The most interesting thing is that GTA V won as Game of the Year, considering that voting began in June, ended in mid October, and GTA V was released in mid September. I don't think that would be possible without tons of people voting for GTA V as Game of the Year without even playing it.

It gets even more interesting if you think that a considerable part of GTA V - GTA Online - only went live on October 1st, and had significant issues for the following two weeks.

1. GTA fanbois are rabid.

2. GTA sold more games in three days than any other game did the rest of the year.

3. Games released during the voting period are at an advantage since they're prominent in people's minds. The studios know this as well, and release films they think will win Oscars in December.
