I think Valve hang on to the sorts of people who wished high school or college never ended. Where you sit around dreaming up ideas but never actually executing any of them to completion.

As a game company Valve are dead. I do not count IPs they simply maintain as being much of a contribution to gaming.

L4D, Portal, Counterstrike. They've been developing mods for past 10 or so years. Actual games? Where?

Those are actual games, not just mods. Valve is a weird mix of a publisher, incubator and developer but to discount their work so out of hand is wrong to me.

They were a top tier developer. Now they're releasing MP source mods. At least ID attempted Rage. Valve have taken over the development of mods with long shelf lives and are milking them. They're no longer pushing the boundaries of FPS development.

I'm just disappointed.
