The RockPaperShotgun hands-on preview wasn't very complimentary. They said it was completely linear and scripted to the point of breaking the immersion because you'd constantly have to wait for your AI allies to do something before you could progress.

It's a shame that this seems like it'll be just another generic pseudo-realistic military shooter. They're putting more effort into the PC version than usual and I'd love to see that become a trend. Unfortunately, I can't buy a game I have no interest in playing.

Kaos's strength has always been their skill at making a solid multiplayer experience. I'd look towards that part of the game for the good stuff.

Poor Painkiller, Dreamcatcher pulls it out of the closet once again like an old burlesque whore dancing for change from filthy old men. A complete lack of respect for a once great IP.

Look, if you are a tweeny 12-13 year old boy hitting puberty this game is for you! It is so unbelievably stupid it's almost funny. It is a decent port, it runs fine but there are a few more tweaks some may want but it's not worth bitching and whining about like the typical PC fanboy is expected to do (expected by CliffyB anyway). I don't think it's worth the $60.00 I paid for it on Steam but at $40.00 it would've been more on target. I have to play the game in 15 min segments because it just starts to get under my skin and after a break I can tolerate it again (for another 15 mins). Maybe I'm getting too old for this type of humor and gameplay but it sure doesn't appeal to me like it's suppose to.

FWIW, the trailers made it pretty evident that Epic was going to use the old fallback oversized meathead characters its been using in all its games since day one. Evidently Mark Rein and Cliffy the boy wonder simply HAVE to put their signature on everything within their domain and that includes their absolute certainty thaqt everyone loves "badass" characters even though its so fucking cliche at this point that you'd think it was satire.

Again, PCF could've done a good job but when you see the Epic name on the box you should expect the same childish shit you get with all their games.

While there's some fun moments, the game is too tightly controlled and linear to be a spiritual successor to Painkiller. Perhaps if Epic had let PCF do their own thing we would have a much better game but Epic simply overproduced the shit out of this thing to the point that they might as well have made a lightgun game. Some of the dialogue is quite funny and there's a spot of brilliance when you get the the level where you take control of a rather cool toy but other than that its more a rental than a keeper.

I miss the ability of being able to blast through terrain features a-la RF1. The structure demolition is certainly fun but it sort of breaks the immersion when you can destroy massive buildings yet your weapons have zero effect on the rock/ground right next to it.

This news isn't surprising in the least.

I wonder if these will be time limited like the 360 version. I'm not sure about the logic of releasing a demo and then taking it off the market a couple of weeks later.

Epic released a massive MP demo for UT2004, 4 maps with several gametypes for each map yet the game still went on to sell in the millions.

News Comments > Crytek Responds to Crysis 2 Leak
202. Re: Crytek Responds to Crysis 2 Leak Feb 13, 2011, 21:19 Hump

I'm willing to bet the game's potential day 1 sales have increased due to the leak. Crytek is dumb if they don't see this. I didn't even download it, but I watched some of the vids on youtube and they made me care about a game that wasn't even really on my radar at this point.

The day 1 sales wont change since this leak is barely playable anyway. Also, people forget that one can't play online with stat leveling etc unless its a legit copy.

EDIT: oh, one more thing, go check out the comments at TPB on the Crysis 2 torrent pages. You'd be surprised at the amount of posts that sympathize with Crytek and don't want to ruin the experience by playing an unfinished, unpolished copy.

Again, while there might be a tiny bit of attrition, its unlikely to impact sales all that much.

Porn-O-Matic wrote on Feb 13, 2011, 13:08:
The retards here who seem to think that copying a game doesn't hurt anyone are obviously COMPLETELY missing the point. Furthermore, they must not be PC gamers either. I'll elaborate momentarily.

The argument that copying doesn't cost anything is irrelevant. Absolutely and completely... irrelevant. (If you don't know what "irrelevant" means, Google it.) It's irrelevant for 2 reasons...

1.) Unauthorized copying of games is illegal. It doesn't matter what your ethical point of view is or how perfectly you can "prove" (in your own fucked up world) that it doesn't "cost" anything to anyone. The law trumps any bullshit you spew from your mouth. It's illegal. Period. You're not fucking allowed to do it, asshole. If you do, you should go to JAIL and get your faggot ass raped.

2.) Game developers are in charge. And here's where it matters if you're a PC gamer or not. PC games are the undeniable leader in piracy. PC game developers know this. Now pay close attention, morons... read this slowly if you need to and I'll try to use small words that you can handle... PC game developers are going to IGNORE any philosophy, reasoning, justification, or ass-backwards argument you make that promotes piracy or attempts to make it appear that piracy costs nothing.

