Wow, a three fold increase? That's a lot. I always thought that obesity-related deaths were too low, but three times too low? That's depressing. We need a better approach to handling this. There's a whole bunch we can be doing to encourage people to eat better and exercise more.

Poverty is the major factor involved in this. So that won't be changing in the US anytime soon, and will likely get worse.

It's not as simple as that. It's a complex issue. And you reducing it to a simple snide statement only reflects your simple thinking on the matter.
