead and pointless nuetral auction house in Gadgetzan, that any attempt be made to have an automatic, ranged acution total, that time was properly added to bids placed in the last few minutes of auction, etc. When I first joined the CB the auction house was in SW and IF was a ghost town. SW lagged like crazy.
I read somewhere that they plan to place auction houses in each major city and to link them along with linking them to the AH that is accessible to both factions.
I see many people that are in the mid 40s to 60 saying the same thing as you. I guess a lot of that has to do with blowing through the game content so quickly. I'm just now beginning to enjoy the game in retail. I picked a different class to play from beta, I figured this would be a good way to spice up the quests I've already done before. I can safely say that playing a priest has changed my perspective of the game from what I thought/felt when playing a non-nerfed warrior.
As to your comments regarding grouping issues. I know that the instance runs that I have done with guild members have been a ton of fun. The two I did with pick up groups were painful to say the least.
It ended up taking me roughly fourteen hours to download a 39MB patch. Even on dial-up, that is ridiculous. If you can sit there and putz around enough to get a good seed, you can do ok. Otherwise, it is a painfually slow process. For costing $15 a month, Blizzard being unwilling to pay for patch bandwidth is completely ridiculous. Even looking at bug patching, I can think of a good fifteen or so items that I reported, were confirmed to me as being known and on the bug list, and which made no appearance in this patch. The powers that be just can't seem to get their heads around this one. I'm really curious to see how the servers handle this weekend with the flood of new people coming on board.

From the response i've seen, i would be suprised to see the next patch come out with the same blizzard downloader.
Consider yourself surprised in advance then. They've had this problem with the BT downloader they use for at least 6 months now. They didn't change back then. They didn't change when they required CB testers to download the new 2.0+ gig client via that method. They may improve it but it will be the same method.

I was watching a movie Monday night on my computer, and was struck partially/temporarily blind! (no, it wasn't that kind of movie, pervos). It started as a little spot just left of centre-of-vision that I couldn't see through.
I decided to go to bed and see how things were in the morning, thinking that I was going to be pretty annoyed if I woke up blind.
The spot began to spread (freaking me out, I might add) until it was taking up probably 2/3 of my left visual hemisphere. Light was getting through, but everything was distored and wavy, and I couldn't see through it. Even with my eyes closed it was very 'sharply' bright.
As I laid there in bed unable to fall asleep, the blindness stopped growing, and then started migrating towards the edges of my vision. After about an hour, there was a just-barely perceptible distortion at the very upper-left edge of my vision.
When that dissappeared a few minutes later, I was struck with an immediate and painful headache which stayed with me throughout the next day, and honestly is still lingering now.
That was a unique experience, and not really very pleasant. I would get myself to a doctor if I were you. Not to be alarming (and I know this will be) but I believe that these can be considered signs of a stroke.
I hope everyone feels better in time for the holiday weekend.

Re: Gotta Go Programmable... |

but still, the heat pump has worked really well, even with the programmable thermostat. I'd like to know more why you don't like them .... I should have added that I would not recommend them to someone that lives in my area. They should not be sold to people that live where the temp dips below 40F.
Having lived with gas fired hot air heat, coal fired hot water heat and oil fired hot air heat I must say that the heatpump in my current home does the poorest job by far.
First off, this is a Lennox heat pump and it is under 6 years old. Some people will argue that the newer pumps do a better job than those sold 20 years ago - this is a newer pump. It is also not undersized. The prior owner went the extra mile and installed two pumps, one for the first floor and one for the second floor. The house really needed just one so I am sitting on 2 times the heating/cooling power I really need. This was great when I built the addition - I didn't need to upgrade my HVAC at all.
The AC function on both pumps work just fine, the heat however...
Just never gets hot until the coil assist kicks in. At that point you might as well just use electric baseboard heat. Once the outside temp hits 37F for extended periods the heat pump hits a 'balance point' and the coils are a necessity. Now the pump has lost it's luster IMO.
On top of that, the heat that leaves the register never feels warm until the coils come on.
My opinion has more to do with the region I live in than anything else. I should have stated that.

It's still useful for dropping/raising the temp at night when everyone is in bed asleep. There's no sense in keeping the house at the same temperature then as you do during the daytime. And the thermostat can easily have the temp back up to "normal" by the time you wake up. There is one instance where set back temperatures are a bad idea. Anyone owning a heat pump is better off leaving the temperature set at a constant level. These pumps are designed to sit at one temp and not cycle. Forcing a heat pump to cycle only increases your heating bill.
That said I would never recommend a heat pump to anyone. Ever.

Anyone but me really glad it is Friday? Man this week has been a pain and the weekend will be busy with both fun and work, but I'm just tired of being at work today. Probably not being my most productive, either. That was last week for me. I've actually managed to sneak away for a bit here and there and get my shopping done AND play some WoW during the day.
It might be like that for me next week as well but I'm not counting on it.

I did have a brush with a celeb while working my way through the masses, as I saw professional curmudgeon Andy Rooney walking down the street, I've run into the following people in Manhattan:
Molly Ringwald
Robin Quivers
John Melendez
Dustin Hoffman
Which is strange because I don't go there all that often. Dustin Hoffman was the nicest of the people I met.