In other words, if PC developers decide that the piracy is costing them too much, they'll stop making PC games. Period. Your words mean NOTHING to them. If you pirate games, you are no longer a customer... you're a criminal. (Refer to reason #1 above if that's confusing for you.)

It's that simple. They don't care about your personal views on the differences (or similarities) between physical private property and intellectual property. THEY choose. THEY decide. THEY are not obligated to listen to your fucking bullshit.

Even if you post the most epic forum comment, or a 1000 page white paper on how piracy doesn't really hurt the developer, it won't make one iota of difference to the developer. They're not going to look at your retarded rantings and say, "Oh golly gee... okay. You're right. We'll just keep making games that cost us 1 million to make, but only generate $100,000 in revenue because the other $900,000 worth was downloaded from a torrent. Yeah, that makes perfect sense. Who are we to argue with you?"

Yeah right. That's not gonna happen. Scream all you like, post all you want, but get a fucking clue, morons. The developers are NOT listening.

1.) People will continue to pirate games. Whether its illegal, immoral or otherwise. This includes PC and Console. Pontificate until you are blue in the face, this will not change.

2.) People do NOT give a shit. They don't respond to legal threats, guilt, DRM or anything else you'd care to name.

If you are a game developer you can either sit and bitch about how rotten and unappreciative folks are or you can sit and think about ways to monetize your product in the current climate. The former will give you ulcers. The latter? a shot at making a living.

As far as the argument goes, yes, I'm sure piracy has affected PC sales by some percentage but its been shown its a helluva lot less than publishers (movies, music, games) are claiming when they run to the politicians to get special legislation passed. The biggest factor in the decline of PC gaming is simply that less people are using high powered desktop systems now as compared to even 5 years ago. Smartphones have replaced desktops for things like email, chat, web browsing, e-commerce etc. When the same people DO need some kind of full featured PC most use a laptop, few of which are powerful enough to run AAA games like Crysis 2 (though that seems to be changing for the better)

Further, this is probably the last generation of dedicated consoles we'll see. The game industry is looking to cloud computing to kill several birds with one stone. Things like "lost revenue" due to used game sales, illegal downloading etc will be a non-issue once CC has matured in a couple of more years.

Until that time things aren't going to change much. Arguing morality/ethics might rock your world but, ultimately, its a dead end as far as downloading goes. The market will find equilibrium.

seeing as I already preordered the thing I checked it out.

it is absolutely NOT worth downloading due to the state its in. Frequent crashes, freeze-ups, binding issues, etc. If you plan on buying it, don't ruin the game for yourself by playing this hunk of internal shit. It makes me wonder why EA/Crytek are worrying about this at all. very few people will have the patience to play it through.

FWIW. What little gameplay I did experience seemed a lot more focused but NOT dumbed down like people are expecting.

A joke...Morals went down the tubes...Some day you guys will face the truth and when you do...you will remember my words!:) With that said, I hear people complaining that the devs and security are at fault instead of the individual that leaked it? What a dumb thing to say.

OK, taking the game (or song, or movie) is "immoral"......now what? Do you think several hundred thousand people are going to suddenly feel guilty and delete it from their HD's? The media company uses a draconian form of DRM which 1.) does nothing to stop people from pirating 2.) fucks up the ability of those who honestly bought to take their media and use it wherever they want. Tell me how THAT scenario, which plays out on a daily basis, is helping the issue?

With the exception of a handful of deluded kids, no one is claiming that the creators shouldnt make money off their creations. The problem is that distribution models have changed. Publishers are now excess baggage but want to continue to be overpaid middlemen by distributing plastic discs which are no longer needed. Valve saw this coming long ago. You'll notice they don't waste time by worrying that a bunch of prates have downloaded their game since the vast majority of those people wouldn't have come up with the cash to buy it anyway. Instead they focus on serving the needs of their customers. When companies start getting it through their heads that one downloaded copy DOES NOT automatically mean a lost sale theyll be able to move on. For now they run to daddy government and attempt to have laws enacted to protect a dying business model. People like yourself get sucked into their propaganda that we are headed into a world where no one will want to create anything. The fact is, the net has enabled a far larger amount of artists to create and distribute than ever before for next to nothing.

after this year is out I think people are going to be kind of burned out on tactical shooters for awhile.

Homefront, Battlefield 3, the free BF2 online game, Crysis 2, another CoD no doubt, perhaps another Modern Warfare title from the renewed Infinity Ward team and more than likely a few other titles I'm forgetting at the moment.

They are now heading into the same plan of action with the CoD IP that killed Guitar Hero. They're over-saturating the market to the point where people won't be able to tell (or care about) one title from the next. All that matters is that next fiscal quarter. At that point some brilliant shitdick from Wall street will announce that video game sales have peaked and are on a downward trend.
